I will admit from the jump that I know very little about the television industry, but has AEW lucked into working with the only television station that genuinely needs them? AEW seems to be bleeding viewers quickly, but WBD seems to be in worse shape than AEW. Is AEW’s potential renewal actually more about how much WBD needs something on their network than it is AEW’s success or lack thereof?
It’s funny, in my view WBD is run every bit as badly as AEW is. Both have talented people working there but the men calling the shots continue to make error after error after error. Here’s the thing with WBD, they are in such bad shape financially and overall that maybe they need AEW or maybe they just accept their fate and give Tony a take it or leave it offer. Tony has been able to negotiate with anyone for almost three weeks now and we haven’t heard anything about a new deal. I am not even going to guess at what will happen going forward. I just hope that they get a good new TV deal. That’s what’s best for the industry.
Do you guys think that we've reached the point (or at least are getting close to the point) in the TNA/NXT crossover that someone from the other brand is going to need to (or at least should) win something of consequence from the other? I feel like we're past the shock and awe of just surprise appearances at this point. Because we've seen them come in and participate ... but does anyone really logically think that someone's winning a title match? Sure it should be a special story to get there, but it would at least shake things up. And it doesn't need to be one of the big titles. Someone coming to take the Heritage Cup. Or someone from NXT winning the Internet Championship. I would think they'd want something to goose some numbers for the move to the CW, so maybe around that time?
I totally get what you are saying from a viewer standpoint but I look at it from a business standpoint. In this relationship, WWE has the power. They don’t need TNA so they don’t have to give any more than they choose to give. In TNA’s case, they have to be careful not to look inferior to NXT. So right now, unless there is something more to the relationship that I don’t know, I don’t think they need to do anything like that. If they did, great, but I don’t think it’s needed.
This drama over Britt Baker getting suspended over MJF and Alicia Atout has me asking one question. How is this all CM Punk’s fault?
Pop! Yeah, the "CM Punk is the problem" BS that shills "reported" sure hasn't aged well. Some people sold out their credibility for a bag of peanuts.
Saw your Bloodline v. NwO answer, and agree 100%. But let’s go down the rabbit hole of “what ifs?” We live on Earth #10005 (gratuitous Deadpool reference) and VKM is still in charge… is it still as good? At this point, does it even exist? Is (the I had no idea how awesome he is) Jacob Fatu the Son of a Plumber Apprentice? Thank goodness for HHH, but what if?
As good? Probably not because Vince would have interjected at times. With that said, The Bloodline started on his watch, once Roman Reigns got some control over what he was doing and went to work with Paul Heyman. So I think it would have been good, for sure, but the Vince factor would have taken some of the shine off for sure, because that’s what he did with everything pal!
While watching Roman Reigns get a massive pop at SS, I thought back to the Rumble he won years ago and was booed out of the building. It made me realize once again how great WWE has been recently at building talent top to bottom. They took a guy the fans were not ready to accept and made him the top heel and then a top face. The fans have bought into all of it. Then you have AEW... Such a stark contrast. Tony can't honestly think he's on that level, can he?!
Tony has said before that he is the “challenger brand” so I think if he were being honest, he would admit that AEW is not on the level of WWE. The sad thing is that with someone competent running creative, it could be a lot closer to them. Just look at how much better WWE is post Vince. AEW doesn’t have to be mired in the bad booking muck, Tony chooses to keep it there.
