ROH Episode 73 Review: The Pay Per View is Next Week!

Yes, we are one week away from Death Before Dishonor, and a week away before ROH is taken more seriously by TK and the rest of the ROH/AEW roster. Even though we are only a week out from the show, there are only three matches announced which is interesting, to say the least. So, with all that being said, let’s see how this week's ROH episode was!

Emergency MEM:

Athena starts by trashing the city they are in and says that she and Starkz are only out here to have interrupted TV time. Athena says that even though she was celebrating without her crutches last week she is still not cleared and it was just an adrenaline rush. Starkz says Red Velvet and Queen Aminata are spreading lies about Athena's injury. Starkz says Velvet has the numbers game on her, but Starkz won the ROH World Television Champion so she outsmarted everyone. Athena says that even though she is not 100% she is still better than the whole locker room even on one foot. She says this is her show and they will not bother Aminata or Velvet all night. They say Lexy Nair will ask the hard-hitting questions Velvet and Aminata next week so they can have their five minutes of fame.

Dalton Castle and The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum) vs The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent) and Lance Archer:

This match was a little too long, especially when there was no direction for The Righteous. The team of The Outrunners and Castle was entertaining as they were flexing to the tune of Castle’s entrance team which was great. Vincent called out the tag team champions, which makes no sense since the trio of them and The Righteous are undefeated, but who am I?

Winners: The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent) and Lance Archer

Red Velvet vs Maya World:

The commentary team did a great job playing into the fact that World is a star student at Athena’s wrestling school and saying this match was set up by Athena. Velvet gets the win in a squash match.

Winner: Red Velvet

Evil Uno vs Katsuyori Shibata:

Before the match, Evil Uno laid out an open challenge to anyone in the back because he wanted to prove himself and show he was one of the best in the ROH roster. This math was awkward. The match ended due to referee stoppage as Shibata and everyone involved looked confused.

Winner: Katsuyori Shibata

Cage of Agony (Brian Cage Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun) vs Austin Mulitalo, Cappuccino Jones, and Carson Hutcheson):

Our second squash of the night. Sigh.

Winners: Cage of Agony (Brian Cage Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun)

Shane Taylor Promo:

Taylor cuts a promo as he talks about how he and his family survived the storms last week in Houston. He says that AEW and ROH did not call to check if they were okay, but if it was anybody else they would have called. He calls out Mark Briscoe and says that one day he will stop ducking him and they will finally face off one on one and Taylor will win.

Queen Aminata vs Mackenzie Morgan:

Three squashes galore!

Winner: Queen Aminata

Lights Out: Diamante vs Leyla Hirsch:

I would have personally saved this for the pay-per-view next week to give this match more build. Lights Out matches, especially for the women are always meant to be a big deal, and this was not built up to be that way. Both women went into the crowd and used plenty of weapons, but to me, this fell flat. There was no spark or anything special that came out of this match. Hirsch hit a moonsault that put Diamante through a table which led to Diamante’s ear getting busted open. Diamante gets the win by hitting the code red through a table.

Winner: Diamante

Overall:

One of the things I hate is when they use different tapings and put them together to make an episode because trust me we can tell the difference in crowd size and energy. For this being the second to last go-home show, this episode was horrible. Only one of our champions appeared and we did not get any new matches announced. The only storyline-building segment we had on the entire episode for the pay-per-view was the MIT segment that opened up the show. Let’s hope the go-home show next week is better.
