8/17 G1 CLIMAX SEMI-FINALS REPORT

8/17/24 Results from G1 Climax 34, the Finals are set - Ryogoku, Tokyo, Japan:

It is a packed house in Ryogoku.

1 - YOSHI-HASHI and Shoma Kato vs. Mikey Nichols and Robbie Eagles

Eagles pins Kato after a Turbo Backpack.

2 - Hirooki Goto and Tomoaki Honma vs. Gabe Kidd and Jake Lee

Lee pins Honma after a Face Break Shot.

3 - Shota Umino, El Phantasmo and Jado vs. Konosuke Takeshita, Jeff Cobb and Callum Newman

There was miscommunication between ELP and Jado.   Takeshita took the advantage and hit a Roaring Elbow.

Takeshita pins Jado.

Umino tried to play peacemaker between ELP and Jado after the match.

4 - Hiroshi Tanahashi, Boltin Oleg, Toru Yano, Tiger Mask and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Ren Narita, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Yujiro Takahashi, SHO and EVIL 

EVIL pins Yano after hitting Everything is Evil.

House of Torture beats down everyone in the ring.  Shota Umino and El Phantasmo make the save.     EVIL asks ELP if he can trust Tanahashi and Umino.    EVIL smiles as ELP looks confused.

House of Torture with this win are in line for a shot at the NEVER Openweight 6-man Championship.

5 - DOUKI, Taichi and TAKA Michinoku vs. Taiji Ishimori, Drilla Moloney and Clark Conners

Ishimori forces TAKA to tap out to the Bone Lock.

6 - Tetsuya Naito, Hiromu Takahashi and BUSHI vs. Great O-Khan, Francesco Akira and HENARE 

HENARE taps out BUSHI to Ultima.

O-Khan trapped a leg submission on Naito and refused to let go after the match was done.    Hiromu had words with HENARE.

Great O-Khan could be the next challenger for the World Title.  Hiromu Takahashi has expressed interest in challenging for the NEVER Openweight Title.

Semi-final matches for G1 Climax 34:

7 - David Finlay vs. Yota Tsuji 

Good match.  They battled all over the ring.   Finlay set up two tables and they kept teasing putting each other through them.   They traded their signature moves.  Finlay powerbombed Tsuji through the table.   Finlay jumped back in the ring.  Tsuji just beat the count.  Finlay hit Into Oblivion.  Tsuji kicks out.  

Finlay hit a Buckle Bomb and a powerbomb.  Tsuji kicks out.  Finlay hit another Buckle Bomb.    Tsuji hit a Gene Blaster.  Finlay kicks out.  Tsuji hits a curb stomp and a Malo Crash.   Finlay kicks out.   Finlay counters a Gene Blaster with a small package.  Finlay tries for Overkill but Tsuji blocks it.   Tsuji hits a headbutt and a Deadbolt suplex.   Tsuji hits a Gene Blaster.

Tsuji pins Finlay.

Yota Tsuji wins the B Block and advances to the Finals of G1 Climax.

8 - Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Shingo Takagi

ZSJ attacks the right arm of Takagi.  Takagi counters by targeting ZSJ’s neck.    ZSJ switched by going for a leg submission.   Takagi tried for his own abdominal submissions.   ZSJ gets to ropes.   Takagi hits Made in Japan.  But his leg is too hurt for him to make the cover.  ZSJ escapes Last of the Dragon.  They exchange near falls.  ZSJ hits a Zack Driver.  But now ZSJ is too hurt to make the cover.   

Takagi goes for a Cobra Twist pin, but ZSJ grabs his leg and goes for leg submissions.   Takagi grabs the ropes.    ZSJ grabs him in a Cobra Twist.   Takagi escapes and hits a Pumping Bomber.   ZSJ grabs him in a triangle choke but Takagi escapes and hits Last of the Dragon.   Two count.

They exchange strikes.  ZSJ hits a Zack Driver.   Takagi kicks out and ZSJ traps him in an ankle submission.

Takagi taps out.

Zack Sabre Jr. wins the A Block and advances to the Finals of the G1 Climax.

Please watch this main event.   Just awesome.

Zack Sabre Jr.  bows deeply to Shingo Takagi, thanking him for the match.   Yota Tsuji comes to the ring.  They shake hands before their big match tomorrow night.   

Zack climbs into the crowd with the mic.  He tells them that he will see them tomorrow.

In the interview area, Zack says everyone is concerned about who isn’t in New Japan now.  They made a mistake in forgetting about the one man who is here.  It isn’t the Year of the Dragon.   It is the Year of the Sabre.

It is Zack Sabre Jr.’s time.  He made the commitment to New Japan, moving there, learning the language and doing everything he was asked.  He deserves this.
