The National Wrestling Alliance will be reviving the NWA Mid-America Heavyweight Championship at the 6/1 "Back to the Territories" TV Taping in Knoxville, TN for the CW App, PWInsider.com has confirmed.
The plan is to have representatives from different NWA "territories" competing to crown the new champion in Knoxville. The new champion would then travel across those territories defending the belt.
NWA official territories Exodus Pro (Cleveland), NWA Chicago, NWA Southeast - Joe Cazana Promotions, FTW, NWA Kross Fire Wrestling and World League Wrestling will be represented at the event.
The original version of the Mid-America Heavyweight Championship was inauguarated back in the late 1950s and was active until 1987, held by a number of stars including Randy Savage, Buddy Rogers, Harley Race, Bob Armstrong, Tommy Rich, Jerry Lawler, Jackie Fargo, Dennis Condrey, Bobby Eaton, Jeff Jarrett, Tracy Smothers, Koko Ware, Rip Rogers and many others.
The Back to the Territories taping is being held at Karns High School in Knoxville with a portion of the proceeds going to the school's football team.
Talents from the NWA, including NWA Women's Champion Kenzie Paige, Thom Latimer, Bryan Idol, Natalia Markova, “The Thrillbilly” Silas Mason and Kerry Morton will be in Puerto Rico on 5/11. The NWA will then head to Texas for the 2024 Crockett Cup on 5/18. They will then head to Knoxville on 6/1.
