3/10/24 Results of The New Japan Cup 2024 from Hyogo, Japan:
1 - Tomoaki Honma, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Taiji Ishimori, Chase Owens and KENTA
KENTA pins Honma with a cradle and using his feet on the ropes for leverage.
2 - Ryusuke Taguchi, Toru Yano and Tomohiro Ishii vs. DOUKI, Yuya Uemura and SANADA
SANADA pins Taguchi with a Roll up.
3 - Jado, Hikuleo and Tanga Loa vs. Redo, Gabe Kidd and David Finlay
Tanga hits a Kamagoye in Gedo’s face.
Tanga pins Gedo.
4 - Boltin Oleg, YOH, El Desperado and Shota Umino vs. Yoshinobu Kanemura, SHO, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL
SHO does not come to the ring. House of Torture forces the ring announce to introduce Jack Perry.
Everyone began brawling to the outside. Perry throws Umino into the crowd and beats him down. Perry goes to the English commentary desk and he calls Umino a “f**king mark”. He asks if he is allowed to curse and will he get fined. He asks who is on the disciplinary committee. Gino Gambino tells him “the boss”. Hiroshi Tanahashi was on Japanese commentary. Perry apologizes.
Umino almost messes up a tornado DDT on Yujiro. Ouch. Umino hits Ignition on Yujiro and an STF.
Yujiro taps out.
5 - BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito vs. Callum Newman, Francesco Akira, TJP and Great O-Khan
Takagi pins Newman with Made in Japan.
New Japan Cup - Round 1
6 - El Phantasmo vs. Mikey Nicholls
Good match. After a bunch of reversals, ELP pins Nicholls with a crucifix.
El Phantasmo will move to Round 2 and face the winner of Yota Tsuji and Jeff Cobb.
7 - Taichi vs. Ren Narita
Narita comes to the ring with Yoshinobu Kanemaru.
Kanemaru and Narita attack Taichi before the bell. Boltin Oleg was working ringside and picked up Kanemaru and took him back to the locker room.
They brawl into the crowd. Narita hits Taichi in the face with a chair. Taichi is almost counted out.
Taichi fights back. Narita applies choke holds and works over Taichi’s neck. Narita goes for a low blow but Taichi blocks it. Taichi kicks Narita in the groin and applies a Seitei Jujiro (Stretch Plum). House of Torture appear at ringside.
Narita taps but the referee is distracted. Narita pushes Taichi into the referee who bumps to the floor. House of Torture beat down Taichi.
Narita goes for the pin. Two count. Narita pushes the referee to the floor. House of Torture try to attack again. Just 5 Guys make the save. Taichi plants Narita with a Dangerous Back Drop. Taichi hits a high kick. Taichi hits another Dangerous Back Drop with the bridge.
Jack Perry runs to the ring and pulls out the referee. (Perry was a little late to get into position and the referee has to pause a slight bit when making the two count.)
Perry hammers Taichi with elbows. Taichi drops Perry with an Ax Bomber. Narita grabs his push up bar and goes to hit Taichi. Taichi kicks the bar out of his hands and immediately sells the pain on his leg. Kanemaru jumps in the ring and hits the Suntory Surprise and hits Taichi with whiskey bottle.
Narita hits the Double Cross. Narita pins Taichi.
Ren Narita moves on to Round 2 and will face Zack Sabre Jr.
Perry, Kanemaru and Narita celebrate in the ring.
8 - Yota Tsuji vs. Jeff Cobb
Match was even until Cobb catches Tsuji after a tope suicida and dropped him face first on the apron. Cobb picked Tsuji in a suplex and threw him across the ring. Cobb throws Tsuji with a Pump Handle Suplex. Cobb hits a Gutwrench Suplex off the top rope. Tsuji fights back. Cobb is bleeding from the nose. Cobb actually blocks a curb stomp.
They trade strikes. Tsuji with a neck breaker and a curb stomp. Tsuji hits a Flatliner. Cobb with a Uranage and a clubbing forearm. Cobb misses a moonsault. Tsuji kicks him in the face. Tsuji misses another curb stomp and Cobb connects with a moonsault. They exchange elbows.
Tsuji escapes a Tour of the Islands. Cobb reverses the momentum on a Gene Blaster and hits a power bomb. Cobb hits a Spin Cycle. Two count. Cobb hits an F-5000. Two count. Cobb with a lariat. Cobb hits a Gene Blaster. Tsuji kicks out at 2 and 3/4.
Cobb does his own Rainmaker pose. He goes for a ripcord into a Tour of the Islands but Tsuji hits two knee strikes to the face. Tsuji smashed him with a headbutt and a curb stomp. Tsuji did a double jump off the top rope into a double foot curb stomp. Jeez!! He picked up Cobb and hit a version of Darkness Falls. Two count. Tsuji finally connects with a Gene Blaster.
Tsuji pins Cobb.
Yota Tsuji moves on to Round 2 to face El Phantasmo.
Good match! Cobb really helped Tsuji get over in this match, by absorbing Cobb’s power attack and using his athleticism to get the win.
Tetsuya Naito and Shingo Takagi come to ringside. Again, they tease either Yota or Shingo as challengers for the World Title.
Round 2 of the New Japan Cup 2024 begins tomorrow.
