Victor Benjamin KO’s Akira Way via spinning head kick after suplexing his opponent out of the ring. The GCW-centric crowd was UNHAPPY about that.
Nic Nemeth KO’s Speedball Mike Bailey with a ZigZag after the ref breaks them up at the post. The crowd is also unhappy about this but they have more respect for Nemeth’s situational awareness.
Lindsay Snow taps out Lady Frost with a quick knee bar. Frost absolutely brought the aggression but Lindsay is the defending women’s tournament champion and she’s going to the finals.
Marina Shafir taps out Janai Kai with a front choke after a judo toss. Janai was explosive as hell and almost ended it several times but Marina patiently endured and took her shot as soon as it presented.
Charlie Dempsey taps out Matt Makowski (w/ Tracy Williams) with a double wristlock after a hell of an aggressive technical contest. Great near KO’s towards the end as Dempsey, the son of Williams Regal, absolutely impressed in this debut.
Takuya Nomura puts Fuminori Abe to sleep with a hangman’s choke. Nomura got busted open on a wicked headbutt exchange. He used a headbutt to escape a heel hook and got the choke on for the win. Crowd loved this.
Erik Hammer taps out Lou Nixon with a double wristlock. Hard back and forth but Hammer extends his winning streak at Bloodsport to 5-0.
Minoru Suzuki KO’s Royce Isaacs with a Gotch piledriver after MOSTLY putting him to sleep with a rear naked choke. Royce and Suzuki were throwing fingers back and forth and just going for it. Murder Grandpa (and our new cutest princess) was smiling SO MUCH through this. Awesome.
Timothy Thatcher taps out Axel Tischer (formerly Alexander Wolfe) with a quick fujiwara armbar. Thatcher was on the ropes for a lot of this. Hard hitting contest but Thatcher with the slick win.
Shayna Bayzler (w/ Zoey Stark) beats Masha Slamovich (w/ Jordynne Grace) by ref stoppage. Masha was all over Shayna. The submission magician was on full display but Masha almost got her several times. Masha tries to kick off an ankle lock and Shayna’s just stomps her head into the mat until the ref stops it. Like the opener, the crowd was NOT happy about this result.
Intrepid the Bloodsport Women’s tournament finals, Marina Shafir KO’s Lindsay Snow with a head kick that sends her flying out of the ring. Lindsay popped back up and got back into the ring but clearly no one was home and the ref calls the stoppage. Shafir definitely had to work hard for this tournament victory, dethroning a wickedly smiling American Kaiju.
Josh Barnett KO’s Johnny Bloodsport (Hennigan) with a pair of gutwrench suplexes and a sick spinning heel kick. This finishing sequence was all I wanted from the fight. Unfortunately, there were several tiresome minutes before it. Respect to Barnett, this is his named show…but so many better stories on the card before this.
Barnett takes the mic after the win. They are going big. Bloodsport returns on June 22 in Tokyo! Suzuki! Sakuraba! Rampage Jackson?!? Bloodsport: Bushido is coming to Sumo Hall!
