PROGRESS Wrestling: Chapter 165 – Freedom Walks Again

This show is from the The Auditorium at Penns Landing Caterers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Commentary by Jack Palmer and Rich Bocchini

Multi-Man Match: Simon Miller vs. Leon Slayer vs. Cody Chhun vs. Marcus Mathers vs Gringo Loco vs Kid Lykos II vs Tate Mayfairs

Mayfairs comes out with a mic and puts himself over. He mocks the crowd, makes fun of Dave Meltzer, and then his opponents.

Mayfairs is able to clear the ring and it then becomes one to one fights in the rings and someone takes a near fall, rolls out and someone else comes in. Matches like this are usually a spot fest and this one is no different. Lots of big moves, dives, leaps, Miller doing comedy versions of such moves, and Mayfairs as the arrogant heel of the match.

Lykos gets the win with a brain buster on Chhun for the pin.

Winner: Kid Lycos II

Ricky Knight Jr. (PROGRESS Atlas Championship) vs. YOICHI

This looks to be a hoss fight.

They lock up collar and elbow and then break. They lock up again and Knight forces them to the ropes. They lock up a third time and run the ropes and neither can move the other with shoulder tackles. Yoichi finally is able to knock Knight down and starts to work him over. Knight shoves Yoichi out of the ring and then hits a dive. He rolls Yoichi into the ring and delivers a chop. He sets for another and delivers a low blow instead.

Session Moth Martina & Gene Munny vs. BUSSY (Allie Katch & Effy)

So, they beat her down now. Martina gets a DDT on Effy and then tags in Munny. Munny cleans house. He tosses Effy into Allie and tags in Martina. They give Effy a double suplex and a double Russian leg sweep to Allie. Munny gets a coast to coast head butt to Effy’s swimsuit area for two. Effy is able to toss Munny into Martina’s double knees. Effy hits a Famouser on Martina, and then puts Munny on top. They hit Munny with the doomsday machine for the pin and the win.

A fun comedy match.  As Bussy leave the ring, they show that Danhausen is in the crowd.

Winner: Luke Jacobs

Rhio (Progress Women’s Champion) vs. Lana Austin

A reminder that this is not Riho from AEW, but Rhio, a British wrestler.

They lock up collar and elbow and break quickly. They lock up again and Rhio forces them to the rope and they break clean, but slowly. After a long sequence where Austin flips off Rhio, Rhio hits a shotgun drop kick and just beats her down. Austin rolls out of the ring. She trips Rhio, but Rhio recovers and hits a dive.

They brawl at ringside. When Austin rolls Rhio into the ring, she then goes and takes So Cal Val’s mic. She then gets in the ring and says she is going  to sing, and Rhio gets a surprise rollup for the two. Austin nails Rhio with the mic and starts to sing. Poorly.

Cheeky Little Buggers (Charles Crowley & Alexxis Falcon) World Tag Team Champions  vs. Sunshine Machine (TK Cooper & Chuck Mambo) vs. SAnitY (Axel Tischer & Big Damo)

You’ve got the speed of Sunshine, the power of Sanity, and the Buggers who are kind of a comedy team so this is a clash of styles.

Falcon and Mambo start with wrist and waistlocks as well as some comedy bits. Crowley gets the blind tag and then gets a two count on Falcon. Crowley gets a quick rollup for two. Buggers and Sunshine keep up with the silliness. Then Cooper and Crowley run the ropes with fast moves.

Crowley crawls to the wrong corner, and Damo tags himself in. He hits a Samoan drop of both members of Sunshine at once. He then runs Tischer back and forth into Sunshine in the corners. Tischer is tagged in and he and Damo work over Cooper with quick tags.  Mambo gets a tag and gets an arm drag on Damo before the double team Tischer. They cover Tischer and the Buggers break it up at two. Sanity goes back to work on Mambo.

Mambo is able to get a DDT and tags in Falcon, who gets slammed by Damo. Tischer then works over Falcon, slowly and with precision. Crowley yells at Tischer and tells him  to let him in to fight. Tischer keeps Falcon from tagging. Tischer misses and elbow. Falcon leaps and Tischer tries to hold her back, but she does finally get the tag and Crowley runs wild.

Damo tags in and Crowley hits him as well. Sanity rolls out of the ring and Crowley uses Falcon as a launch pad for a dive. Sunshine is in after tagging Damo and Falcon is able to fight them both off until they get a double head butt. They hit her with a double wheelbarrow suplex for two. Falcon rolls out of the ring, and Mambo climbs onto Cooper's shoulders, diving onto everyone at ringside and rolling Falcon in for the two count.

Sunshine sets for a double superkick, and Crowley gets in the ring to push Falcon out of the way and takes the kicks. Tischer tags in and stalks Falcon. Falcon lays in slaps and chops. Tischer spits on her and she gets a falcon arrow on him for two.  Damo tags in and it’s everyone in the ring. Crowley is suplexed into Falcon. They all brawl and Sanity is able to clear everyone but Crowley out and they work him over.

Mobon sneaks in the ring for a rollup and gets two. Sunshine hits a pair of dives off the top onto Damo in the middle of the ring for two. Sanity then dominates Sunshine and they hit Copper with a double team slam for the pin and the win.

Winners and NEW World Tag Team Champions: Sanity

Dereiss climbs down and they run the ropes, each hitting an attack until they are both on the mat.

Lykos kips up at 8 and calls for a superkick. Dereiss catches it and they trade rollups for two. Lykos gets the round the world roll for two. Dereiss gets a cutter and again, both men are down. Both kip up at 8 this time. They trade kicks and Dereiss gets an electric chair drop and follows with a drop kick and a blue thunder bomb for two.
