The late Akebono was honored last night in New York City at the World Championship Sumo 2 event at The Theater in Madison Square Garden.
Prior to the WCS Tournament final, a graphic in Akebono's honor was placed on all the screens in the facility and event asked for a moment of silence in Akebono's honor.

The passing of Akebono, who parlayed his success in the sumo world into MMA appearances before becoming a professional wrestler, including several appearances in WWE, most notably a sumo bout against Big Show at Wrestlemania 21, was announced last week.
