WWE will present Clash at the Castle this Saturday June 15 on Peacock and the WWE Network from Glasgow, Scotland. Here is our take on what will happen on Saturday.
Damian Priest versus Drew McIntyre for the World Heavyweight Championship (The Judgment Day is banned from ringside)
Dave: I would love to see Drew win it in his home country but it wouldn't make sense long term. If that happens, Drew gets Gunther at SummerSlam and Damien's legs are chopped off. No, what makes much more sense to me is that CM Punk shows up and costs Drew. Then we get Priest-Gunther at SummerSlam and Punk-McIntyre. You have two top matches instead of one.
Mike: THIS is going to be interesting. I can see them hitting CM Punk's music and Drew getting screwed, but I think that if you do just that, you run the risk of upsetting Scottish fans who have been waiting for their moment. I don't think the time is right for a title change, since Drew vs. Punk doesn't need a title at stake and quite frankly, Damian is still finding himself as champ, so taking the belt off him will kill his momentum and give the message he wasn't working as champ, which would be unfair. I don't see WWE doing a 60 minute draw, so that's out the window. I would actually have Punk show up early and get ejected (or appear via video) and that gives Damian the advantage early. Have Drew make the big comeback but let Damian shock everyone with a big finish and win after a bunch of near falls. Drew gets all the respect from the Scottish fans for fighting to the end (maybe with his "hurt" elbow) and Damian gets some additional credibility. Then, you can have Punk show up and we go off with a crazy brawl to get everyone hooked for Raw? I think WWE would be well advised not to do a DQ or countout. Clean finish works better in my opinion.
Richard: Since Drew McIntyre was able to vanquish THE Judgment Day from invoking the Bloodline Rules for the match on Saturday, everything should be fair and square for these two men in Drew's home country. With the 'home field advantage' and a level playing field, this should be the time that Drew gets the big world title victory that he should have had against Roman Reigns in Cardiff in 2022. This should be a good match. Both of these men have been at the top of their games on the mic. We know that Drew is not going to have an easy road to victory. I think he should win the title on Saturday, but we know that there is no THE Judgment Day interference allowed at ringside. There is someone who has tormented Drew for a while who is not in THE Judgment Day. I see Punk doing his best to ruin Drew's homecoming. If Punk is able to go before SummerSlam, maybe he costs Drew the match or Drew wins and then Punk costs him at Money in the Bank. Don't take away Drew's moment in the UK twice.
Cody Rhodes versus AJ Styles in an "I Quit" Match for the Undisputed Championship
Dave: I don't see Cody quitting. I like the way that they set this up. AJ asked for another shot and was rightfully told no by Nick Aldis. So how do you get another shot? Make the champ call you out. Very well done. AJ quits here and then we move on to see what Cody will be doing at SummerSlam.
Mike: They should watch Flair vs. Funk and try to emulate that intensity. Have Styles get "hurt" going for a big aerial move (Spiral Tap) and allow Cody to use that as the means to gain the submission. Clean finish. Nothing screwy.
Richard: I guess if you want to get a title match in WWE, all you have to do is lose the first time and then fake a retirement to get a second shot. I loved the way that the fans and other wrestlers were tricked by AJ's actions, and it was a great fake out. I am not a big fan of "I Quit" or other comparable matches where a pinfall or submission doesn't win and you need to fail to beat the count or not utter those two words. Neither of these wrestlers are submission wrestlers so this will end up being a battle of attrition. Will Karl and Luke get involved to help AJ? Will anyone be there to help Cody? I do not see Cody losing this match, but the bigger question is who is next for Cody after this match.
Bayley versus Piper Niven for the WWE Women's Championship
Dave: I am happy that Piper will be given a stage in her home country. As anyone who has seen her work pre-WWE knows, she can go. I expect her to have a strong showing but to lose to Bayley. Hopefully it's one of those matches where she gets elevated in a loss.
Mike: No one really expects a title change here, but this should be about allowing Piper to show everyone on a big scale what she can do. We saw it in ICW and NXT, but the masses have never really been exposed to it. Let them go to war and Bayley overcomes the odds, getting the win, showing she can face the villains when the odds are against her - as they will be when she wrestles Nia Jax. If Niven comes out stronger after this match, that should be the victory WWE wants here.
Richard: I thought the promo segment between Bayley and Piper last week was great with Bayley praising Piper for her work at the Mae Young Classic only to have Piper remind Bayley that she had been doing it for almost a decade at that point and established herself in Europe. Piper showed how great she is during her run in NXT UK but never had that title win. It doesn't feel like this is time to take the title from Bayley and if they give the title to Piper, I don't want it to be a short run seen as a 'hey, you wrestled in your home country . . . congrats' reign like some could have said about Homicide as ROH champion. I think this match will be the one that outkicks its coverage and delivers more than people expect. Only Chelsea Green can keep Piper from winning the title, and I am going to say that it doesn't happen. Piper Niven will be your new champion.
Sami Zayn versus Chad Gable for the Intercontinental Championship
Dave: This whole feud has been awesome. Gable is showing the world how good he is and how stupid Vince McMahon was to saddle him with Shorty G. I am sure that Otis will play a big part in this. My hunch is that he finally has enough of Chad and that leads to Sami retaining. Sami as the every man has been great. They need to keep him in that role and the belt helps a lot.
Mike: I think Dave is on the right path. This is the moment where Otis finally slugs Gable, setting up Sami to get the win.
Richard: There are many delusional characters in pro wrestling (not in reality) and Chad is one of the biggest. The man who berates his minions but thinks that they are doing what he is asking them to do. Sami hasn't had a chance to build on his victory over Gunther at Wrestlemania and I think this needs to be the last time that Sami and Chad wrestle for a while. Sami has looked vulnerable when Otis 'accidentally' helps Chad, but I don't think that will happen on Saturday. With the addition of Tozawa and Maxxine to the Chad contingent, Chad is screwed because something bad will happen. Sami shouldn't need the help to win, but Otis, when given the chance to help Chad will instead screw Chad out of the victory and Sami retains. Then we can have Chad berate all three on Monday and we get Otis versus Chad as a MITB qualifier.
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill versus Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn versus Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark for the Women's Tag Team Championship
Dave: I will go with my standby, the Titles shouldn't change in a three or four way. Plus, WWE is marketing the champs as Marvel Superheroes, as they should. I expect Alba to do at least one insane Kay Lee Ray spot.
Mike: There is no way there should be a title change here.
Richard: Did they add Zoey and Shayna so Alba and Isla don't get pinned in Scotland? It is great that we have tag teams in WWE to challenge the champions, but are there any teams in the women's division on the same level as your current champions. I think you have some good wrestlers in the ring to challenge Jade and Bianca but Shayna Baszler lost last Sunday in NXT Underground and as a team, they haven't really had a major victory, even if they beat Isla and Alba on Monday night. Alba is one of the talents who I think have been criminally underused on the main roster (and for the most part since she came to the US) and with so many other stories of 'wrestler returns to home country to challenge for title', her and Isla's is the one that is the biggest longshot. It would be nice if they are going to do a multi-team match that you have a team from Raw and a team from Smackdown. Jade and Bianca will retain.
