5/18 NJPW BEST OF SUPER JUNIOR 31 RESULTS FROM HACHIOJI, JAPAN

5/18/24 Results from New Japan's Best of the Super Juniors 31 from Hachioji, Japan:

No preview tags tonight, just tournament matches.  

1 - Kosei Fujita vs. Clark Conners

Conners hits a Jeep Flip and a spear.  Two count.  Fujita applies a STF with a chin lock, then grabs the arms, then a face lock.

Conners taps out.

Kosei Fujita has 4 points

Clark Conners has 4 points.

Solid match.  Fujita has a win over the IWGP Jr Tag Champion 

2 - Dragon Dia vs. Drilla Moloney

Moloney hits a powerbomb, held onto the waist then hit a Drilla Killa.

Moloney pins Dia.

Drilla Moloney has 4 points.

Dragon Dia has 0 points

3 - HAYATA vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru

Kanemaru attacks HAYATA on his way to ringside.  Kanemaru continues his attack on the left leg from the other night.   Kanemaru pushes the referee into HAYATA.  The ref goes down.  Kanemaru misses a Suntory Surprise.  HAYATA kicks him in the groin.  HAYATA hits 403 Impact.

HAYATA pins Kanemaru.

HAYATA has 4 points.

Yoshinobu Kanemaru has 2 points.

4 - DOUKI vs. Ninja Mack

Mack dazzled with some high flying moves.  DOUKI stunned him with a DDT.  Mack tried to counter out of DOUKI’s German suplex but DOUKI traps him in the Italian Stretch No. 32.   Mack does an acrobatic headstand which pins DOUKI’s shoulders.  DOUKI has to release the submission to avoid the pin.

Mack hits a super kick and a Ninja Special.   DOUKI avoids a Ninja Bomb.  DOUKI sunset flips Mack and applies the Italian Stretch No. 32.

Mack submits.

DOUKI has 4 points.

Ninja Mack has 4 points.

5 - BUSHI vs. TJP

Both men tried for their mist spray.   BUSHI hits the black mist. 

BUSHI pins TJP with the Bushi Roll.

BUSHI has 2 points.

TJP has 0 points.

6 - KUSHIDA vs. Robbie Eagles

Good wrestling match.  KUSHIDA attacked Eagles’ arm.  KUSHIDA jumped on Eagles trying for the Hoverboard Lock.  Eagles counters into a Turbo Backpack.   Two count.  KUSHIDA kicks out of the Ron Miller Special.   Eagles hits the Hyperion Strike.

Eagles pins KUSHIDA.

Robbie Eagles has 4 points.

KUSHIDA has 6 points.

7 - Titan vs. Blake Christian

Good match.  Lots of lucha moves from both men.  Christian hits springboard 450 and pins Titan.

Blake Christian remains undefeated with 8 points.

Titan has 6 points.

8 - Francesco Akira vs. Taiji Ishimori

The announcers spoke of Akira having shoulder problems.

Ishimori attacked Akira’s left arm.  Akira attacked Ishimori’s neck.  Really good match.   Ishimori goes for a Bloody Cross.   Akira reverses into a small package.  Two count.   Akira stuns Ishimori with a super kick and follows with a DDT off the ropes.  Ishimori is dazed.  Akira hits a Fireball.

Akira pins Ishimori.

Francesco Akira has 4 points.

Taiji Ishimori has 6 points.

9 - El Desperado vs. Kevin Knight

Desperado quickly went after Knight’s leg.  Knight sold very well in this match.  Desperado traps Knight in Numero Dos.  Knight gets the ropes.  Knight hits a Frankensteiner off the top rope and standing double stomp on Desperado’s chest.   Knight hits the Spike DDT.

Knight pins Desperado.

Kevin Knight has 6 points.

El Desperado has 4 points.

Big win for Kevin Knight!

10 - Hiromu Takahashi vs. SHO

Hachioji is Hiromu’s hometown.   Hiromu’s music plays.   SHO comes out holding a photo of Hiromu.   The crowd immediately boos him.   SHO has a lot of heat.  SHO gives a statement supposedly written by Hiromu.   The statement says Hiromu is scared to wrestle SHO and apologizes to the fans in Hachioji.

Hiromu comes to the ring in handcuffs and he looks beaten up.   He attacks SHO and the match begins.  They fight into the crowd.   SHO beats on Hiromu with a chair.  They chase each other all over the arena.   The referee sends young lions to find the handcuff key.   Another referee finds the key and unlocks Hiromu.   Hiromu attacks SHO.  

Yujiro comes to the ring and attacks Hiromu with a reverse DDT.   Yujiro distracts the referee while SHO grabs his wrench.   Hiromu screams pretending that SHO hit him.  The referee thinks SHO hit Hiromu.  SHO throws Hiromu into the referee.    Yujiro and SHO stomp on Hiromu.   SHO hits a straight jacket Piledriver.  Two count.   Hiromu grabs SHO in his submission known as “D”.  SHO bites Hiromu in the groin to release the hold.    Hiromu goes for D again.   SHO picks him up and runs him into the turnbuckle.    Hiromu blocks a low blow and hits one of his own.  Hiromu hits a Victory Royale.  Two count.   Hiromu with a lariat and hits Time Bomb.  Yujiro pulls the referee out of the ring.   BUSHI comes to the ring and takes out Yujiro.  Hiromu hits SHO with another lariat and hits Time Bomb II.

Hiromu pins SHO.

Hiromu Takahashi has 4 points.

SHO has 4 points.
