ROH Episode 51: All Eyes on the Prize
The long-awaited ROH Women’s World Television Championship Tournament starts tonight with our first four matches on tonight’s episode. Also scheduled is the return of former ROH World Television Champion Kenny King to face off against Dalton Castle. We are setting the stage for SuperCard of Honor, so let’s see how the rest of the episode was.
Queen Aminata vs J-Rod:
I voiced on Twitter earlier this week that I was not happy that people who have been featured more prominently on ROH TV such as Lady Frost, Vertvixen, and Marina Shafir are not in this tournament. The division is stacked, utilize your roster. However, J-Rod is an impressive wrestler and took it to Aminata throughout the match. Queen Aminata advances in the tournament.
Winner: Queen Aminata
The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean) vs Midnight Heat (Ricky Gibson Eddie Pearl):
This match got a lot of time. I say this every week I love the Infantry. They are a team who at Supercard of Honor I hope is wrestling Bennett and Taven for the ROH Tag Team Championships. They get the win after a very competitive matchup.
Winners: The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean)
Queen Aminata Promo:
Aminata says that she did not move from West Africa to lose the tournament. Even though the title is silver she is in the mindset to win some gold. She talks about how she is representing a continent and she is going to prove why she is one of the best wrestlers in ROH.
Rachael Ellering vs Leyla Hirsch:
Now this is what I expected to be the finals in this tournament, but sadly ROH had other plans. This match was brutal, they did an injury angle with Ellering’s elbow that they played into the entire match. Hirsch got the win as Ellering and her celebrated a fantastic match.
Winner: Leyla Hirsch
Nyla Rose Promo:
Rose said she came to the building early and she was looking for Athena. Athena attacks her from behind with a table and the two go at it. Security tries to break them up but both Rose and Athena beat up the security guards. Rose gets the upper hand by throwing the table in Athena’s face and walking away angrily.
The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum) vs Jeaux Braxton and Ice Williams:
The interesting thing about the finish of this match is The Outrunners used The Infantry’s finishing move to win this match. The Outrunners also got booed when they won their match, so looks like they are going more towards the bad side than the good side.
Winners: The Outrunners (Turbo Floyd and Truth Magnum)
The Infantry Promo:
The Infantry says they are back in the win column just like they belong. Lee Moriarty came to congratulate them and tell them what The Outrunners did in that match. They storm out angry figuring out what to do next.
Bryan Keith vs Slice Boogie:
First squash of the night. Sigh.
Winner: Bryan Keith
Mercedes Martinez vs Trish Adora:
Don’t get me wrong loved the match, wrong winner though. Adora being out in the first round is shocking because so many people thought she would at least make it to the semifinals. Adora is one of the many young faces of the ROH Women’s Division and not seeing her advance in this tournament made me and others very disappointed.
Winner: Mercedes Martinez
Rachael Ellering Promo:
Ellering says she has been dreaming of this tournament and she was not prepared to face her friend in the first round. Hirsch apologizes and says she never meant to hurt her and this is not how she wanted to win this tournament. Ellering says it is okay and she has to do what she has to do. Both of them were proud of each other and Ellering is here to see her win this whole thing.
Lance Archer and The Righteous (Vince and Dutch) vs Jon Cruz, JC Valentine, and James Blackheart:
Another squash, sigh. Also, where is Jake Roberts?
Winners: Lance Archer and The Righteous (Vince and Dutch)
The Infantry Promo:
The Infantry confronted The Outrunners over stealing their finishing move. The Outrunners say they did not do it, and The Infantry says if it happens again they are going to have a problem. They walk away as The Outrunners continue to celebrate their win.
Kenny King vs Dalton Castle:
Dalton Castle is still not happy and he is waiting for Johnny TV to tell him about the stipulation for their match, he is tired! I’d love to see King in ROH more often since he is a former champion and a fantastic talent. Even with Castle’s downward spiral, he was able to secure the win. After the match, Castle says he can not sleep knowing that there is a face that needs smashing. He calls out Johnny TV and asks what the stipulation is for his match. Johnny TV says Castle is not TV-ready and all he does is eat cheese and talk about smashing Johnny TV’s face. Johnny TV says that he and Taya Valkyrie want the boys they call him a loser and walk away.
Winner: Dalton Castle
Athena Promo:
Athena says that every time she steps up to Rose she always gets beat down and can never get the advantage. She is tired of someone trying to break everything she has worked so hard to build on her show. Next week she challenges her to a table match and she will prove who runs the ROH Women’s Division.
Kiera Hogan vs Diamante:
Another shocker, Hogan lost. For those who do not know these two are dating in real life and they had great chemistry in this matchup. You can tell both were hungry to win this match, but at the end of the day, Diamante was the one who got it done.
Winner: Diamante
Nyla Rose Promo:
Rose accepts the challenge and appreciates the offer. Rose says that tables are her thing so she is going to raise the stakes. This will now be a two out of three falls table match meaning you have to put your opponent through a table twice. She tells Athena that she will see her next week and that concludes our episode.
Overall:
There was only one champion on this episode which is disappointing Even though the entirety of this episode was surrounding the tournament, there should still be other champions on the show. Besides the tournament matches and the Rose and Athena feud continuing nothing major happened in this episode either which was also disappointing. Hopefully, this can all change next week.
