AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2024-08-16 23:42:00

It is Friday and AEW Rampage was recorded after Dynamite on Wednesday at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, VA. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Matt Menard.

The Butcher and the Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum) w/Erica Lee vs The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Tomohiro Ishii, and Orange Cassidy)

Kyle O’Reilly joins commentary

We start with Butcher and Briscoe and Briscoe throws a series of chops and then hits a running forearm. Truth tags in, and Briscoe gets in a big kick. Turbo is then tagged and Briscoe lays in strikes on both of them. Turbo gets a waistlock and Briscoe goes to his corner, tagging in Ishii and chops Briscoe free.

Ishii and Briscoe set for a double hip toss, and when Truth charges them, they give him a back body drop then hit the hip toss on Turbo. Cassidy and Butcher get in the ring, and Briscoe and Ishii charge into him. Ishii stays in the ring to work over Turbo. Turbo chops Ishii, who chops him back over and over until Briscoe is tagged in. Briscoe gets a Russian leg sweep for two.

Briscoe hammers on Turbo’s back. Turbo gets a knee and stretches for the tag to Truth. Briscoe tries to fight them both off, but Butcher pulls him out of the ring and works him over on the floor as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Briscoe has been kept in the ring with quick tags. Briscoe reverses a suplex from Turbo and is able to tag in Ishii. Ishii runs through everyone on the other team. Ishii tags in Cassidy who tags in Briscoe. Cassidy gets a dive onto everyone on the floor and tosses Briscoe a chair. Briscoe sets it up to use as a launchpad, but Butcher cuts him off and sets up for a power bomb.

Briscoe escapes and Cassidy sits down in the chair in the ring to watch. As Butcher looks at Cassidy, confused, Briscoe nails him with a strike and Cassidy follows up with an Orange Punch. Briscoe is now able to use the chair to leap onto the Outrunners on the floor. Ishii hits a clothesline on Truth. Briscoe hits a Jay Driller for the pin and the win.

Winners: The Conglomeration

After the Conglomeration leaves, Nyla Rose comes to the ring for her match with Erica Lee without a break.

Nyla Rose vs Erica Lee

Erica looks confused as we are told she thought their match would be later.

The Outrunners shove her toward Nyla, and she tries to calm Nyla down. It does not work. Nyla hits a power slam and a senton. Turbo Floyd is on the apron, yelling at Nyla. Nyla intimidates him to the floor. Lee gets a drop-kick on Nyla in the corner, and Nyla counters with a leaping cross body. Nyla hits a Beast Bomb for the pin and the win.

Winner: Nyla Rose

Saraya and Harley Cameron come to the ring. We are told tomorrow is Saraya’s birthday, her 22nd Birthday. And NO ONE has wished her a happy birthday. Harley has something for her and starts to sing, and Saraya shuts her up and says she is not in the mood. Saraya recaps her last years, from winning with AEW Women’s championship at All In, to not getting a rematch, losing her friends, and then is omitted from pay per views and shows.

She is interrupted by Toni Storm. She says she is about to face Mariah May, but she will never forget everything they have gone through together, and how Saraya has become…well, a pasty pile of something we can’t repeat here. She then gives her a match on Dynamite, and if she wins, she can have it all.

Saraya calls her names and says she will beat Storm.

We get a video promo from The Acclaimed to hype the match with FTR tomorrow night.

Nick Wayne w/Mother Wayne and Killswitch vs Kip Sabian

They lock up collar and elbow, and as Kip forces them into the corner, Nick pulls his hair, reverses the momentum and slaps Kip. Nick goes to the floor to stall. Nick returns to the ring and kicks Kip when he goes to lock up. They trade side headlocks and Kip is shot into the ropes, and comes off with a shoulder tackle. Kip runs the ropes, stoops short when Nick leaps, and Kip slaps him. Kip hits a gut buster for two.

Kip lays in chops in the corners. Nick is able to get a mule kick on Kip, and then gets a big right hand. Nick charges into the corner, and Kip gets a banderas and follows with an insigiri and Nick goes to the floor. Kip gets a springboard moonsault from the top rope to Nick on the floor. Mother Wayne distracts Kip so that Nick can pull Kip into the ring post and starts working him over as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Nick has been working Kip’s shoulder through the break. Nick is stomping and kicking Kip in the corner and then taunts him. Nick charges and Kip gets a foot up and gets a springboard dropkick from the top rope. Kip hits a cannonball in the corner for two. Kip tries to set up for a brain buster, but Nick reverses it and they trade strikes.

