Commander Nakajima Successfully Defends Sukeban World Championship
(Los Angeles, CA – June 4, 2024) On Thursday, May 30, over 2,000 fans attended the historic Trinity for the Los Angeles debut of Sukeban, the Japanese women’s pro-wrestling league. The five-match card is now available to watch for free, on-demand, on YouTube. The show brought Japan’s most talented roster of female wrestlers to its third stop on its United States tour, following fights in New York and Miami.
In the main event, Sukeban World Champion Commander Nakajima successfully defended her title against opponent Crush Yuu, as Sukeban Commissioner and legendary pro-wrestler Bull Nakano presided over the fight.
Known for combining the sport with the worlds of music, art, fashion, and entertainment, Sukeban drew notable guests including: rapper Saweetie, music producer Diplo, actors Barbie Ferreira, Steven Yeun, David Choe, Norman Reedus, Rowan Blanchard, Greta Lee, Scout Willis, and China Chow, musicians Dev Hynes, Caroline Polachek and Kilo Kish, curator Jeffrey Deitch, Drag Queen Rock M Sakura, and more.
In a surprise moment, rapper Saweetie joined the Harajuku Stars as they entered the ring to her new single “NANi.”
Full Day Productions, led by David Chamberlin and Connor Schell, produced the live-stream.
The Los Angeles fight featured five matches. The full match results were:
The Vandals (Midnight Player and Otaku-chan, accompanied by BINGO) defeated Supersonic and Stray Cat
Sareee Bomb defeated Maya Mamushi
The Harajuku Stars (Saki Bimi and Babyface, accompanied by Saweetie) defeated Dangerous Liaisons (Queen of Hearts and KONAMI)
Lady Antoinette defeated Atomic Banshee
Commander Nakajima defeated Crush Yuu to retain her Sukeban World Championship
Following the main event, Sareee Bomb of the Cherry Bomb Girls attacked Commander Nakajima, leading to a brawl between Sukeban’s rival gangs, the Dangerous Liaisons, Cherry Bomb Girls, Vandals, Harajuku Stars, and the Stray Cat.
Sukeban’s Kunichi Nomura served as ring announcer, Tokyo DJ ecec scored the fight, and Japanese yo-yo master Ayumu Harada performed to an ecstatic crowd.
Kazeem Famuyide, Renée Paquette and Saya served as Sukeban’s commentary team for the fight’s live-stream.
The LA fight was overseen by Sukeban’s Creative Director Olympia Le-Tan. Make-up artist Kali Kennedy created new looks for each wrestler. A new intricate logo by New York artist Aurel Schmidt was presented during the fight and on a collection of limited edition merch.
The evening also included a Japanese-style night market, with local LA restaurants Arroz & Fun, Tokyo Yakisoba, Pokenachos, and more.
