3/8 NEW JAPAN CUP RESULTS FROM YAMANASHI, JAPAN

3/8/24 Results from The New Japan Cup 2024 from Yamanashi Japan:

1 - Ryusuke Taguchi, Tomohiro Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Gedo, Chase Owens, KENTA and David Finlay

Bishomon hits a Shoto on Gedo.

Goto pins Gedo.

2 - Tomoaki Honma and El Phantasmo vs. Mikey Nicholls and Zack Sabre Jr.

Nicholls hits a Mikey Bomb and pins Honma.

3 - YOH, El Desperado and Shota Umino vs. Dick Togo, SHO and EVIL

SHO does not come out with EVIL and Togo.   EVIL introduces Jack Perry.

YOH pins Togo after hitting a Direct Driver.

4 - DOUKI, Taichi and SANADA vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Yujiro Takahashi and Ren Narita

SANADA hits a Shining Wizard on Yujiro and traps him in Skull End.  Yujiro taps out.

5 - BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji and Tetsuya Naito vs. Francesco Akira, TJP, Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb

Cobb pins BUSHI after a Tour of the Islands.

New Japan Cup - Round 1

6 - Boltin Oleg vs. Hikuleo

There was a presentation prior to the match.   A high school exchange student from Kazakhstan who is training as a wrestler in Yamanashi gave a bouquet of flowers to Boltin Oleg for encouragement for his first match in the New Japan Cup.   Boltin Oleg is also from Kazakhstan.

This was a power match between these big men.   

Hikuleo hit a Godsend and pinned Oleg.

Hikuleo moves onto Round 2 and will face EVIL.

After the match, Hikuleo raised Oleg's arm and the crowd gave him a big ovation.

7 - Callum Newman vs. Gabe Kidd

Both men start fast with quick attacks.  Newman drops Kidd with a running kick.   They go to the floor.  Kidd is thrown against the guardrail and Newman hits a dropkick.  Newman goes for a moonsault to the floor but Kidd hits an uppercut.   Kidd throws Newman into the crowd and into chairs.  Kidd throws him headfirst in the ring post.  Newman is tossed in the ring and Kidd pounds him with strikes and kicks.  Kidd tosses him to the floor and is almost counted out.

Kidd blisters Newman's chest with chops.  Newman reverses a suplex.  Newman throws stiff punt kicks into Kidd's chest.  Kidd dropkicks Newman's knee and hits a release back suplex.  They exchange reversals.  Newman stuns Kidd with a Spanish Fly.   Newman hits a superkick and a dropkick.  Newman with a dragon suplex and a spinning kick.  Newman misses a Shooting Star Press.  Kidd hits a lariat and a brainbuster.  Two count.  Kidd hits a Piledriver.

Kidd pins Newman.

Gabe Kidd moves on to Round 2.

Newman looks good, but he needs more singles matches, not just tag matches.

8 - Shingo Takagi vs. Yuya Uemura

Uemura worked on Takagi's left arm with armbars, armdrags and submissions.  Takagi fought back with strikes.  Takagi attack Uemura's midsection with knees, and applied a STF and a crossface.  Uemura countered with a dropkick and went back to work on the left arm with a hammer lock.  Takagi threw punches and a DDT.  Takagi with a Superplex.  They trade strikes and reversals.   Uemura with a Dragon Suples.  Two count.  Uemura hits a uranage.  Two count.  Takagi blocks a Deadbolt suplex and hits a Pumping Bomber.   Takagi hits Made in Japan.   Two count.   Uemura fights out of Last of the Dragon.  They exchange strikes.    Uemura locks in a cross arm breaker.  Takagi gets to the ropes.  

Takagi blocks another Deadbolt.  Uemura with a Pele Kick.   Takagi with a Sliding Elbow to Uemura's neck.   Takagi hits a Pumping Bomber and follows with Last of the Dragon.

Takagi pins Uemura.

Shingo Takagi moves to Round 2 to face Gabe Kidd.

Taichi comes into the ring to check on Uemura.  

Takagi addresses the fans.  Yamanashi is his hometown.  

Yota Tsuji and Tetsuya Naito come to the ring.   They do the LIJ salute.  

They are foreshadowing either Tsuji or Takagi winning the New Japan Cup and challenging Naito for the World Title at Sakura Genesis on April 6.
