TWO GREAT MOMENTS AFTER SMACKDOWN WENT OFF THE AIR

By Mike Johnson on 2024-06-28 23:15:00

After Friday Night Smackdown went off the air in New York City, Paul Heyman was stretchered out of Madison Square Garden.  There was a massive "ECW" chant as he was near the end of the aisle and being brought backstage.

There were several matches and several special moments:

*Awesome Truth defeated Pretty Deadly.

*Jey Uso defeated Finn Balor in a Street Fight after putting Balor through a table.  Balor substituted for WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest who spent hours trapped on a plane on a runway with mechanical issues and was unable to get to NYC in time for the show.

*WWE Champion Cody Rhodes came out at the entrance and announced that a member of the WWE family was leaving and brought out Kayla Braxton. He praised her work and wished her well on her next chapter. Braxton then told the crowd that 8 years ago when she came to WWE she really didn't know much and she thanked everybody for everything that she's learned and for supporting her and for making her part of the family and she hopes that everyone would follow her on her next chapter in life. It was a really nice moment.

After Braxton left, Cody came to the ring and said that this was not how he planned his night at Smackdown in the Garden referring to the brawl earlier in the night. However, it was also an important night because this is where the story began and told the story of Dusty Rhodes winning the WWWF title from Superstar Graham and going to the corner to raise the belt only to have it taken away. Cody said that when he began the story he promised that he was going to raise the belt he won, which is what that title evolved into, in the same corner but instead wanted to do something different. The actual WWWF Championship that Dusty held for a second was taken out and Cody Rhodes went to the corner and raised that belt. It was a really really special awesome moment.

Cody then spent about 30 to 45 minutes going around ringside taking photos with fans.
