AEW President Tony Khan discussed AEW's decision to air footage from behind the scenes at All In: London on tomorrow's edition of Dynamite on TBS with Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso.
“AEW has a great track record on delivering what we advertise, and it is real footage,” said Khan, who Barrasso described as reamining "guarded over the specific content that will air."
"The Young Bucks will show backstage footage from All In, the most important event in AEW history–the world record-holder for the most tickets ever sold for any wrestling record, 81,035 total–and it was an important night backstage, as well, Khan said. "The decision is based on putting on the best show for AEW, as well as driving interest for Dynamite and our Dynasty pay-per-view on April 21,” said Khan. “This is real-life footage that affected many people, and it will air for the first time on TBS during Dynamite."
There is not a person reading this unaware of the backstage fight between CM Punk and Jack Perry that evening, which led to Khan announcing that Punk was fired from his wrestler and consultant contracts "with cause." Khan later stated that he was never as much "in fear for his life" and safety for himself and others as he was that evening.
Sources in AEW have stated to PWInsider.com that the footage that will air will be security footage related to that incident.
Given that The Young Bucks are facing FTR at AEW Dynasty on 4/21 and wrestled FTR in London last year as well, one has to think all of this is going to be woven into the build for the St. Louis PPV - and could be the re-introduction of Jack Perry into AEW storylines. Perry has been working for New Japan Pro Wrestling of late.
CM Punk discussed the incident on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani last week, commenting, "Jack came back from his match. I was the next match. I'm sitting there. I got people with me...I'm not gonna say who they are, because I got a lot of friends who work there and I wish them all well. I don't want them to be punished because they're friends with me. I walk up to him and I'm just like, Jack Why do you insist on doing this dumb internet sh** like this on TV, and he's just if you got a problem about it, do something about it. I was just like, man, come on, man. I would f***ing kill you. What are we doing? And it just, it's like Chael [Sonnen] says, sometimes you just can't let them get close. I thought I was doing a responsible thing. I didn't punch anybody. I just choked somebody a little bit. Samoa Joe was there, told me to stop. Then I quit. I turned to Tony and I said, this place is a f***ing joke, man. You're a clown, I quit. I went to my room and then Joe and Jerry Lynn came and got me and they're like, Let's just go out there and kill it. Let's just, and I was just too fired up and I'm fired up now and I'm probably gonna regret, talking about all this shit, but that's what happened...No, that match is, I was just like, this is the last time I'm ever gonna wrestle Samoa Joe. You know what I mean? Yeah. This is my last match in this company. Okay. Yeah, I quit. I said, I f**kin quit."
