THE AMAZING RED VS. MUSTAFA ALI: 4/5 HOUSE OF GLORY x WRESTLING REVOLVER IN PHILLY REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2024-04-07 01:34:00

This show was on 4/5/2024 at 3:00 PM at the Trinity Center for Urban Life in  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Like other shows I am covering after they have completed, this will be a blog more than a recap.

Commentary is by Jason Soloman, Veda Scott, and JD.

Santana (House of Glory Champion) vs. Alex Shelley (Wreslting Reveloiver Champion)

To start with, the hard camera is oddly placed, and seems to be above and far away from the ring. They do have handhelds that are close to the ring. Shelly is a heel to this crowd and the commentary team says he wants to be a title collector and take the belts back to Iowa. Shelly starts the match by annoying Santana and then going into the ropes so that Santana can’t attack.

Shelly tries to avoid Santana until Santana is able to catch him in the ringside area when he beats down Shelly. Shelly is able to run Samata’s shoulder into the ring post and whenever Shelly gets a chance he attacks the shoulder. Shelly also goes after the knee that Santana was out for over a year to rehab. Santana, on the other hand, pushes power attacks.

Shelly’s stuff is crisp and he takes time to show off to the crowd when he does something big, while Santana just cares about hitting the next move to take down Shelly. We get a ref bump and Shelly sets to use the title, but Santana kicks him and gets a DDT followed by a clothesline and another ref jumps in the ring to count Santana’s pin.

Winner and now double champion: Santana

The Revolver referee revives and states that because he didn’t count the pin, Shelly is still the Revolver champion so Santana remains the House of Glory champion

The Rascalz (Zachary Wentz & Trey Miguel) vs. Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) vs. RED (Alex Colon & Rickey Shane Page) vs. Mane Event (Jay Lyon & Midas Black) House of Glory Tag Team Champions

This is another of the many multi-man matches I have seen this weekend, and for the most part it’s hard to follow as it’s a lot of people doing a lot of stuff at a rapid pace. These can be good in a car crash way, but if you don't know the people involved, it is just a lot of stuff going on and none of it makes any sort of impression.

I would imagine that it’s much more impressive in person, and I have to give it to the commentary team who are able to keep track of everyone involved and who is who, but even they don't call moves, just talk about each team. My only complaint as a watcher is that I wish they’d say it was a tornado match or something since the teams tagging in and out is done at random.

The dives they do are crazier than normal since the audience is so close to the ring that they go into the chairs every time. Lyon is able to pin Colon for the win.

Winners and still HOG Tag Team Champions: The Mane Event

Charles Mason hits the ring with a chair, takes out The Mane Event and a bunch of referees. There will be fines, there will be suspensions!  Lyon takes out Mason and before he can hit him with a chair, Mason hits a low blow and rips off his mask.

Mason goes to the back holding the mask high.

Carlos Ramirez (House of Glory Crown Jewel Champion) vs Manders

Manders has a Cowboy gimmick and the announcers put over that this is Ramierez’s first title defense after winning it at the end of a long feud. This is a hoss fight, and they keep comparing Manders to Stan Hanson.  It’s odd that no one in the major companies has a big old cowboy gimmick at this point.

They brawl all around the ring, in the ring and just beat the tar out of each other. Ramerez starts working over Manders's arm and hands as the match goes on. They have a long chopfest that ends with Ramirez is dropped across the top rope. After thai they move to big power moves and near falls. Rameriez grabs the ref when the ref makes him stop dragging Manders’s face on the top rope, and as he holds the ref, he gets a low blow on Manders. Then he hits a pump handle slam for the pin and the win.

Winner and still HOG Crown Jewel Champion: Carlos Ramirez

Mike Bailey vs Masha Slamovich

This is the 5th Mike Bailey match I have watched this weekend.

Bailey hits a brain buster right out of the gate. This is a hard striking hard kicking match between these two. They have been wrestling all over the country in the past so they know each other well.  They go to the floor and keep up the stiff attacks. They return to the ring and already move to near falls, and Bailey has been aggressive through the whole match, and Masha is on the defensive more often than not.

Masha goes on a tear with tons of kicks and strikes and then locks on a crossface that Bailey breaks with a rope grab. Masha then works him over before grabbing an abdominal stretch. Bailey pow3ers out and then he goes with big kicks and strikes. They move to near falls after huge moves and in the end, Masha gets the pin after a pile driver on the apron.

Winner: Masha Salmovitch

That was just a fantastic super stiff match that built to a great series of big moves and near falls.  Easily my favorite match of the show so far.

Philly Street Fight: Steve Maclin (w/ Killer Kelly) vs. Charles Mason

Mason comes to the ring in a suit with the mask he took earlier in the show. Kelly gets in the ring to yell at Mason and he spits in her face and that starts the match. Macklin immediately takes over and they brawl through the crowd and into the street. The feed becomes super choppy as they fight outside. After Macklin slams Mason into a van that is blocking off the street, they return to the building and back to the ring where Macklin grabs plunder from under the ring.

When they get in the ring, they do a good job of making Macklin seems like he really wants to hurt Mason with the chairs and other weapons. Mason is able to get a belt around Macklin’s neck and tries choking him out. Macklin is able to win with a spear while Mason is in the tree of woe and then hits a double underhook DDT for the pin and the win.

Winner: Steve Macklin

The commentary does a good job of filling us in on why these two hated each other, and the brawl didn’t have blood, so I liked it better than many street fights.  I also liked that it was a street fight where they fought in the street.

Scramble Match for the Wrestling Revolver Remix Championship: Gringo Loco (Champion) vs KC Navarro vs Nolo Kitano vs Rahim Royal vs Aigle Blanc vs Ace Austin vs Myron Reed

Another big multi man match, and they quickly move to two men in the ring fighting. They move to people getting a big move and then someone else coming into the ring. This is pretty much a pure spotfest, no story to speak of. Blanc gets a solid spotlight with some innovative moves. As Loco ie the champ, he has a lot of time in the ring doing power moves against the smaller, high flying guys.

In the end, Loco hits a spinning sit out powerbomb on Blanc from the second turnbuckle for the pin and the win.

Winner and still Remix Champion: Gringo Loco

Mustafa Ali vs Amazing Red

Before the bell, Ali puts his TNA X-Division on the line.

Fast paced start with a lot of wrist locks and escapes. Red is tossed to the floor and takes a seat in the front row. They then get a series of two counts and they do a lot of running the ropes and stopping for chops and strikes. Ali’s character is one that is an arrogant young warrior while Red is the confident veteran.

The match slows down and becomes more hold/counterhold. Their personalities show in how they set up and respond to moves.  This is some good storytelling.  The tide goes back and forth, and while neither is completely dominating, neither is being beaten down either. After a series of big moves, Red runs Ali into the turnbuckles and as both men are down, Ali is knocked silly and Red uses it as a chance to catch his breath. This leads to them throwing hands, first on their knees and then to their feet. This moves the match to a big move, a two count and is  followed by both men recovering from it. Ali gets out of a Code Red with a mule kick low blow. Ali then gets a 450 for the pin and the win.

Winner and still TNA X-Division Champion: Mustafa Ali

After the match, Ali grabs the mic and says he did what he had to do to keep his title. He then says Red is a living legend. He says he wants to thank the man who trained so many incredible wrestlers. The acoustics were terrible so it was hard to understand the speech Ali gave to put over Red.

Red says he won’t use the mic. Red says that at this point of his life he only wants to work in the ring with people he respects. He thanks Ali for the video he made for him. He congratulates Ali on winning the X-Division title and they shake hands.

A great main event well worth going out of your way to see.
