PAUL LONDON VS. SPEEDBALL BAILEY & MORE: 4/3 LABOR OF LOVE & SEAN HENDERSON PRESENTS WRESTLEJAWN REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2024-04-05 02:29:00

4-3-2024 Labor of Love & Sean Henderson Presents: WrestleJawn

This show was on 4/3/2024 at 5 pm at the 5:00 PM Attic Brewing Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The commentary team is Mike Rotch (no, really, that’s the name he gave) and Veda Scott. And the show is basically in a tent outside the Brewing Company.

This will be a blog for the show rather than a play by play so I can cover more shows!

Mike Bailey vs Paul London

The THIRD Mike Bailey match I have seen this weekend.

The ring announcer is dressed as a Hot Dog, so I don’t expect this show to be a serious affair.

London comes to the ring and sings along with his music, the theme song to the James Bond movie Thunderball in the ring. Badly. Bailey asks if it is pro wrestling or karaoke, and he says they should make it both. London isn’t a fan of this and attacks Bailey. The storm that is going on outside the building is causing minor technical difficulties.

There are no chairs so everyone is just around the ring and crowding the ringside area when they brawl on the floor. Londonkeeps going to trash cans to use them on Bailey, but since they are empty, he doesn’t use them. They return to the ring and London works over Bailey. The first big move was London getting a hurricanrana from the top. After this, Bailey starts a comeback, but London cuts him off.

Bailey is able to turn the tables, gets a shooting star and after a two count, The crowd chants for him. London works a figure four and they work it for a while until Bailey gets to the ropes. London gets a mic during the figure four and sings until Bailey reverses the hold and they go into the ropes. Bailey gets a figure four of his own and grabs the mic. Bailey sings American Pie and keeps the figure four on.

Bailey breaks the hold and the crowd sings along with Bailey. They get tangled in the microphone cord and go back to wrestling and near falls. Bailey finally hits the Ultima Weapon for the pin and the win.

Winner: Mike Bailey

A silly match to get things started.

Scott Holiday and Joey T take over commentary.

Curt Robinson, Harleen Lopez, Logan Black, and Vita Von Star vs Big Callix, The Crusher, Duncan Sleem, and Shea McCoy

It starts with everyone brawling in the ring and as they get tossed from the ring they brawl in the crowd. Eventually Crusher is alone with the members of the other team and they work her over. The referee takes control, but as the teams leave the ring, they keep brawling on the outside as two people wrestle in the ring. They switch out pairs rapidly so that everyone gets a chance to be in the ring. The last main pair are the two biggest guys and they only do a couple of moves before other people are tagged in, so much for a good old hoss fight.

They then move to multiple people in the ring getting different series of attacks on their opponents. Lopex actually gets a slam on Callix, who has to be four times her size. The end of the match is missed by the commentary teams when Robinson gets an electric chair on Sleem for the pin and the win, and they thought it was two.

Winners: Curt Robinson, Harleen Lopez, Logan Black, and Vita Von Star

An 8 person tag is always going to just be chaos and that is what this match was.

Mike Rotch and Scott Holiday are now on commentary.

Bobby Orlando vs. LJ Cleary

Orlando has a stuffed animal goat on his back as he comes to the ring.

Orlando has a gimmick where he acts a lot like the old Eugene from WWE and Cleary’s gimmick is that he thinks he is gorgeous. They start by trying to impress each other with moves like Kip ups. They then move to a comedy match with Orlando being amazed by Cleary’s moves.

After a series of sequences where Orlando just marvels at Cleary’s stuff, they move to near falls with a rapid pace. Cleary finally wins with a Venus De Milo into a pin for the win.

Winner; LJ Cleary

After the match, Cleary hugs the stuffed animal and hands it back to Orlando.

Commentary is turned over to Mike Rotch and Joey T.

Junior Benito, Macrae Martin, Jayden Newman vs. The Chad, Sean Henderson, Jimmy Lloyd

This is a serious match and they follow a fairly normal structure with each person tagging out when they get some offense so that everyone gets time in the ring. After that sequence, Chad is the babyface in peril as they keep him in the ring with quick tags. Henderson gets to be run wild once Chad tags in, and the tag team siren quickly goes off with everyone fighting in the ring until they get to where each person gets a finisher on the last person to come into the ring.

Lloyd and Henderson get on top of Newman after Benito and Martin get Destroyers from Chad and Henderon.

