Some MLW News and Notes leading out of MLW Superfight and into the 2/29 Intimidation Games event in NYC:
Prior to leaving for The United States to perform at SuperFight, Satoshi Kojima had a family emergency as his daughter needed to be rushed to the hospital. Sh was on the mend when he had to head to the States and we are told she is OK now. Kojima won the MLW title at Superfight, but that is very secondary to his daughter and we pass along our best wishes to the family.
MLW sources state that after Kojima's win, there was a "huge surge" for online advance ticket sales for upcoming events, possibly since fans knew that meant he would be appearing regularly. So, the switch was a positive for the promotion in the short-term for sure.
The post-MLW title win celebration done by Yuji Nagata was not something the promotion booked in advance. Basically, Nagata was through backstage and asked a referee to help carry beers out for Kojima, who had zero idea he was going to get dunked with them. Nagata and Kojima embraced and celebrated backstage as well in what we are told was a great moment for those who witnessed it. Kojima vs. Minoru Suzuki is set for 2/29 at Intimidation Games, which will air live on TrillerTV+.
Davey Boy Smith is 100% recovered from his health issues and will be a regular going forward.
MLW Superfight was designed to wrap up previous storylines and was the setup for the promotion pivoting to a new direction with different stories and talents.
We noted the return of CONTRA-Unit to kick off a feud with Jacob Fatu. We are told we can expect to see "more" soldiers for the group coming in, returning and new characters.
We noted previously the first four MLW action figures from Boss Fight Studio were available at Superfight and sold out. They are also available at some online stores but have sold out there as well, but will be restocked shortly. The first four are Alexander Hammerstone, Jacob Fatu, Mads Kruger and Killer Kross. Future figures include MicroMan and EJ Nduka.
Atlas Security is back with the promotion.
Superfight was the last scheduled show in the 2300 Arena currently for the promotion.
Additional dates set for the company are 3/29 in St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa) at The Coliseum and 5/11 in Chicago at Cicero Stadium.
