MONEY IN THE BANK IS ONE WIDE OPEN PLE, WHAT WILL HAPPEN? - THE MITB TIP SHEET IS NOW ONLINE

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson and Richard Trionfo on 2024-07-05 09:55:00

WWE will present Money in the Bank this Saturday July 5 on Peacock and the WWE Network from Toronto, Ontario Canada.  Here is our take on what will happen on Saturday.

Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match:  Drew McIntyre versus Jey Uso versus Chad Gable versus Carmelo Hayes versus LA Knight versus Andrade

Dave: A testament to how good the booking has been since Vince went into exile is that I don't hate this concept anymore.  I am not saying I love it, on the whole, but it's been booked much, much better under the HHH regime, and I appreciate that.  This match is fairly wide open, though the women's match is even more wide open.  I could make a case for every man winning but to me it really comes down to three, Jey Uso, LA Knight and Drew McIntyre.  Jey seems destined for a role in the Battle Of The Bloodline and there is no obvious person for him to challenge.  Plus, the face carrying around the briefcase usually feels awkward.  If they go with Knight, I could absolutely see him immediately saying he is cashing in against Logan Paul at SummerSlam.  Some would say that's crazy, but he has an issue with Paul and has been trying to get his hands on him for a while now so it would make sense.  I think Paul instead will cost Knight and they will still get to work at SummerSlam. So, as I said on my show on Wednesday, I will take Drew at his word.  He said he would win Money In The Bank and leave the Champion so I could see him winning and then cashing in after Priest vs. Rollins, only to have CM Punk get involved and Drew wastes the cash in.  It's Punk's turn to pay back Drew and what better way to do that than to cost him the Title for the third time......setting up their match at SummerSlam.  The added bonus is that the case is gone on day one.  If this match goes on before Priest defends, I will be even more sold that they will go in this direction.

Mike: This is an interesting mix of talents, but my heart and head both tell me it's Jey Uso walking out.  I can see Drew being the big heavy here but getting screwed in some way by CM Punk yet again.  If Punk went all the way to Scotland to mess with him, Toronto is an easy flight!  Gable is going to be involved with the Wyatt Sicks, Knight doesn't need the case (although I could see some pushing for him), Hayes is too early in his tenure and I don't see them going all the way with Andrade yet.  I really think it's YEET IN THE BANK as of Saturday.

Richard:  This match has a lot of potential options.  I think the favorite in this match is Jey Uso because of the crowd reaction to him, but is that really what should give him the victory.  I have talked about ways to get Jey back into the Bloodline feud involving the briefcase (as a decoy to attack the Bloodline and not to cash in).  LA Knight would be my second pick, only because of what I will say later regarding Drew, but Knight also has the same potential result as Drew.  If Knight wins, he would need to hold off on cashing in because he has another feud for Summerslam.  Drew has a chance, but there is a major obstruction.  The other three are here to elevate their position, but I don't see Andrade, Gable, or Hayes winning.  There are also a number of outside forces from both brands that could affect this match.  I think CM Punk costs Drew the match and sets up their match at Summerslam.  Hayes and Knight will neutralize each other and Logan Paul will get involved and cost Knight (to set up their match at Summerslam) and potentially cost Hayes since he has been running his mouth as well.  Will the Wyatts or Alpha Academy cost Chad the match?   At the end of the night, the people in Toronto will be saying YEET.

Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match:  Lyra Valkyria versus Iyo Sky versus Zoey Stark versus Tiffany Stratton versus Naomi versus Chelsea Green

Dave:  I love how wide open this is.  The booking has been so good that we can make the case for any of the women, including Green who they have slowly been showing us is more than just a comedy character, which I love.  I think it comes down to Iyo and Tiff.  I could see going in either direction but if it's me, I put Stratton over and strap the rocket to her.  She is so, so good....and so, so young.  Her character with the briefcase seems to book itself.

Mike: To me, the front runners are IYO SKY and Tiffany Stratton.  In my mind, Stratton gets the nod here as she's the complete package and is ready for that push.  I am excited personally for Zoey and Chelsea to also be in this bout as Stark has always shown great work in the ring while Green does great character stuff but hasn't really been given a chance in a major way outside of tag teams.  Naomi is probably one of the most reliable talents in the women's division and they obviously see something in Lyra, so this is a great mix of talents all getting a big spotlight here.

