Spotlight Match: DJ Powers vs Wildhound Johnny Rivera

THE WILD HOUND IS BACK IN THE RING! DJ is notably without his Bakabella family entourage. Was he abandoned at the fire station or something? Johnny looking strong to start. Good fallaway slam. He goes for a splash but tweaks his knee…Powers goes RIGHT for it. DJ staying on him. Johnny with a dodge and Powers eats the post on a body splash. He hits the rebound splash! Kick out! Johnny’s knee gives out again. Chop block! Claymore! Powers gets the win and demands the crowd stop booing him. No.

Match 1: Channing Thomas & Teddy Goodz (w/ Sidney Bakabella & DJ Powers) vs The Shooter Boys (Anthony Vecchio & Aaron Ortiz)

The Shooter Boys earned a spot on the main card tonight after a fantastic spotlight match last week. Teddy looks to start it but Channing blinds tags in and Goodz slinks out of the ring. Channing is having a rough time, Teddy has his arm out for the tag but Channing just stays in. Double flapjack on Channing but he finally traps Vecchio and tags Teddy. Goodz with a HUGE wince-inducing chop. Channing tags right back in, like he has something to prove. Teddy back in and Bakabella is screaming for him to take liberties and “breaks his ankles!”. Good reversal sequences Vecchio nails Goodz but gets popped into a backbreaker. Tag to Ortiz! Big slams all around! Channing and Goodz get into a squabble…Bakabella on the apron…Vecchio shoves them all. Roll up on Channing and he gets the win?!? 

 

Bakabella is furious. “What the hell was even THAT???” He accuses Goodz of not caring. He blames the loss on Goodz. He says that he has a week to make it right or he will “be the first to the hospital to slap his newborn kid”. Teddy is reacting to that as DJ Power blindsides Teddy with a socket wrench. Channing walk away in disgust. Bakabella says “out with the old, in with the new”. Powers goes for another shot but Channing makes the save?!? Why are we cheering for Channing?!? Bakabella says next week it’s him vs Powers and if Teddy loses, he’s OUT at Wrestling Open. WHAT IN THE HELL IS HAPPENING???

 

Match 2: CPA vs JGeorge

The grudge match is ON! Wait…JGeorge has a cane? He says he can’t do 50% tonight….because CPA TOOK HIS SMILE!!!! Llllloooooollllll. And with that CPA is ambushed by Patrick Saint. Huge powerbomb! Jgeorge says this absolutely is not over and leaves CPA on the mat. This was never a match so I’ll revert the count. 

Match 2 (for real this time): Stetson Ranch (Steven Stetson & Hammer Tunis) vs Jermaine Marbury & Dezmond Cole (w/ Benny the Basketball) 

Marbury and Boofa go right into the fight. No one wants the ranch here. The cowboys are having a ROUGH RIDE until Tunis pulls Stetson out of harms way. Hard chops from

stetson. Boofa getting all double teams done on him. Finally a cutter and stunner drops the ranch and Marbury tags in! Big splash and stetson almost eats the pin. Tunis smashes his hand. This comes into play moment later when Marbury throws a punch, winces and Stetson hits the north jersey lariat for the win. Booooooo.

Match 3: The Residency (RJ Rude & Rex Lawless) vs The Prodigal Sons (Sammy Diaz & Lucas Chase)

Rude says he’s number ones but the sons are treating him like number two. Rex in with Chase and he fares similarly. Rex catches Sammy on a placha and snake eyes him on the apron. Sammy fighting from underneath and survives the bad offense of Lawless. Tag to Lucas! It barely lasts as he’s blindsided. Huge splash off Rex’s shoulders…Chase kicks out! Rude gets run into Rex. Sammy holds the feet of Rex as Chase hits a Rikishi driver for the win! The Residency is SHOCKED!

