As mentioned earlier, the AEW Dynamite audience barely broke 800,000 viewers on average last night. The quarter hours for the show tell a story that makes that number even worse than it seems on first glance.
According to WrestleNomics.com, the show opened with an even one million viewers for the debut of Mercedes Mone. Great start.
The second quarter hour, which featured Samoa Joe defending the AEW Title against Wardlow, dropped to 899,000 viewers. Not great but not too bad.
Q3 then fell to 815,000 whole the last quarter of the opening hour, which featured The Elite dropped to 737,000.
The 9 o’clock hour perked up, with the first two quarters doing 798,000 and 799,000 viewers respectively. From there, they did 732,000 and closed the second hour with just 627,000 viewers watching the main event (due to a Nielsen error the overrun was not included).
These can’t be the numbers that Tony Khan was expected when he signed Will Ospreay, Mercedes Money and Kazuchika Okada to big money deals.
