It is Wednesday and Dynamite is in the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, VA.
Our commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.
Mercedes Mone (TBS Champion) w/Kamille vs Hikaru Shida
We start off with this match and no intro music or anything else. The story of the start of the match is that Mone is surprised by how good Shida is, and is working hard to avoid being pinned by Shida. Mone does a good job of showing frustration when her big moves don’t win the match early on and how Shidea is able to counter her work. As the match goes on, Shida puts in a typically great match and Mone is able to use her facials to put over the story that she’s shocked at how good Shida is.
For the end of the match, Mone is pulled out of the ring by Kamille to save her from Shida’s katana kick. Shida goes after Kamille with the Kendo stick, and Mone grabs it from her. The ref confronts Mone about the Kendo stick and Kamille takes out Shida and rolls her into the ring for Mone to pin her for the pin.
Winner: Mercedes Mone
Britt Baker’s music hits, and Kamille sees someone in the front row in a Sting mask, pulls them into the ringside area and starts a beat down. This allows Baker to come out of the crowd and attack Mone from behind. Mone is able to escape as we keep the build going for their match at All In.
We then get footage of Adam Page attacking Jeff Jarrett last week.
Renee Paquette is with Jay Lethal, who is facing Adam Page next week. Jarrett, Sonjay Dutt and Karen Jarrett are there as well, and Page attacks Jarrett and Lethal. Lethal and Page fight from the back to the ring.
Jay Lethal vs Adam Page
The bell rings and Lethal hits five running spears from the ring into Page on the floor. They brawl around the ring, with Page getting a Deadeye, and then he tosses Lethal into the timekeeper’s area. They go to picture in picture where Page takes over and Lethal has not been able to get any offense. The crowd is cheering for Page as well as Lethal, and because this is his home area, it’s the first time I have heard cheering for Page in a long time.
Lethal starts to fight back, getting two counts on Page before they start going to submission attempts. Page finally gets the Buckshot Lariat for the pin and the win.
Winner: Adam Page
We then get footage of MJF winning a match at British Promotion Revolution Pro, and Will Ospreay stopping him from a post match beatdown.
We then get a video package for MJF vs Opsreay at All In.
We then get a promo from Pac, who asks who is the number one contender for the American Championship. He says it’s him, but Ospreay went behind his back to get the match at All In. He says he’s sick of being treated poorly, but he will meet the winner at the All Out PPV two weeks later.
We then get a promo from Darby Allin where he talks about how Jack Perry was hired for being a friend to the Young Bucks. He says Perry doesn’t respect AEW and if he was fired, no one would miss him.
LOTS of promos and such and this almost feels like the go home show for All In instead of it being next Wednesday.
Darby Allin comes out for a match and Jack Perry attacks him and drags him back through the tunnel to the backstage area. They brawl backstage. Perry traps him under a door and sets to run a equipment case into him, but security stops him. Perry demands a coffin match.
We then get a video promo from Mariah May for her match with Toni Storm who has a decent line: Your biggest mistake was being alive at the same time as me.
Renee is with Mira Shirakawa, who says she has not talked to Mariah and Toni Storm. She talks about how they have changed since she was with them both and hopes no one gets hurt.
Orange Cassidy vs Kyle O’Reilly vs Roderick Strong
This is for the #1 spot in the Casino Gauntlet Match Royal at All In.
We are an hour into the show and this is the third match, LOTS of promos and angles on tonight’s show. Probably a good idea to get Cassidy in the ring to keep the crowd from feeling ignored. Some of Roddy's moves look brutal to Cassidy, not just the pop up backbreaker, but also then slamming Cassidy onto Kyle’s back.
Strong tries to get a Boston Crab on both Cassidy and Kyle at the same time. Mike Bennett and Matt Taven show to interfere, which brings out Tomohorio Ishii and Mark Briscoe. They brawl to the back and we get back to the match. After the second commercial break, the match gets more intense with all three men working in the ring. None of the “one man is knocked out of the ring so the other two can fight” that we usually get.
In the end, Kyle goes for the jugi gitame on Strong, and Cassidy grabs him for the rollup, the pin and the win.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
Cool match which keeps up the heat between Roderick Strong, Cassidy and Kyle, adding a slight twist.
