3/20 NEW JAPAN CUP FINAL REPORT FROM NIIGATA, JAPAN

1 - Shoma Kato and Katsuya Murashima vs. BUSHI and Hiromu Takahashi

BUSHI forces Murashima to tap out to a Boston Crab.

2 - Tomohiro Ishii, Tanga Loa and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Great O-Khan, TJP and Francesco Akira

Catch 22 hits 2X2 on Taguchi.

Akira pins Taguchi.

3 - Zack Sabre Jr and Mikey Nicholls vs. Jeff Cobb and Callum Newman

Nicholls pins Newman after a Master Blaster.

4 -  YOSHI-HASHI, Togi Makabe and Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Gabe Kidd, Chase Owens and KENTA

KENTA hits Tenzan with the IWGP Tag belt.   Owens pins Tenzan.  

KENTA and Owens tries to attack YOSHI-HASHI but he fights off Bullet Club.  

They are teasing YOSHI-HASHI challenging for the IWGP Tag Titles.  With his partner being Hirooki Goto, they may be foreshadowing Tsuji's win later.  

5 - Shota Umino, Yuji Nagata and El Desperado vs. Ren Narita, Jack Perry and Yujiro Takahashi

Nagata's appearance popped this crowd. 

Narita hit a low blow on Nagata and trapped him in a Cobra Twist.

Nagata taps out.

Jack Perry has integrated well with House of Torture.  He has followed their lead and been acting like a dastardly heel, not a violent potty mouth, but a sneaky and tricky heel.  

After the match, Umino issued a challenge to House of Torture at Sakura Genesis on April 6.   He will teach them a lesson but did not explain what that would be.

6 - YOH vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru

Unusual singles match.  YOH stole SHO's belt and Kanemaru would fight YOH to get it back.

As YOH comes to the ring, SHO attacks YOH and takes his belt back.  YOH and Kanemaru begin the match in the ring but it becomes a 2 on 1 match.  

YOH pins Kanemaru with an O'Conner Roll.   

YOH steals the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Belt again and SHO is pissed off.  

7 - Hikuleo, El Phantasmo, Toru Yano, Jado and Boltin Oleg vs. Taichi, Yuya Uemura, DOUKI, TAKA Michinoku and SANADA

ELP pins TAKA after a Super Thunderkiss 86.

8 - Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito vs. Dick Togo and EVIL

Both teams brawled to the floor and into the crowd.  They get counted out, but Takagi demands the match be restarted.   Togo and EVIL pull out all their tricks.   Naito low blows Togo and rolls him up in a Jackknife pin.

They continue to fight after the match.  Takagi get the mic and challenges EVIL for the NEVER Openweight Championship.   Another match for the undercard for Sakura Genesis is now set up.

Naito joins the Japanese commentary team.

New Japan Cup 2024 Finals:

9 - Hirooki Goto vs. Yota Tsuji

Both men had a technical wrestling match at the start.   Tsuji hits a tope suicida, sending Goto into the guardrails.   Tsuji hammers him with chops and traps him in a leg vice around the ribs.  Goto screams and gets to the ropes.  Tsuji kicks Goto in a mocking way.   Pace picks up.  Tsuji with a shoulder attack and a splash.  Two count.  They exchange counters.  Tsuji hits a superkick.  Goto with an ushigaroshi.  Crowd chants for "YOTA".  

They trade strikes.   Goto hits a reverse GTR, then follows with a GTW.  Two count.   Tsuji with a Falcon Arrow.  Two count.  Tsuji hits a curb stomp, but he does not go for the pin.  Tsuji hits a double jump crub stomp.  Two count.  Goto grabs a sleeper.  Tsuji is fading then tries to power out.  Goto hits a penalty kick.  Goto goes for a GTR but Tsuji hits a headbutt.  Goto hits his own headbutt.  He throws multiple headbutts.  Tsuji is dazed.   Goto hits a Shoten Kai.  Tsuji kicks out.   Crowd pops loud,

Goto kicks Tsuji in the face.  Tsuji hits a high knee strike. Both men are down.   Tsuji goes for Gene Blaster but Goto hits a lariat.  Tsuji hits a Gene Blaster.   Two count.  Tsuji hits another Gene Blaster.

Tsuji pins Goto.

Yota Tsuji wins the New Japan Cup 2024.   He will challenge Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Sakura Genesis on April 6.

Yota Tsuji gets the mic and says he has opened the gates to a new era.   He says the emperor (Okada) has left us but I am here.  We shall see what happens in the future.   He invites Naito into the ring.   He tells Naito that he will take that belt from him.  

Naito asks him if he is ready.  Naito tips his cap to Tsuji and smiles and drags the IWGP World belt out of the ring.  

Tsuji tells the fans that the best wrestling is in this ring and he is ready to take the company new places.   He welcomes everyone to a new era as the confetti drops from the ceiling.   

The action on New Japan World continues with Road to Sakura Genesis Show on April 3 and Sakura Genesis on April 6.
