3/16 NEW JAPAN CUP 2024 RESULTS

The show began with Togi Makabe and Hiroshi Tanahashi in the ring.  The New Japan wrestlers surrounded the ringside area.  They acknowledged the passing of Yutaka Yoshie with a 10 bell salute.   They played a memorial video of Yutaka Yoshie.   The announcers mentioned that they added matches of Yutaka Yoshie on New Japan World.  

They also made an announcement that David Finlay had a medical issue and would not compete tonight.   Hirooki Goto will receive a bye into the semifinals.

1 - Boltin Oleg, Shoma Kato and YOH vs. Togi Makabe, Katsuya Murashima and El Desperado 

Oleg pins Murashima after a fireman’s carry slam.

2 - Tomohiro Ishii, Tanga Loa and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Jeff Cobb, Great O-Khan and Francesco Akira

Cobb pins Taguchi with a Tour of the Islands

Cobb has been getting the pins on this tour.  He could be contender for a major title very soon.

3 - Zack Sabre Jr. and Mikey Nicholls vs. TJP and Callum Newman

ZSJ forces Newman to tap out to a reverse figure four and ankle lock submission.

4 - Toru Yano, Hikuleo, El Phantasmo and Jado vs. Chase Owens, KENTA, Gabe Kidd and Taiji Ishimori

Ishimori pins Jado after reversing a Victory Roll.

5 - YOSHI-HASHI and Shota Umino vs. Taichi and Yuya Uemura 

Uemura survived a Butterfly Lock from YOSHI-HASHI.  Uemura hit an arm drag on YOSHI-HASHI and trapped him in a crucifix.

Uemura pins YOSHI-HASHI.

Impressive win by Uemura.  Despite getting his head shaved a month ago, Uemura is getting wins again. 

6 - BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji, Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito vs. Ren Narita, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Dick Togo, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL

Tsuji pins Yujiro with a Gene Blaster.  

After the match, Togo hits Takagi with the chair and EVIL attacks him. Tsuji and Narita stare each other down.  The rest of House of Torture beats down the rest of Los Ingobernales de Japon.

New Japan Cup 2024 - Quarter Finals:

7 - SANADA vs. Jack Perry

Perry takes the mic from the ring announcer.  He tells SANADA he has been waiting for this match since last year.  He says SANADA made him seem like a joke.  He says SANADA pretended not to know him.   Perry attacks him with the mic.  He chokes SANADA with the mic cord.   Perry stomps on him.

SANADA fights back and they battle to the floor.  Perry takes off the padding on the floor.  They fight back into the ring.  They trade attacks.  SANADA gets the advantage with a neck breaker, a TKO then Skull End.   SANADA goes for a moonsault but Perry gets the knees up.  

Perry traps SANADA in the Snare Trap.    Rope break.  Perry drags SANADA over the exposed concrete and hits a DDT.  SANADA beats the count out.  Perry hits a Tiger Bomb.  Two count.

SANADA goes for the O’Conner Roll but Perry grabs the referee as they roll.  Referee takes a bump to the floor.   House of Torture jumps in the ring and attacks SANADA.   Taichi and Uemura makes the save.  They all fight back to the locker room.  

SANADA hits a Poisonrana.  Perry hits the Glass Jaw Knee Strike.  Both men are wiped out.  SANADA hits a high kick and a Magic Screw.  SANADA hits a Shining Wizard, then a slam and a moonsault.  The referee is about to count three but Ren Narita pulls the referee from the ring.   Togo chokes SANADA with his metal wire.  Perry hits another Glass Jaw.   SANADA kicks out.    Perry goes for another Glass Jaw.  SANADA goes for a Dead Fall but Perry reverses out.  SANADA grabs him into an O’Conner Roll.

SANADA pins Perry.

SANADA moves into the semifinals to face Hirooki Goto.

Jack Perry’s tournament ends here but he did a great job with House of Torture.  He fit in well and added to their performance.   Hopefully, he learned a lot on being a heel and being a main event wrestler.

Goto comes to the ring to congratulate SANADA.   SANADA thanks the fans.
