TONY KHAN ON WBD NEGOTIATIONS, COPELAND & ATHENA INJURIES, POTENTIAL NEW TITLE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2024-05-27 10:26:00

During last night's AEW Double or Nothing media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan noted:

-AEW remains in an exclusive negotiating period with Warner Bros. Discovery and praised WBD head David Zaslav as having a fresh perpective as to what AEW could bring to WBD.  Khan thanked the original WB team that brought AEW to TBS and TNT, noting wrestling on those networks "fit like a glove"

-Adam Copeland, who appeared to be injured after coming off the top of the steel cage last night vs. Malakai Black, was being evaluated.  Copeland was limping as he left the match.

-ROH Women's Champion Athena was "banged up" but would be 100% soon.  Athena hurt her ankle taking a bump to the outside several weeks back while filming an ROH TV episode.

-There was interest in potentially having a Mixed Tag Team Championship.

-Having an AEW x NJPW event in Japan would be a great next step for the companies but it wouldn't likely be titled Forbidden Door.

When asked about why she took so long to debut in the ring for AEW, Mercedes Mone noted that Tony Khan laid out the plan of her debuting in Boston and then having her first match at Double or Nothing.  Mone joked, "B**tch, I'm patient."
