ROH Episode 50 Review: “We Finished Our Story”
Yes, there still was an ROH Episode tonight, in fact, it was the 50th episode. Despite your belief on what the Wrestlemania main events will be the superstars of ROH put on an amazing episode full of great wrestling and we even found out who Dalton Castle’s friend was! Let’s review!
The WorkHorsemen (JD Drake and Anthony Henry) vs Sayrus GT Brilliante RV:
I love this team and if it is not The Infantry, then The Workhorsemen should be the ones to take the titles off The Kingdom. This fun opener lasted only a short time, but The WorkHorsemen got the win.
Winners: The WorkHorsemen (JD Drake and Anthony Henry)
Dalton Castle Promo:
Jerry Lynn and Lexy Nair try to get in a word with Dalton Castle’s friend. Castle says they can not talk to his friend when Taya Valkyrie and Johnny TV interrupt. They taunt Castle and his imaginary friend, as Lynn says Castle better not get involved in the match tonight. Castle swears that he will be watching this match from the monitor.
Aaron Solo vs Ethan Page:
Page remains in his pink and purple gear for his daughter which was nice to see. This match got a lot of time which was nice to see since we usually do not see Solo on ROH programming. Page gets the win as he shakes Solo’s hand as he is one step closer to challenging Kyle Fletcher for the ROH Television Championship.
Winner: Ethan Page
Penta El Zero Miedo & El Hiljo Del Vikingo vs Jon Cruz & KM:
I was shocked to see Penta on ROH simply because when the Lucha Brothers were ROH Tag Team Champions they were not even on the weekly television show. Vikingo and Penta make a great team, and even though they are not supposed to be doing much I would not mind seeing them again. The crowd loves Penta and Vikingo and since Fenix is not cleared as of yet I guess this will be the new team till he returns.
Winners: Penta El Zero Miedo & El Hiljo Del Vikingo
Billie Starkz Promo:
Lexy Nair tries to hype Starkz up as she delivers a message from Nyla Rose. She says Rose wants to host an M.E.M. and Starkz says if Rose wants to find her she can wait till after her match tonight.
Johnny TV vs Hombre De Pavo Real De Montana:
Yes, this was Castle in a costume. Johnny says there will be no match tonight since this is Castle. Montana says he is not Castle and he swears he is someone else. Valkyrie insults him in Spanish, and Montana does not understand because he does not speak Spanish. Castle admits it is him under the disguise, but says he has been tired and he just wants his match. Johnny says since Castle is not TV-ready they will not have their match. Castle repeatedly says that he wants to smash Johnny's head so he can get revenge. Castle says that he will do anything Johnny wants to have the match and he said he will let him know next week.
Shane Taylor Promo:
Taylor says that this year he will be responsible for the change. He sends a message to anyone who has not been given opportunities to join Taylor and be a part of the solution in ROH.
Maria Kanellis Promo:
She brings Nair over to an area in the arena where Griff Garrison and Cole Karter are beating down Angelico and another wrestler. Serpentico comes and screams that his best friend was beaten up.
Billie Starkz vs Araya Thorn:
Starkz showed her dominant side that Athena had taught her throughout the matchup which led her to the win. Nyla came out in the middle of the match to distract Starkz, but she still got the win. Rose says that Starkz has been avoiding her the last couple of weeks and she wants to know if she will fall in line. Athena returns and puts Rose through a table as she screams this is my house.
Winner: Billie Starkz
Trish Adora vs Diamante vs Kiera Hogan vs Leyla Hirsch:
I don’t like that we have done these four corner survival matches three weeks in a row and we have not gotten anywhere, to me that is lazy booking. Diamante tries to bring a chair into the match but Ellering takes it away. This leads Hirsch to be distracted and Diamante to pin Hirsch with her feet on the ropes.
Winner: Leyla Hirsch
Cole Karter, Griff Garrison, Shane Taylor, & Lee Moriarty vs Shawn Dean, Carlie Bravo, Bronson, & Boulder:
This was great. Eight men who are trying to make their mark in ROH. I usually do not like the multi-tag matches, but this one went well. Moriarty got the pin for his team to secure the win. As Garrison and Karter were leaving the ring Serpencito attacked them both as revenge for beating up Angelico earlier in the night.
Winners: Cole Karter, Griff Garrison, Shane Taylor, & Lee Moriarty
Rachael Ellering and Leyla Hirsch Promo:
Hirsch says she does not know what happened, but she took the loss. Ellering says she was trying to help as Hirsch expresses her frustration. Hirsch says she has her back going into the tournament as Ellering says the same thing.
Gravity vs Lee Johnson:
Johnson is doing great things in 2024, I hope he gets a championship shot somewhere down the line. This was a fun matchup towards the end of the show, which led to Johnson getting the win.
Winner: Lee Johnson
Dalton Castle Promo:
Castle does not know what Johnny TV wants in exchange for a match. He lists out his blood and worm farm. Castle has a panic attack as Nair calls the medic. Castle then is shoved in a dryer as he tells Nair she will see him in a week.
Taya Valkyrie vs Killa Kate:
Squash match Valkryie remains undefeated.
Winner: Taya Valkyrie
AR Fox vs Jack Cartwheel vs Willie Mack vs Komander:
Cartwheel is the MVP for this matchup because he carried. I know we have seen him a lot more on ROH TV lately, so I am hoping that he signed some type of deal because he is impressive. Komander pinned Cartwheel to get the win, but do not take anything away from Jack Cartwheel.
Winner: Komander
Athena Promo:
Starkz and Nair celebrate with Athena since she is back. They are going to celebrate and she tells them to get the car. Athena says that Rose can not touch Athena since this is her show and everything she touches is hers. She tells Rose to bow down as Rose attacks her. She says sike you thought bites into a grapefruit as we end the show.
Overall:
In all seriousness, for what ROH had to go against tonight, I thought this was a great episode. A lot of great action and some fun storylines as we are approaching the one-year anniversary of ROH TV! Sadly, we only had one champion on this week's programming so I hope next week that can change.
