A LOOK BACK AT SOME OF THE BEST BOXERS TO APPEAR IN WWE

By Kendall Jenkins on 2024-03-12 09:24:00

The WWE have revealed that Muhammed Ali will be announced into their Hall of Fame ahead of WrestleMania XL. The former heavyweight world champion was the special referee at WrestleMania 1 for the main event between Hulk Hogan and Mr T vs Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper.

That moment at WrestleMania 1 in 1985 inspired other boxers to appear on the brand, and it’s a tradition that continues today, with MMA fighters also now regularly making appearances in the ring.

Here is a look at some of the best boxers to appear on WWE and at the storylines they were involved in.

Tyson Fury KOs Braun Strowman

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is set for the biggest fight of boxing career in May when he takes on Oleksandr Usyk in May. He is evens in the boxing betting to win that unification fight and become the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Although Fury has had a lot of success in boxing, most notably becoming a world champion, he claims one of his career highlights came in the WWE when he defeated Brawn Strowman at Crown Jewel in 2019. He completed a dream of his by featuring at the PPV event. The British boxer KO’d Strowman, who was counted out of the match by the referee.

Fury may be back in the WWE again someday. He is a huge personality, and he looked a natural in the ring against Strowman.

Iron Mike Tyson Brings Down DX

The “Baddest Man of the Planet” Mike Tyson was the special guest referee at WrestleMania XIV in the huge main event between the WWE champion Shawn Michaels and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Going into that fight, it looked as though he was in the camp of D-Generation X. However, the night ended with Tyson flooring Michaels before lifting the arm of Austin.

Tyson was the biggest name in boxing at the time, so his appearance in the WWE helped promote the event. It was also quite fitting that he would kick off the “Attitude Era” in the brand, as he was a man not known for conforming to the rules in the ring.

Floyd Mayweather Catches the Big Show with A Clean Punch

When Floyd Mayweather met The Big Show at WrestleMania XXIV, there was a huge difference in size between the two fighters. However, it did not stop Mayweather from catching The Big Show with one of the cleanest punches seen in a wrestling ring before. It was enough to bring down the giant of an athlete.

Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers in history. When he retired in 2017, he did so with an unbeaten professional record of 50-0. He beat some huge names such as Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya.

Money’s time in the WWE was brief, but he helped promote one of the most successful WrestleMania events in history.

Ali will join the WWE Hall of Fame on April 5 in Philadelphia where his wide Lonnie Ali will induct him into the club. He may be joined by some of the above boxers in the future.
