It is Wednesday and this week Dynamite is at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, ON. The commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Taz, and Excalibur.
Tony Schiavone is in the ring to start the show and he says everyone wants to see Mercedes Mone. So, she comes out to the ring. She says that 10 months ago she nearly had a career ending injury while working for New Japan. She then asks the truck to play a video she made to introduce herself. It has footage of her in New Japan, working the red carpet and modeling catwalks. She now says she is in AEW for a major comeback.
She then says she is in AEW for a global revolution. When she is done, the lights go out and when they are back on, Julia Hart is on the ramp, and Sky Blue attacks from behind. She takes out Blue, and starts an attack on Hart, but Blue saves her and they go under the ring for chairs. Before they get in the ring, Statlander and Willow Nightingale come to the ring with chairs to keep them back.
And the lights go out again. When they come back on, Hart and Blue are gone. Willow is behind Money with a chair, but drops it when Money turns to look.
We then go to Alex Marvez who wants to get a word with Kazuchika Okada, and the Young Bucks and Okada show up and they tell him to show respect by talking to Okada in Japanese. The Bucks say they can’t be at ringside, but they will be the producers for the match. Okada cuts a promo in Japanese, and then says in English he is coming for Eddie Kingston’s title.
Eddie Kingston (AEW Triple Crown Champion) vs Kazuchika Okada
They have a nice bit where Renee Paquette is near the ramp and gives information about Eddie’s mindset before he comes to the ring, which reminds me a lot of the sideline reporter on NFL games.
Okada starts with his bit about whipping someone into the ropes and making it look like he will attack, and instead he just pats the person on the chest. Eddie, however, attacks. This is Okada’s first solo match of his current run, so Eddie is a good person to help him deal with a US TV match being shorter and more highlight based.
We then get the Bucks backstage calling camera angles as Tony Khan looks irritated. After the commercial break, Eddie starts getting shops and Okada is having trouble keeping up, so Eddie presses the advantage. Okada is able to take over with Big movesThe shoulder breaker Okada hits looked brutal. Okada misses a leap front he top and Eddie dodges and gets the backfist for two.
As they move to near falls, Okada sells Eddie’s chops, making him look strong asd they throw hands. Okada is able to finally hit the Rainmaker clothesline for the pin and the win.
Winner and NEW AEW Triple Crown Champion: Kazuchika Okada
We then hear the music for PAC. He comes out onto the stage and glares at Okada before going back backstage.
Renee is backstage with Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana. Swerve says when he came after Joe with a chain, his objective was to win the AEW World title and his plans for tonight are to spar with someone so he issues an open challenge.
Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander talk about their street fight later tonight. Mone shows and Kris thanks her for helping Willow, and Mone says that’s what a CEO does. Willow goes to thank Mone, and she blows her off. Stokely then tries to introduce himself and gets ignored.
Hook vs Chris Jericho
Jericho is still using the Lionheart music and entrance.
Hook hits a t-bone suplex immediately and they push that Jericho got his bell rung. After a long pause where the ref checks on him, Jericho says he is OK and then goes after him with blows and hits another T-Bone. Hook just goes after Jericho with suplexes and Jericho is selling the head as they go to the commercial break. We come back and the story is the Hook is hitting suplexes and it’s really hurting Jericho.
Jericho sells the head even when he hits his own big moves. Hook locks on Redrum in the ropes and Jericho walks it out to the middle of the ring and then breaks the grip when they are on the mat. Hook is able to get a series of blows to the head and then rolls up Jericho for the pin and the win.
Winner: Hook
Interesting match. Not just for Hook winning, but for Jericho selling an injured head through the match.
In the library, Adam Cole says he is disappointed in Wardlow for losing the match against Samoa Joe for the AEW World title last week. He then says that his job is now to make sure the Undisputed Kingdom keeps their titles. He says he wants Wardlow to reach is potential, so he had better not screw it up.
After the match, Renee asks Jericho about the match, and Jericho says Hook showed him something and he’s a future champion. Next week, he has a proposition for Hook.
Tony Shciavone is in the ring again and he’s going to talk to Will Ospreay. Will says the last time he was here, he was a naughty boy but he’s changed. He apologizes to Canada. Him as a babyface is a great way to bring him in, and I’ll be interested how the separate him from Don Callis.
