MLW LOOKING TO CALIFORNIA, KOJIMA VS. LAWLOR AND MORE NEWS

By Mike Johnson on 2024-05-21 11:00:00

MLW is slated to undergo site surveys for potential California venues next month.  The promotion is looking to open up new markets later this year, including Canada and The West Coast.  No timeline for when they'd like to run that side of the country but it's long been a goal to get into Los Angeles as a market.

MLW remains "very happy" with the new format of two big shows per month, one free and one premium live event.   There are no current plans to return to weekly TV but the option remains open if they find a partner who wants to to license a series.

The 6/1 Atlanta Battle Riot event at Center Stage is expected to sell out in advance.   Battle Riot event will stream live on MLW's YouTube channel.  MLW Battle Riot VI will feature Hollywood star Paul Walter Hauser, Jimmy Yang, Alex Kane, Sami Callihan, Matt Riddle, Místico, Bobby Fish, Ernest “The Cat” Miller, Matthew Justice, Timothy Thatcher, Davey Boy Smith Jr., Mads Krule Krugger, AJ Francis, 1 Called Manders, AKIRA, Mr. Thomas, Brett Ryan Gosselin, Jake Crist, Josh Bishop and more competing.   The Battle Riot bout, featuring Rumble like entrances, is a come as you are Battle Royal with the winner earning a future MLW Championship match.  Previous winners have been Tom Lawlor, LA Park, Alexander Hammerstone, Jacob Fatu, and Alex Kane.

Also announced for 6/1 is  MLW Champion Satoshi Kojima vs. Tom Lawlor, MLW Middleweight Champion Mistico vs. Star Jr. and Ritual Combat match featuring AJ Francis vs. Alex Kane. Thus far, the promotion has been selling out all of its events thus far this year.  Star Jr. has been really impressive in his MLW appearances.  Francis and Kane have taken some inspiration from Marvel's Black Panther film series for their feud.

MLW is now selling YouTube memberships, obviously a move towards doing PPVs on that platform.

The local Chicago Telemundo station did live cut ins during the live Azteca Lucha portion of MLW's Chicago event two weeks back.  That's the first time that's happened for MLW.

Matthew Justice is OK after that crazy bump he took that aired on the Fury Road event over the weekend, being tossed off a balcony through a table by Mads Kruger.

Bill Alfonso will be off TV selling his injury from Fury Road but will be back.

Paul Walter Hauser is now on Twitter at this link.

MLW has released an official Battle Riot VI shirt as well as new shirts for Tom Lawlor, WTF, Azteca Lucha and more at this link.