Richard:  It would be nice to see someone in this match who has not had a recent title match or who is not considered to be a potential challenger for Liv or Bayley.  If Dakota had been able to qualify it would have changed the complexion of the match because it would have allowed for Damage CTRL to have an advantage.  If the winner is not going to cash in for a while (at least into 2025), then it might be right for Tiffany to get the win because I think they need to rebuild her a bit.  Lyra has been on a roll since being called up and would be an interesting option.  If Iyo wins, it might be good because she can challenge the Raw champion, but her history with Bayley could set up the restoration of that feud.  Zoey has had some good performances in multi-person matches and I think she will do well in this match but she will not win.  Naomi and Chelsea will be good bases for the match but I don't see either of them winning.  Maybe Blair Davenport does something to Naomi during the match.

Damian Priest versus Seth Rollins for the World Championship

Dave: What makes the most sense is for these two to have a strong, competitive match that Priest wins, in the end, and gets elevated in the process.  I could definitely see some Judgment Day shenangins and Priest telling them to get lost, he is doing it on his own.  There are fractures in the group and it seems like Priest and Rhea will be going face.  Seth can give Priest the made guy rub in putting him over here.

Mike: This needs to be similar to the end result of Will Ospreay putting over Swerve Strickland at AEW last week.  It should be about Damian Priest getting a major win to assist in his prestige and role as he is still finding his way in the role and while he's adjusted well from a character and vignette perspective, I feel he is still waiting for the big milestone victory.  Seth is the right guy to have that match with given he's one of the most versatile talents they have in the company.  The audience will buy into the idea that Seth will win, so I expect the near falls will be a lot of fun, but in the end, Priest should walk out of here as close as possible to being a made man.

Richard:  This is the future title stipulation match for Saturday (and not the only one this weekend from WWE).  If Priest wins, Seth does not get another title match as long as Priest is champion.  However, if Seth wins, Priest has to leave THE Judgment Day.  Seth deserves a title match since he has not received his rematch after losing at Wrestlemania, but he has not wrestled since Mania and there are others who deserve a title match before Seth.  This should be a good match, but Priest needs this more than Seth if they want to keep Priest at the top of Raw.  It also allows Priest to exert more dominance over THE Judgment Day (until Rhea returns) as he prepares for his match against Gunther at Summerslam.  I can see someone in THE Judgment Day try to get involved and it could almost cost Priest, but Damian will get past that roadblock and retain.

Sami Zayn versus Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship

Dave: Everything seems so ripe for Breakker, who is a freakin' stud, to win.  That usually tells me HHH is saying not, quite yet.  I expect Breakker will look like a monster here but at some point near the end, make a "rookie mistake" that costs him the match.  He will absolutely carry gold some day.  I think we just will have to wait a little while for it to happen.

Mike: This should be, in my mind, the moment where Bron Breakker ascends to the next level, a monster heel destroying someone on their home turf and shocking the world.  That's Vader beating Sting at the Great American Bash level shock moment.  I expect this will be a lot of fun.

Richard:  I like what they have done with Bron Breakker since he was called up from NXT and he presents a perfect case to win the title on Saturday night.  Sami had the great story to win the title at Wrestlemania, but since then, he has been stuck in the Alpha Academy turmoil and overshadowed his defense of the titles.  Will this be the second Canadian PPV that Sami Zayn cannot win?  I think so.  Bron becomes your new Intercontinental Champion.

Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens versus The Bloodline

Dave: This should be sooooooooo fun.  I expect it to devolve into chaos and whatever the finish is it won't be definitive.  If Roman Reigns shows up, I could see the faces using that distraction to get the win.  If not, The Bloodline will probably get the win in tainted fashion.

Mike: This should be a great brawl with all over the place fighting.  There's no way Bloodline isn't winning.  It is way too soon for them to show any weakness, especially after they smashed Paul Heyman into oblivion.  I would even have them do the Shield Trifecta powerbomb regularly as a continued shot at Roman Reigns to take out one of the heroes here.  It will be interesting to see if they are able to get Jacob Fatu into the country as he's never performed in Canada due to past transgressions.

Richard:  I like that Cody is not defending the title on this show, but this match has so much potential to determine the next six to nine months of the Smackdown brand.  I would have the person who gets the pinfall, if it isn't Cody, get to face Cody for the title at SummerSlam, but if Cody wins, he gets to pick his opponent.  This could lead to a lot of interesting things because it could cause some tension with Cody, Kevin, and Randy if they go in that direction.  This should be more of a fight than a match because of what The Bloodline has done.  I would have Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Jacob Fatu in this match.   They could have the Bloodline win and get the pinfall on Cody to add to the intrigue for SummerSlam (which I think will be Cody and Solo [to set up the return of Roman Regins and the build to Tribal War Games])
