While there are some in WWE that expect John Cena will be in town for Wrestlemania this weekend (PWInsider.com has NOT confirmed CeMen seen in town yet), he will be off the board for anything major in the ohysical WWE realm for most of the remainder of 2024.
Cena will be filming the second season of the DC Series Peacemaker from June through November in the Atlanta area, with the current shooting schedule slated to end around Thanksgiving, PWInsider.com can exclusively confirm.
The first season starred Cena with James Gunn, the writer and director of DC's The Suicide Squad returning to write and direct the series. The series explored Peacemaker's background and what happens to him after being introduced in Suicide Squad while also attempting to prevent an alien invasion. Gunn has since taken over DC Studios for WBD and is currently directing the next Superman film. He had previously intimated Peacemaker would film at the same time as the Superman film, which will be released theatrically.
At the time, Cena described his take on Peacemaker as a "douchey Captain America." Cena's portrayal of Peacemaker was the first ever live action incarnation of the character, a soldier and super-hero who loves peace so much he is willing to kill anyone, including innocents, for it. The character was originally created by the now-defunct Charlton Comics but acquired by DC in the mid-80s, mostly as a gift for the legendary Dick Giordano, who had worked on the characters before his incredible run for DC. The character was the inspiration for Watchmen's The Comedian as well.
The first season of Peacemaker was a massive hit for DC and Max.
