WOMEN'S STREET FIGHT AND MORE: AEW RAMPAGE COVERAGE

By Mike Johnson on 2024-03-20 22:06:00

Welcome to the AEW Rampage report!

I am filling in for Cory Strode this week so he and Anthony Pires can record the AEW Dynamite Post Show Party and go to sleep at a Godly hour!  Cory will return next week.

The show opened with the finish of Adam Copeland vs. Christian Cage in an I Quit match with Copeland winning the belt.  They shot a ton of confetti into the air.

They then went to a promo from "earlier today" with Jay White and The Gunns poolside.  They had a skeleton decorated with a sign that said Mt. Everest to mock Darby Allin.  White had dyed Sting's bat gold and mocked Darby, The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn.  They mocked Darby by acting as if "Darby" was doing some big stunt but it was the skeleton going down a slide into the pool and floating.

The Acclaimed were introduced by Renee Paquette on stage.  They said Billy Gunn wasn't even cleared to travel after last week.  Max Caster said he was offering Jay a ticket to anywhere in the world to get away but he knows he's not going to take it.  Bowens said White should have listened to the Internet and signed somewhere else.  All he's done since coming to AEW is lose and he's a coward and they are going to beat his ass silly.  They said they never needed Jay because the fans are all they ever needed to be their gang.  Good promo.

Best Friends vs. Don Callis Family's Powerhouse Hobbs and ROH TV Champion Kyle Fletcher - AEW Tag Team Championship Tournament

Hobbs looked like a monster early, manhandling Cassidy including catching him on a dive and beating him.  Hobbs missed a splash in the corner when Cassidy ducked and fell over the ropes to the floor.  Beretta nailed Fletcher with knee strikes and sent him to the floor as well.  Beretta dove off the top onto both, taking them out.  The Callis Family regained control as they went to commercial.

When they returned, Beretta caught Fletcher with a tornado DDT and made the hot tag to Cassidy.  He cleaned house and turned a tiltowhirl move by Fletcher into a DDT.  Hobbs broke up the pinfall.  Hobbs wrecked Cassidy with a right hand and locked on a Torture Rack.  Fletcher tried to prevent Beretta from intefering but failed and Beretta interceded.  Cassidy nailed a series of kicks on Hobbs but was caught and smashed down.    The Best Friends took control on Fletcher and hugged but Hobbs ran through them like a monster.  Hobbs has been in the zone here.

On the floor, Hobbs flung Cassidy into one of the LED boards outside the ring but Cassidy turned him over into the Beach Break with Beretta coming off the apron with a double stomp on the floor.  Cassidy and Fletcher battled.  Fletcher ended up with a bloody lip.  They battled to the top, where Beretta attacked and nailed a half and half superplex.  Cassidy nailed a leaping DDT and the Orange Punch for the pin as Beretta nailed a dive to the floor on Hobbs.

Your winners, advancing, The Best Friends!

Good match with solid action.  Hobbs was the MVP here and unless something stupid happens, that dude is a future AEW World Champ.

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Kevin Matthews

Matthews pounded KM into the corner and nailed a corner dropkick.  He took him down but Matthews kicked out.  Matthews was nailed with strikes and came back with lariat.  He went for a DVDR but Shibata slipped behind caught him with a sleeper.  Matthews went down and nailed a running knee to the face.

Your winner, Katsuyori Shibata!

They show Adam Copeland and friends randomly sitting backstage celebrating his title victory.

Konosuke Takeshita vs. Rocky Romero

They battled back and forth.  The action was good.  Romero nailed a series of tope suicidas to the floor but on the third, Takeshita caught him and tried to suplex him.  Romero escaped and landed on his feet.  He tried to nail Romero but hit the ring post.  Romero nailed another dive.  Romero, in the ring, nailed Sliced Bread #2 for a two count.  Romero attacked the arm and cinched in a cross arm breaker.  Don Callis climbed up onto the apron, which led to Romero releasing the hold.  Takeshita attacked him with a charging kick.  Romero battled back but was caught with an inverted package piledriver and a Blue Thunder Bomb.  Romero kicked out.  Romero escaped a move and used a backslide for a two count.  Takeshita nailed an enziguiri and a lariat that spun Romero inside out.  He nailed the rolling elbow and a Falcon Arrow for the pin.

Your winner, Konosuke Takeshita!

Good action.Sky

Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale with Stokely Hathaway vs. Skye Blue and AEW TBS Champion Julia Hart in a Street Fight.

Willow and Kris came out brandishing chairs.  Blue and Hart with Singapore Canes.  They all batled on the floor.  Hart was wedged through an open chair.    Willow kicked her in the head and then dropkicked the chair with Hart still trapped inside.  Willow pulled a table out.    It was set up in the corner but Skye attacked Kris.  Hart brought a spike into the ring but accidentally nailed Skkype with it.  Kris went to suplex her through the table but Hart escaped and locked on a sleeper, crawling up on her back.  Kris charged and jumped through the table, smashing Hart through it.  Blue went to return to the ring but Willow attacked her on the floor.  She slammed Blue's face into the ring steps.

Willow and Kris set up a table out on the floor, then set up another.   They beat Blue with the cane and tossed her into the ring, where a bunch of chairs had been tossed in.  Willow nailed Blue with a chair.  Hart attacked Kris on the floor with the cane and choked her with it.   Willow nailed a cannonball in the corner on Blue with a chair for a two count.  The battle kept going with all four battling in the ring with chairs and canes.   Statlander nailed a knee strike in the corner on Hart.  Blue was bleeding.  Blue and Willow battled on the announce table. Skye avoided a Doctor Bomb and nailed Code Blue, but the table didn't break.

Blue poured thumb tacks in the ring.  Kris pulled out her own bag and poured more.  They battled to the top, where Blue slid under and hit a powerbomb into the tacks for a two count.  Blue poured them into Kris' mouth and kicked her but Statlander still kicked out.  The crowd chanted, "You sick f***."    Willow returned and hit  DVDR off the apron through the tables on the floor.  Hart and Statlander battled.  Kris backdropped her onto a pile of chairs. She went for a 450 splash off the top but landed on a chair when Hart moved.  Hart locked her in a submission and Statlander tapped.

Your winners, Skye Blue and AEW TBS Champion Julia Hart!
