If Tony Khan is going to allow people to take chair shots to the head, like Jack Perry did, shouldn't he have to take at least one of them so he knows what it actually feels like?
Should he have to? No, because he is not a wrestler so I can’t use the word “have”. But I totally agree with your point. He allows people to do really dangerous things in AEW, for his enjoyment. I think him taking a chair shot to the head might actually convey to him what he is allowing his wrestlers to do to themselves.
If you asked yourself five years ago, which would be the most surprising? Cody Rhodes being WWE Champion, CM Punk is back in WWE and in a high profile spot, Vince McMahon is completely irrelevant in the business, Stone Cold Steve Austin main evented a WrestleMania, The Rock main evented a WrestleMania, RAW moved to Netflix, WWE has seven PLEs located outside the US.
I would have to go with Punk being back. That is the one that I never saw coming five years ago.
Do you see Bron Breakker vs Jacob Fatu as a future WrestleMania match? The longer they are kept apart the more special it will be. Your thoughts?
Man, I hope so. They are two bad, bad men and very believable in what they do. I definitely want to see them go at it one day, whether it’s at Mania or somewhere else.
I watched the big main event on AEW and I was left with several questions. I doubt you'll be able to answer but hope springs eternal. First, if the Young Bucks can threaten to fire Hangman, beat up Christopher Daniels and give title matches to Darby, why do they even have to wrestle? If Tony can't check them in any way, can't they just strip everyone of their titles and just take them? Can't they just renege on Darby's title shot? Or fire him before the match? they seem to have no checks on their behavior so what's stopping them from just creating total chaos? (although one could argue they already have.)
Yep, they absolutely could. Let’s take it one further. At Comic Con Tony Khan was part of an embarrassing segment where he went into bizarre kayfabe mode and said he was sick of Mercedes Mone ducking Britt Baker and he made a match at All In. So he has power when he wants to, but not when he doesn’t? It makes no sense at all. Plus, Darby burned Perry before and LOST the match, so he tried it again. Then Matt Buck gives up to save his friend, which is a babyface move, but he’s a dirtbag heel. Tony Khan’s booking is nonsensical.
Second was the ending, Jack Perry was threatened with being burned alive and didn't back down an inch and one of the Jackson boys showed compassion and concern for his friend, not wanting to see him hurt and gave Darby a title match. Considering all that, how are they the heels here? Jack showed insane amounts of courage and the Young Bucks thought about saving his friend. Those are babyface qualities, not heel actions. If you watched the end of this match wouldn't you think the heel was the guy trying to kill the other guy in a horrible fashion and the defiant guy was the hero?
I didn’t read this question before I answered the above question. You nailed it. Mike Eps and I talked about it in-depth on Saturday’s FMB. Tony Khan is a worse booker than Vince McMahon and Vince Russo.
