ALEX SHELLEY VS. ACE AUSTIN, RICH SWANN VS. MUSTAFA ALI FOR THE FIRST TIME & MORE: 3/28 WRESTLING REVOLVER REPORT

By David Houston on 2024-03-30 11:56:00

Wrestling REVOLVER was already back on TrillerTV, less than 2 weeks after Ready or Not in Clive, Iowa, this time in their home base of Dayton, Ohio at the Calumet Center with "Grit Your Teeth".

Bork Torkelson and Phoenix Nitro on commentary, doing a lot of screaming with "Drama King" Matthew Rehwoldt joining after intermission.

"Firestarter" Jake Crist (with His Boy, Bobby) fell to Matthew Palmer (accompanied by REVOLVER champion Alex Shelley) in the opener.  This started hot with Crist fighting both men before the bell.  Shelley got involved and was thrown out by the ref (REVOLVER has rules??).  Palmer wins the battle of former REVOLVER champions with a piledriver.  After the match, Palmer and Shelley attack Crist and Bobby, tossing Crist from the ring and Pillmanizing Bobby's knee.  Very hot start to the show. Good match, hot heel angle.

Gringo Loco successfully defended his Remix title in a 5 Way Scramble match over the "Main Event Monster" Fulton (with "Drama King" Matthew Rehwoldt), Damien Chambers (with Kayla Cassidy), Matthew Justice, and the debuting Brandon Lee.  This was billed as a match up of contrasting styles with a pair of high flyers (Loco, Lee), a brawler (Justice), a pure heel (Chambers), and a monster (Fulton) and it lived up to it as each guy got to show off a bit.  Finally Loco got Lee to himself and took him out with his top rope powerbomb.  Exciting match.

Havok, who recently turned on her own husband to join the heel group, The Unit, faced Ring of Honor star Billie Starkz.  Havok took some time before the match to bury JT Davidson, the former manager of her husband Sami Callihan (owner of REVOLVER and who she turned on to join the Unit).  Nice match with Havok overpowering a game Starkz for most of the match.  Finish was kinda eh with Phil Stamper, former manager of the Unit and now REVOLVER EVP (heh) distracted her and cost her the match.

Really good Steet Fight in the long running feud with the Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson) getting a win over the Rascalz, this time Trey Miguel and Myron Reed, who was filling in for Zachary Wentz, who had travel issues.  I'm not a big fan of brawling all over the arena and they even lost the camera crew for a second so even us at home lost the action (booo!).  Once they got back to the ring/ringside area they had a great brawl.  GYV got the win, double kicking Reed low and hitting their double Codebreaker Grit Your Teeth finish  Best thing on the show so far.

They return from intermission with the upstart Alpha Sigma Sigma (Brent Oakley, KC Jacobs and the Pledge) get the biggest wins of their careers with Oakley and Jacobs getting a win over the RED (Riches Equal Death) team veterans Rickey Shane Page and Alex Colon (with Killer Kelly).  It was one way traffic for most of the match but the Alphas made a strong comeback with Oakley pinning Colon with a standing senton after Colon took a Destroyer piledriver from Jacobs  RED immediately jumped the Alphas after the match, humiliating them with Kelly smearing red makeup on their faces and Page bloodying Oakly with a spike. Welcome to the big time, kids.   Loved the final shot of this being Oakley getting up and being furious at being busted open and beaten down like that. Alpha Sigma Sigma might have a future as babyfaces.

The 1 Called Manders got a measure of revenge on his former Second Gear Crew mate, Mance Warner, defeating him in a Grudge match, spinning out of Warner turning on Manders at Ready or Not.  Another good brawl but more of a big man brawl than the previous tag team Street Fight.  Still a SGC match with chairs and doors thrown in.  Warner went for his signature running knee smash with Manders ducking it and rolling up Warner for the victory.  Warner didnt take it lying down and went at Manders with the remains of a door until the third member of SGC, Mattew Justice, ran out to break it up. High tension but Warner left.

Winning their first ever match, TNA X Division champion Mustapha Ali defeated former REVOLVER champion--and a former X Division champion--"All Night Long" Rich Swann in a non title encounter.  Swann came out with a different swagger to him, maybe not fully heel but definitely maintaining his new look since allying with AJ Francis in TNA last week on their TV. I appreciate the continuity.  Fast and furious match. Swann tucked Ali's head as if going for a piledriver or a Razor's Edge with Ali spinning and rolling him up for the win.  Ali went to show Swann respect after the match but Swann kicked his hand away and stormed off. I liked that.

REVOLVER champion Alex Shelley (with Palmer ringside) successfully retained his championship over "The Inevitable" Ace Austin (with "Mean" Gia Miller, going for maximum cheekage) in the main event.  Good match with Shelley being the vicious technician, working Austin's arm and Ace fighting from underneath.  Finish was a bit busy with a ref bump and both Palmer and Miller getting involved. A second referee comes in and tries to restore order but when he was out of commission, Rich Swann--who Shelley and Palmer had been recruiting recently--ran in and smashed Austin in the face with the title belt, allowing Shelley to get the pin.

A good show that had a lot of action but still found a way to not be too much, something that can happen on REVOLVER shows.

Still way too much profanity on hot mics for my taste but it's who they are.
