On today's Pat McAfee show, Paul Levesque made two interesting points.
When asked about the success of WWE today he said, “It’s all about telling good stories”. He added that if you tell good stories, people will come and support the product. It's something I have said for years now, the actual wrestling in the ring is the least important part of the business to a lot of fans. People care about storylines and the people in them. Once they care about those things, then they care why people are actually doing the match. There is another prominent booker who could learn from that.
When asked about talent he said that he used to know everything about everyone from everywhere. Now that he is the CCO, he doesn't have the time for that so he relies on people like William Regal to keep him updated on talent that's outside of WWE. He made a point of saying that just because someone can be a success elsewhere it doesn't mean that they will be a star in WWE. He referenced star college football players that don't make it in the NFL. He added that he wanted the guys that are in it for the grind, especially early in their careers when they are paying their dues and making their name. If they are saying they want to go elsewhere because they don’t have to work as much or have a better schedule, he's glad that WWE didn’t get them because that’s not really who WWE wants. They want the ones who are fully committed to the business.