Winners: The Chad, Sean Henderson, Jimmy Lloyd

They have an intermission after this match.

Joey T and Scott Holiday are the commentary team of the next match.

The Colony (Electro Ant, Worker Ant, Ultimo Ant) vs. Xyberhax (Danjerhawk, Razerhawk, Thvnderhawk)

All of the wrestlers are in full body suits with full helmets/masks. They all start with basic grappling with waistlocks, running the ropes, and arm bars. The commentary team lets us know that the Colony wants to keep the Hax from hitting their high flying moves, which they do. After everyone gets their turn in the ring, the tag team siren goes off and everyone is in the ring, throwing hands.

After the Hax can’t do a coordinated dive, it goes back to one on one in the ring and back to standard wrestling moves. They then switch to multiman moves with lots of double and triple teaming. The Colony gets the Ant Hill which is a triple team move, but the Hax break it up. The Hax then hit an impressive move where one gets on the top turnbuckle and another gets on his shoulders for a big splash for two.

They then start getting near falls with more multiman moves. In the end, Electro Ant tries to cheat by pinning with his feet on the ropes and Worker breaks up the pin for his own team because he doesn’t want to cheat to win. The Hax get a triple superkick on Electro and Worker holds back Ultimo and the Hax get the pin and the win.

Winners: Xyberhax

After the match everyone but Ultimo shakes hands, and Ultimo argues with them and walks out alone as the other five workers raise hands in the ring.

Labor of Love Citywide Title #1 Contender Scramble: Dan Champion vs. Deklan Grant vs. Dr. Ethan Wilde vs. Eli Isom vs. Gabby Ortiz vs. Jay Stynes vs. Kennedi Copeland vs. Ryan Radix

A John Cena standee was brought to the ring by Isom, and it is the first one tossed out over the top. The commentary team says he will come back at the end of the match to pin everyone and win, which made me laugh.

This is a pure spot fest as two men work in the ring and everyone else brawls around through the crowd. We do see that Champion buys a beer and chugs it while the match is going on. The rest of the match is two people in the ring, someone getting a near fall and that person who kicks out rolling to the floor as someone else gets in the ring. Champion gets the big spot diving onto everyone at ringside. After this we get all six people in the ring and big flying spots from the smaller guys.

They quickly go back to one on one in the ring. A cameraman gets taken out by one of the dives and in the end, Champion hits a TKO on Jay Stynes for the pin and the win.

Winner and Number One Contender: Dan Champion

They push in a board with plastic spoons and forks on it.

Colby Corino vs. Clint Magera

They also bring in plastic tubs, and other stuff so it's not a death match but a harm match?

They start with trying to run each other into the plastic forks and spoon and they just start brawling. They then start using plastic forks and spoons on each other. Margea dominates as they move into the “weapons” part of the match. Corino is body slammed onto one of the plastic tubs.  It does break apart and he sells it like he was slammed through a plate of glass.

Oh, and the board the spoons and forks are stuck into are styrofoam.  They fly apart at the slightest touch. Corino finally wins by driving Magera into the styrofoam for the pin and the win.

Winner: Colby Corino

As someone who has covered too many death matches, this match made me laugh.

It’s time for the main event.

Labor of Love Citywide Championship: Cheeseburger vs. Weber Hatfield

This is the match to determine who will be the first champion.

They start with hold/counter hold work and mat wrestling. They show a lot of variations of an arm bar and then have a series of quick back and forth near falls. Weber then gets a series of high flying moves that Cheeseburger has to withstand.  When Cheeseburger takes over, he uses more strikes and mat work.

When Weber is running things, the match moves at a faster pace and he goes for bigger, flashier moves.  It’s a great contrast in styles, and Cheeseburger’s stuff moves to joint manipulation and strikes. For all fo the silliness the show has had, and that is not a bad thing, thai match is seriously worked and shows both men off well.

They do the spot where they throw hands in the middle of the ring back and forth and the crowd is clearly for Burger. This moves to near falls by this time, the crowd is also chanting for Weber. Burger starts hitting finishers and Weber keeps kicking out until Burger gets a J Driller for the pin and the win.

Winner and NEW Citywide Champion: Cheeseburger

After the match, they show each other respect.

Dan Champion gets into the ring after Webner leaves. He raises Burger’s hand and holds the ropes open for him.

This was a fun show. Lots of silliness, some solid wrestling and a fast pace.  It’s worth checking out and available on IWTV.
