JESSE VENTURA IN TALKS WITH WWE

By Mike Johnson on 2024-05-14 18:19:00

WWE Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura revealed he is currently in discussions with World Wrestling Entertainment for a new Legends deal during an interview with WABC 77 Radio's Frank Morano.

Ventura was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2004 and after an in-ring career that took him through a number of territories, including the AWA, Portland and the WWF, he retired after health issues to focus on full-time commentary for the WWF.  Ventura remained the company's top heel announcer until a falling out over working on outside projects and issues with WWF not paying royalties on home video releases.  Ventura sued and won, being awarded $800,000 in royalties.

After parlaying his wrestling fame into acting roles, Ventura had a run in WCW as an announcer before focusing full-time on politics.  While he was Governor of Minnesota, Ventura reuturned to what was then still the WWF, referring the main event of Summerslam '99 with Mick Foley winning the WWF Championship over Triple H and Steve Austin.

Since his time as Governor of Minnesota, Ventura has written a number of books as well as hosting numerous television and radio series.

Ventura noted during the interview that the reason he has contracts from WWE with his attorney right now is the company's change in direction under the new ownership.  Ventura did not state what any potential role might be, but seemed to distance himself from the idea of returning to announcing for the company.

WWE Legends deals, traditionally, would give the company the rights to use the signed legends for licensed content, such as video games, action figures, clothing, calendars and other WWE licensing.