Renee is with Claudio Castagnoli and Kazuchika Oaka to talk about their match next week at Dynamite for the Continental Championship. Claudio gives a standard babyface promo. OKada says he wishes Claudio good luck, bitch. Okada leaves and Claudio says he doesn’t want this bootleg version of Okada, and wants the Rainmaker.
Renee is next with the Patriarchy, and Christian Cage says that he called the match on Collision right down the middle and now a new team has to step up. Cage dismisses Renee and says he won’t be in Norfolk because they don’t deserve him.
Tony Schiavone is in the ring and he calls Hook out for an interview. Hook says he still can't’ see out of the eye Jericho attacked. He then calls out Jericho tonight.
Jericho comes out with Large William and Bryan Keith. Jericho says they won’t fight tonight, but they will fight at All In, and next week, he will face Large Wiliam. William says he will beat Hook and shove him up Taz’s….um…behind. Hook says after All In, Jericho will never ever be the same again.
The Young Bucks (Nicholas and Matthew Jackson) AEW Tag Team Champions vs The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens)
First time the Bucks have defended the titles in four months, so of course, they are attacked from behind by Max Caster and Anthony Bowens.
The Bucks are able to regroup and they fight to the ring where the bell rings. As the match gets going, Billy Gunn comes to ringside. When we come back, Matt is trapped on the floor in the Acclaimed’s corner. He is able to escape and then throws a chair at Gunn. Gunn grabs it and goes to threaten him with it. The ref sees him and Gunn Is Outta Here.
The Bucks do not do a lot of the big, high flying moves, and in their work as heels, slow the match down and spend their time cutting off the Acclaimed. Caster gets to be the babyface in peril as the Bucks work him over with quick tags. When Bowens gets the tag he starts to run wild but is stopped with a superkick. Bowen is then the babyface in peril through the second break. They drag out the hot tag for quite a while before Caster gets in to run wild.
There are 15 minutes left in the show and we are told we have had our last commercial break, and there’s still a main event match.
We start getting lots of big moves until a ref bump, and as soon as the ref is down, we get a low blow on Caster, the belts are brought in the ring. FTR comes to ringside to stop them. Matt spits in Cash’s face, and the ref is up as soon as Cash attacks Matt.
Winners via DQ and still Tag Team Champions: The Young Bucks
The Acclaimed have words with FTR and security comes out from the back to keep them apart as Billy Gunn comes to the win. In the back Christopher Daniels is with Renee. He says because of how the match ended, on Collision, FTR will face The Acclaimed, and the winner gets a tag team title match at All In.
We then get a tribute video for Bryan Danielson’s career, which ends if he loses at All in against Swerve Strickland for the AEW World title.
Bryan Danielson is at ringside and they sure are making it seem like his match at All In is his last match.
Swerve Strickland (AEW World Champion) vs Wheeler Yuta.
This match is starting at 4 minutes until the hour, so I fully expect shenanigans.
Swerve beats Yuta pillar to post, and when he is beating him on the floor, he brings him over to Bryan and calls him out saying that Yuta is an appetizer. They return to the ring and the beating continues. Yuta is able to finally escape from an attempted sharpshooter and get in stomps and a dive into Swerve on the floor. Yuta goes for a diving crossbody, but Swerve avoids it and gets the Labell lock on Yuta. Yuta is able to reverse it and Swerve escapes. Yuta gets the Hammer and Anvil elbows into the seat belt for two.
Swerve cuts Yuta off with a head butt followed by a pair of House Calls. Swerve hits a third House Call and then he stomps Yuta’s head in before the ground and pound. The ref calls the match as Yuta cannot defend himself.
Winner: Swerve Strickland
Bryan gets in the ring and Swerve leaves. Swerve says this match was an example of what he will do to him at Wembley in two weeks. He says that Bryan’s family will watch as he annihilates him, and shows Bryan’s daughter that he will cripple Bryan.
Swerve starts to leave, and Bryan goes to help Yuta. Swerve hits the ring and gives Bryan a House Call and then does Bryan’s “Yes” motions.