Kip takes over with blows, and Nick tries for a dragon suplex, but Kip elbows out of it and they trade strikes back and forth. Nick gets a dragon suplex. Kip is able to get a half-and-half suplex in reply. Nick hits the Wayne’s World and hits a double underhook DDT for two. Kip blocks a second Wayne’s World and as Mother Wayne distracts the ref, Killswitch hits a headbutt on Kip. Nick then hits another Wayne’s World for the pin and the win.

Winner: Nick Wayne

We then see Scropio Sky trying to get into Private Party’s private party. He is not on the list, but they come out to let him in after he complains at the bouncer, who won’t budge until Private Party let Sky in.

Kyle Fletcher and Rush vs The Already In The Ring Rhett Titus and Kevin Matthews

Rush wins this squash with the Bull Horns on Rhett Titus.

Winners: Kyle Fletcher and Rush

This match is so short, they don’t bother to have Don Callis on commentary.

After the match, Don Callis cuts in promo and says the violence turns him on. Rush says that after what he did to Preston Vance, he showed how he really is. Now Don Callis has to show him something big.

Kyle apologizes to Don for not following instructions. Don says he doesn't have to apologize because he's family.

Lio Rush joins commentary.

Top Flight (Darius and Dante Martin) w/Leila Grey, and Action Andretti vs MxM Collection (Mansoor and Mason Madden)

MxM Collection gets a much bigger pop than I would have thought. Top Flight has new “airline uniform” inspired gear.

Mansoor and Dante start out and move quickly to arm bars. Dante gets an arm drag, and Mansoor gets a shoulder tackle and poses. Mansoor gets a scoop slam and a series of elbow drops. Dante sweeps the leg of Mansoor when running the ropes and poses. Mansoor gets upset and Dante gets a series of arm drags, holding onto the last one.

Darius tags in, he leapfrogs Dante and drops onto the arm. Mason tags in and is a head taller than Darius. Darius gets a drop-down waistlock, Mason grabs him and tosses him to the corner. They run the ropes and Mason hits a cross chop on the windpipe. Mason then lays in a big chop in the corner and hits a leg drop they call The Final Cut.

Mansoor is tagged in, MxM double team Darius and then pose before covering for one. Darius gets a leaping drop-kick and then tags in Dante. Top Flight work over Mansoor with quick tags and leaping attacks in their corner. Mason tries to come in and goes to the floor when Darius pulls down the top rope. Dante then hits a leaping kick onto Mansoor on the apron so that MxM is on the floor.

Top Flight gets a double dive, with Leila sitting on the apron doing the “go ahead” sign given to planes at the airport.  Looks like they are going to go all in on the Airline gimmick. And we head to picture in picture.

When they return to full screen, Darius has been the babyface in peril through the break. Almost makes you think the big dive didn’t do much to help Top Flight. They do a comedy bit where Leila and Mason do a pose down with Mansoor is distracted back and for the between the two. As he goes back and forth looking at the two, Darius gets a superkick which leads to the hot tag.

Dante gets in his high-flying stuff on MxM as he cleans house. Mason gets in the ring when Dante has Mansoor in an airplane sprint. Darius gets in the ring and Dante is put on his shoulders by Mason. Dante slaps Mason and then puts Mason in a Fireman's carry. Mason escapes, tries a double chokeslam, but Top Flight work together to airplane spin Mason. They hit a double drop-kick.

Mansoor tries to attack both and Darius launches off of Dante for the DDT Dante cover for two, broken up by Mason. Darius lays in blows on Mason, who hits him with a Boss Man slam. Mason runs into a big boot in the corner. Dante gets on Mansoor’s shoulders and Mason grabs him for a chokeslam. Mansoor holds on from a bridge pin for two.

MxM sets for a double team finish, but Dante kicks out. Darius pulls Mansoor to the floor, and Dante gets a leaping knee. Darius gets a bulldog in the ropes and they ping pong Mason between them ending with a DDT. Mansoor takes a knee strike and tries a backslide on Darius for two. Darius gets a rolling brain buster. Dante tags in and hits a flying cross body for the pin and the win.

Winners: Top Flight

Lio Rush adds next to nothing to commentary, which is odd since he’s a great talker.
