JOHN CENA RETURNS TO WWE TO ANNOUNCE RETIREMENT PLANS

By Mike Johnson on 2024-07-06 20:12:00

John Cena returned to WWE as a surprise at the 2024 Money in the Bank event, introduced by Trish Stratus.

Cena came out and announced his retirement from WWE.  He said he's been in WWE for two decades and has been waves of prosperity like the company has now but he's also seen tremendous hardship where no one knows your name and wants to be your friend and only the most dedicated hardcore fans stand by your side.  He said that whether the company was hot or cold, Canadians always show up, which is why his announcement was being made here.

Cena said when Raw moves to Netflix, it will be a first and he will be there.  He said the 2025 Royal Rumble and the 2025 Elimination Chamber will be his last.  Cena said Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas will be the last Wrestlemania he competes in.   Cena said that he wanted to say thank you to everyone for their support.

Cena was getting emotional at times during his announcement.  He did not specify when his final match would be, but has stated in the past he did not want to wrestle past 50.  He turns 48 this April.

PWInsiderElite.com reported before the show that Cena was among the names backstage.

The Cena appearance was slated to be second on the show, before Sami Zayn vs. Bron Breakker but WWE decided to switch the positioning of the bouts.

Cena's merchandise, branded "The Last Time is Now" was being sold in the ScotiaBank Arena before his appearance.
