SPOILERS: WHY SAMOA JOE WAS WRITTEN OFF AEW TELEVISION

By Mike Johnson on 2024-07-10 22:40:00

Former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe was written out of tonight's episode of Dynamite after literally being driven through a wall by Chris Jericho during their Canadian Stampede Street fight.

Joe was likely written out as he will be returning for the second season of Peacock series Twisted Metal, which will begin shooting in Toronto later this month. PWInsider is told by numerous sources in the entertainment realm that the series is scheduled to film at least through October, although there will be breaks in between certain episodes.  That could leave Joe a window to pop back in.

Joe will be reprising his role as Sweet Tooth in the series. PWInsider is told the plot for season 2 will feature the following basic plot line: “Following the finale of season one, John (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) find themselves entering the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso.  As they try to survive an onslaught of dangerous new foes and familiar faces alike, including in the murderous clown Sweet Tooth, things get complicated when he reunites with his long-long sister, the vigilante Dollface.”

PWInsider.com can also confirm that a number of WWE Stars auditioned for a new character named Axel including Omos, Cedric Alexander, and Apollo Crews.  We are told that the production is going forward without any of the WWE talents having been cast in the role.

For those of you who are fans of the series, PWInsider.com can also confirm the new season will also feature a number of new characters, some adapted from The Twisted Metal video game, including Mr. Grimm, Ashley and Bug as well as the aforementioned Calypso.
