ROH Review Episode 63: “Serpentico’s Maskless Yet Again”
We are back with another ROH episode review! As always there was only one champion on the show and a bunch of quick matches throughout the hour-long episode. So with all of that being said let’s review another ROH episode.
Undisputed Kingdom Promo:
Bennett and Taven respond to 2.0’s challenge from last week and Taven doesn’t understand. He says that the Kingdom is no match for 2.0 and Bennett says he hopes Parker is a better father than wrestler because if he is not he should have retired.
Mercedes Martinez, Diamante, and Taya Valkyrie vs Lady Frost, Leyla Hirsch, and Abadon:
So, we are stuck in the trio’s women's tag team action every week instead of four-corner survival. I would rather see any of these women start feuding with Starkz so we can begin to legitimize the new championship, but what do I know? When Lady Frost got the hot tag Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman were saying a bunch of Frozen puns, which was comical. Diamante got the pin over Frost in a fun opener, hopefully, we get a number one contender out of this somehow.
Winners: Mercedes Martinez, Diamante, and Taya Valkyrie
Anthony Ogogo vs Zicky Dice:
Ogogo has made his ROH debut! I’ll be honest when Ogogo first aligned with Shane Taylor Promotions, I did not get it and I was not the biggest fan, but now that he is being used more it makes all the sense in the world. This match was quick as Ogogo won by knockout, but I want more of this to build Ogogo up for a championship match. After the match, Ogogo said that he made his presence in ROH as he talked about all of his accomplishments in London he is ready to make more of an impact and represent STP proudly.
Winner: Anthony Ogogo
Rachael Ellering Promo:
Ellering says she thought 2024 was going to be her year and although it has not been that so far she is ready to get a fresh start, Maria Kannelis interrupts and says the reason she is a failure is because she did not accept her help. She says that she tried to start a women’s promotion and she learned that did not sell tickets and neither would Ellering.
Kiera Hogan vs Ashley D”Amboise:
Hogan looked to have gotten hurt towards the end of this match so I do hope that she is okay. This was a bit slower than Hogan’s usual matches and I thought this would have gotten a little more time because D’Amboise was in the match, but due to the injury time may have gotten cut. Hogan gets the win.
Winner: Kiera Hogan
Nick Comoroto Promo:
Comoroto says that Jacoby Watts's words are here to empower people and make people better. He says that he has joined Watts and it was a no-brainer decision. Watts asks who else will join him and starts praising Jesus.
Lance Archer and The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent) vs An Unannounced Trio of Local Talent:
First squash match of the night, and we did not even get the introduction of their opponents! Only took 30 minutes.
Winners: Lance Archer and The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent)
ROH Women’s World Television Championship Proving Grounds Match: Billie Starkz vs Dream Girl Ellie:
Ellie and Athena had words throughout the match so maybe this sets up a Proving Grounds match between the two of them down the line. Other than that this was quick and to the point. Starkz wins.
Winner: “And Still” Billie Starkz
Premier Athletes Promo:
Sterling says that they have not been honest with the people at home and now they are here with their official mission statement. Ari Davari and Tony Nese set their sights on the ROH Tag Team Championships, while Woods sets his sights on the World Title. Sterling ends the promo by saying the Premier Athletes live by the motto of the three A’s Anybody, Anywhere, Anytime.
Angelico and Serpentico vs Cole Karter and Griff Garrison:
Given that this feud has gone on for a couple of weeks I thought this would have gotten a stipulation, but I was wrong. This was one of the longer main events ROH had in recent weeks which was great and better than those five-minute main events they were doing a couple of months ago. Serpentico and Angelico got the win as Kanellis had a meltdown on the outside of the ring! Looks like Serpentico finally got his mask back. After the match, Garrison and Karter beat down Serpentico and Angelico, but they threw Serpentico into a steel chair. Poor Serpentico did not have his mask for long as Kanellis quickly stole it back.
Winners: Serpentico and Angelico
Overall:
Although the hour-long episodes are better than the 19-match episodes, these episodes still are not good. One champion matches for no reason, and only two storylines building on a week-to-week basis. Do better ROH!