He puts over Bryan Danielson’s match but talks about how Bryan’s speech afterward made him laugh. He then puts over all of the different accolades he earned in Japan, and says it is where Bryan desperately wanted to be a star. He then challenges Katsuyori Shibata, and while Shibata beat him back when he was 23, but he’s 30 now and he will show how good he is.
We then get a video to hype the match between Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.
Toni Storm and Deonna Purrozza vs Toni Storm and Mariah May
Everyone starts with brawling, and as May and Purrazzo fight in the ring, Storm and Rosa brawl at ringside for a bit. The announcers go over how Rosa had to give up the title due to injury, but wasn’t beaten for it. Unlike a lot of Storm’s matches, Storm isn’t doing a lot of character work, and is instead wrestling pretty straight through the first part of the match.
Rosa gets a blind tag and Purrazzo is unhappy about it which allows Rosa and May to take over. However, after Storm gets the hip attack, Rosa reverses the pin with a jacknife pin for the win.
Winners:Toni Storm and Deonna Purrozza
Rosa and Purrazzo have words after the match.
Swerve Strickland vs Butcher
Swerve says he wanted someone big. This is essentially a showcase for Swerve to show his moves against a big guy to make him credible against Samoa Joe. Butcher gets some offense in the middle of the match, but Swerve takes back over to show his big moves. He hits House Call and then the Stomp. Swerve then locks on a short on scissor and Butcher has to tap out.
Winner: Swerve Strickland.
Swerve cuts a promo about who he is getting close to hating Joe, and how he wants to use his chain to choke Joe out. He says no matter how many security guards Joe sends out, he will take them allo out until he gets what he wants.
Business Suit Samoa Joe comes to the ramp. He says he should ignore Swerve because he beat him already, but Swerve still thinks if he stands toe to toe with Joe he can box with a God. This means normal people think they can do it until someone like him takes everything he has. Joe then says he will give Swerve what he wants, and starts to the ring.
But Don Callis shows up and complains about Swerve putting himself in a world title match, but Swerve and Konosuke Takeshita have the same amount of wins, but Takeshita is undefeated, so Swerve needs to learn what it is like to lose the family.
Swerve says he accepts and when he wins, he will be coming for Joe.
Christian Cage (TNT Champion) vs Adam Copeland I Quit match
The crowd sings Adam’s music until Cage’s music hits. Cage comes to the ring alone
Adam runs wild at the start of the match and they don’t take much time before going into the crowd. They fight in the hockey penalty box input on team rival jerseys and start a hockey fight. After a commercial break, Adam pulls out a ladder and the crowd is chanting TLC. The ladder is set up between announcer's tables and they fight on and around the ladder.
Adam sets up the ladder upside down in the ring and then drops Cage on the middle supports. Taz reminds us that it is yam bag city instead of yam bag jones. Adam then sets up a table against the barricade. Cage dodges a charge and then shoves Adam into the ring post. Cage then comes off the top and puts Adam through the table. Adam is now busted open.
Adam is then catapulted into the ladder in the corner, and the ref is now asking if someone quits after each big move. After the next commercial break, Adam is stalking Cage. Mother Wauyne comes out from the back with a hockey stick and gets a low blow. Cage then breaks the hockey stick over Adam and rolls him into the ring.
Cage then pulls out a barbed wire wrapped chair to set up for the con-chair-to.
Adam moves out of the way and tries to use the barbed wire chair. Adam then pulls the drawstring out of his tights and chokes Cage with it. This draws in Nick Wayne and Killswitch. Mother Wayne comes to the ring and gives Adam a slap.
Matt Menard and Daniel Garcia hit the ring to even the odds. Adam comes off a ladder onto Cage’s group on the floor. Killswitch is handcuffed to the corner. Nick is handcuffed to another corner and when they show Mother Wayne the cuffs, she runs to the back. They then cuff Cage to the ring and Adam pulls out the baseball bat loaded with nails called Spike.
Adam then kicks Cage repeatedly in the yam bag. Cage takes out Spike and nails Cage in the yam bag with it. Adam goes to nail him in the head and Cage gives up.
Winner and NEW TNT Champion: Adam Copeland.
