'ELABORATE ENTRANCE OF CHAD DEITY' TO BE STAGED IN MILWAUKEE & FT. WORTH THIS FALL, LATEST WRESTLING BOOK NEWS

By Mike Johnson on 2024-08-19 11:15:00

The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity will be staged in Milwaukee next month into October and in Fort Worth, Texas this October.  The play, which was nominated for a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, was first produced in Chicago in 2009 and had runs Off-Broadway and in a number of other markets.  The production features a wrestling ring onstage as well as Titan-tron like screens for ring entrance videos, but is more focused on the backstage aspects of the business. A number of names that will be familiar to hardcore fans are name-dropped in the dialogue but one doesn't need to be a wrestling fan to understand or appreciate the drama of the story.  If you get the chance, I absolutely suggest seeing the show.

Jeanne Basone aka Hollywood in the original GLOW is close to completing her memoir.

A Wrestling Legends Alphabet book for kids has been announced for a 4/22/25 publication.  Promotional material for the book notes: "From Aja Kong to Ric Flair, Jushin Liger to The Rock, Wrestling Legends Alphabet introduces children to the world of professional wrestling. Illustrating the colorful characters who revolutionized sports entertainment, this book is sure to get over with fans of all ages."

Seth Turner of the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame has preserved and released the original scrapbook of Ad Santel, who wrestled from the 1910-1930s via Kindle with proceeds benefitting the HOF and Museum in Albany, NY.

Promotional material notes:

Original Scrapbook of World Champion Wrestler Ad Santel (circa 1910-1930).

Adolf "Ad" Santel, the German-American professional wrestler, left an indelible mark on the lineage of Catch wrestling, Judo, and modern mixed martial arts (MMA). His groundbreaking encounters and innovative approach to martial arts challenged established norms and paved the way for the evolution of these disciplines. Santel’s significance to the world of wrestling, his encounters with notable figures such as Tokugoro Ito and Taro Miyake, and his impact on the development of martial arts in Japan and beyond cannot be overstated.

Santel is recognized as one of the greatest practitioners of Catch wrestling. His professional wrestling career spanned the 1910s, ’20s, and ’30s, during which he faced some of the top wrestlers of the time, including Joe Stecher, John Pesek, and Clarence Eklund. Santel’s exceptional skills and tenacity led him to become the World Light Heavyweight Champion, solidifying his reputation as a formidable competitor.

Thanks to Ad's grandson, David, and his wife, Gennyfer, the original scrapbook of Ad Santel has been preserved. Proceeds from sales of this publication will be used to support the International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.

A new book on the history of professional wrestling in and around Windsor, Ontario, Canada has been officially released and is now shipping

Promotional material for the 738-page Killers, Butchers, Cry-Babys & Canadian Destroyers: The History of Pro Wrestling in Windsor, Ontario, Canada by Jamie Scott Greer notes:

Professional wrestling has a long and storied history that goes back over 100 years. Since it's rise into the spectacle it has become today, there have been metropolitan centres that have helped define pro wrestling's success, like New York City, Chicago, Toronto, Los Angeles, Montreal, and many more.

Across from Detroit, Michigan, lies the Canadian city of Windsor, Ontario. Too isolated in Ontario to feel truly Canadian, but not quite American enough, Windsor has had a unique place in the history of professional wrestling, as one of Ontario's first pro wrestling cities that has become a symbiotic partner in the history of Detroit's own wrestling story, as well as being the hometown for such icons in the business as WWE Hall of Famers Walter "Killer" Kowalski and Abdullah the Butcher, legends of the territory days like Art Neilson and Stan Holek (Stan Lisowski/Stan Neilson), the launching point for wrestling careers for the likes of Sandy Parker (first African-descent woman to win a World Championship) and Cowboy Frankie Laine, the home base for George Cannon's Superstars of Wrestling, as well as Scott D'Amore of TNA Wrestling and his own independent, Border City Wrestling. And find out the true origin of the finishing move, The Canadian Destroyer!

Discover the impact that Windsor, Ontario has had on the world of professional wrestling over the past one hundred years in the exciting story of "Killers, Butchers, Cry-Babys & Canadian Destroyers", the history of professional wrestling in Windsor, Ontario, Canada!
