AEW DYNAMITE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2024-06-12 22:20:00

It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is coming to us from the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, IA. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone.

We start with Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana heading to the ring so that Swerve can talk about his match at Forbidden Door against Will Ospreay. He says that last year, Ospreay was an assassin, but he didn’t see that at Double or Nothing, and he needs to be ready to take the kill shot.  He says that Ospreay defends his title all the time, unless the tag team champions.

This brings out The Elite and Okada says it is HIS house. Matt apologizes for Okada and then says how dominant The Elite have been and go over all of the people they have taken out. He says he is not paying attention to the Bots and the Trolls. He then says that some people in the back think they aren’t violent enough, so they challenge four of the best to Blood and Guts. Nick then asks if Swerve wants to stand side by side with The Elite and Change the World. They hand him a pair of their shoes.

Swerve says he doesn’t wear size nine, Nick’s pearl necklace isn’t cool any more, and he’s a philanthropist and tosses the shoes into the crowd.

Nick says he hears the injury bug about to bite Swerve, and they start to square off.  This brings out The Acclaimed with Billy Gunn, and as they hit the ring, Christopher Daniels comes front he back and says they don’t have time for a good old fashioned fight because Jack Perry has a match RIGHT NOW, and they need to leave the ring.

As they do, Dustin Rhodes is on his way.

Jack Perry vs Dustin Rhodes

It’s a shame they don’t show the killer promo Dustin cut on Collision for this match, as it was one of the best of his AEW tenure.

Rhodes works over Perry in the corner until Perry rakes the eyes. They run the ropes and Rhodes gets a clothesline and goes back to working over Perry in the corner. The middle turnbuckle pad is turned off and the fight spills onto the floor where Rhodes goes into the ringpost and then the steel steps.  Perry pulls up the pads at ringside. Perry tries for a pile driver but Dustin gets a back body drop and we see Rhodes has been busted open as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, they are in the ring and the ref takes a chair from Perry. Perry works over Rhodes in the ropes and calls for a V Trigger to mock Kenny Omega, but Rhodes gets a power slam on him. Rhodes takes a few forearms, yells “Come On” and kicks Perry, gets the drop down punch and a big bulldog. Rhodes gives Perry ten in the corner and sets him up in the corner.  Rhodes grabs the chair and the ref takes it from him. When she is getting rid of it, he gets Broken Dreams.

Rhodes then lays in a series of blows and the crossroads for two. Crowd is solidly behind Rhodes.Perry is able to whip Rhodes into the exposed turnbuckle. They go to the floor and Perry gets a DDT on the exposed cement floor.

Perry rolls into the ring and Rhodes makes it into the ring on the nine count. Rhodes slowly gets to his feet and Perry gets a low blow as the ref was not looking. Rhodes flips the bird to Perry and Perry hits a running knee for the pin and the win.

Winner and moving onto the ladder match to the Forbidden Door Ladder Match:  Jack Perry

We get a recap of The Don Callis family attacking Orange Cassidy at the end of Collision with Kris Statlander wanting to join in, but being run off by Willow Nightingale.

In the back, Renee Paquette is with Orange Cassidy Mark Briscoe and Kyle O’Reilly. Kyle says they are professionals and can work together even if they wrestled on Saturday. Cassidy says Willow has his back. Briscoe says the word of the day is Conglomeration and talks about how they will win tonight.  Mark’s promo is great and Renee can’t keep a straight face.

Rush vs The Already In The Ring Deonn Rusman

You know how they said Rush would be in action tonight.  In Action is Spanish for destroying a local wrestler.

Rush beats down Rusman inside and then outside the ring. He puts Rusman in the ring and hits the Bull’s Horns for the pin and the win.

Winner: Rush

Rush grabs a mic and puts a foot on Rusman’s head and says he’s like all Americans, weak.

MJF must be the Great American Hero because he is on his way to the ring. He charges the ring and they throw hands. They turn to take out security as they try to hit the ring and then Christopher Daniels gets on the apron, but it doesn’t stop them from going back to fighting. MJF tosses Rush over the barricade and they fight into the crowd.

The fight goes into the back and MJF puts Rush through a table. The locker room empties and they are pulled apart. We are then told we will see MJF vs Rush to kick off next week’s show.

Cassidy gets a diving DDT from the top on Fletcher for two. Cassidy calls for the Orange Punch, but Takeshita grabs his feet. It's time for each person to take out the last person in the ring.

Fletcher gets a pile driver on Briscoe for the pin and the win.

It’s now TV Time with Chris Jericho. Large William introduces him. He says Jericho is the Michael Jordan of Michael Jordans.

Jericho talks about her new shirt, asks who wants one, and then he drops it on the podium. He then explains growing corn to people in Iowa. Bryan Keith says if people want to grow good lame ass corn, they’d better pay attention to Chris Jericho. He then brings out Private Party, who he says needs some advice.

As they come out, Large William does the White Guy Shuffle to their music. Jericho says they’ve done some great work, but they haven’t been winning matches because their basics aren’t up to snuff. He says their training wasn’t up to snuff, not like when he was trained by Stu Hart. Kassidy says he wants Jericho to show him how to climb the ropes.

Remember when I said Nick Comoroto could be a good big man when he came into AEW?  I was obviously wrong as Garcia wins quickly with a modified DDT for the pin and the win.

Winner: Daniel Garcia.

Renee asks Will Ospreay about how his body is holding up, but he has to drop off his Forbidden Door contract and face Rey Fenix.

Pac says he has been piling up losses and been trodden on by everyone. He’s humiliated and says the good news is that it ends now. He’s angry and he’s at his best when he’s angry.