 Match 4: TJ Crawford vs Tyree Taylor

Taylor is without Ichiban or Brother Great at his side. TJ is nominally alone out here but Brad Hollister IS on commentary. This is a delight. TJ gets into an argument with a granny at ringside and she punks him out! Tyree with a huge dropkick and tosses TJ across the ring. TJ tries to crawl under the ring to escape the angry big man…but Tyree is waiting for him to emerge. Finally TJ trips up Tyree. Big man gets posted. Boot wash and a stomp out. He tries a slingshot but Tyree him a cutter into the top rope! Uranage for two! Hard kicks from TJ! Tyree with corner spear! TJ dodges a superplex…burning hammer! JEEEEESUS! Top rope elbow! Tyree kicks out! Tyree with a pounce! TJ escapes the Brooklyn zoo bomb.Hard chops back and forth! Both men are exhausted. TJ hits the silver bullet! Tyree hits a hard headbutt. They both collapse but TJ’s head lands on Tyree and gets the three. This was so good. Brad Hollister in the ring to celebrate but TJ is a sandbag. The prodigal sons hit the ring to help Tyree and he almost attacks them as he comes to. What a match.

Pedro Dones is out here. He’s VERY mad at Gal for trying to cost him his livelihood. But he acknowledges that Gal has been beating him up for two months. He’s not sure of his chances of actually beating Gal by himself…but WE can beat him. So Pedro is calling his shot. He’s coming for BLOOD. 

Main Event: $10,000 Women’s Rumble (Spike, Hyena Hera, Katrina Creed, Ashley Vox, Kristara, Paris Van Dale, LMK, JC Storm, Davienne & A MYSTERY PARTICPANT)

It’s Royal Rumble rules tonight.

#1 Hyena Hera

#2 Ashley Vox

Hera cuts a promo and says Worcester wrong so we hate her. Bell rings and Hera slips out of the ring. Ashley gives chase and tosses her right back in. Discus lariat! Hera with a reversal and tosses Vox over the top??? She’s out.

#3 Katrina Creed

Creed has some attitude and goes right at Hera. They stomp each others foot! They try shoulder blocks. They are both heels so they both pull each others hair. 

#4 Kristara 

Kristar is “the sweetest pea” and the heels wants to make her a victim. Not so much. The ly get mad at each other for not helping eliminate Kristara…and brawl! Kick into a ddt combo! Kristara is owning the ring right now! 

#5 Davienne

Davy in and UNLOADING THE CLIP on everyone. The fight evens out as we get to the next entrant.

#6 Paris Van Dale

Can Davy trust Paris? They double eliminate Creed…so maybe? They team with Kristara to try and get Hera out of there but she fights them off. Paris and Davy turn their attention to Kristara…

#7 LMK

LMK with a ddt/facebuster combo! Scissor kick to Hera! Clothesline to Kristara! Running stomps to everyone! LMK is here to bring the $10k home to her papa bear! Davienne with a scoop slam on Kathleen! 

#8 JC Storm

Corkscrew splash off the top to Davienne! Spear to Paris! Spear to LMK and Hera! Kristara going in but eats a boot! Heads scissor takeover sends Kristara to the floor! JC Storm making an impact! 

#9 Spike

Spike with the clothesline to LmK! Spike is taking everyone out! Crowd is behind her! Airplane spin on LMK drops everyone. Davienne is smashed into Oaris who flies off the apron to the floor. The fight breaks into little groups as we await the mystery opponent.

#10 GABBY FORZA

GNOMIE IS HERE!!! Hera tosses out Davienne in the chaos. She blindsides Gnomie on the floor! Spike catches Hera with a Michanoku driver! JC with a spike facebuster! LMK tosses JC! Spike with a KO punch to Kathleen! Hera with a gory bomb into the buckles! Spike tossed. Hera may be new but she is OWNING this rumble. LMK hits the floor but she went out the second rope…she’s hiding on the floor as Gnomie comes back and destroys Hyena Hera. Big slams. Big suplex and Hera hits the floor! LMK tries to toss Gabby but she doesn’t hit the floor! Gabby with an AA to the apron and Kathleen goes out. GABBY FORZA WINS!!!!!

Tonight’s show was quite good. Open picking up a new sponsor really allowed them to let a large pool of female talent shine tonight in the main event! On the whole, you know I’m kinda biased towards liking this show but I will say, after a few months of stuffed cards, it’s been really nice to get back to having a few weeks of TIGHT HOT SUB-2 HOUR SHOWS. Granted, I’m old now but I feel like they are keeping this crowd (which is definitely packing in week after week) energized just right at this pace.
