NWA POWERRR TV REPORT - IT'S CW APP TIME & ULTIMATE MATCH OF DEATH

Season 17 Episode 1: The Golden Door

We start with a video that sets up the Ultimate Match of Death between NWA Champion EC3 and Matt Cardona. When we see the studio, it has more people in the crowd than in a long, long time. 

Blunt Force Trauma (Damage and Carnage) NWA World Tag Team Champions w/Aron Stevens vs Jax Dane and Tim Storm

BFT attack before the bell and Sevens keeps the ref from doing anything to stop it. BFT is down, so Storm and Dane turn their attention to Stevens, and BFT^ is able to attack so Stevens can get out of the ring. Dax and Storm hit double slams. Storm goes for the claw and the ref makes them break it up. Storm and Dax hit Carnage with a hip toss and he rolls out of the ring. Damage pulls Dane out of the ring to brawl as the bell finally rings. 

Dane is beaten down on the outside of the ring and he’s rolled into the ring by Carnage, who continues the beat down in the ring. Damage tags in and they work over Dane with quick tags. Dane gets a Samoan drop, they struggle to tag in their partners and Storm runs wild. The ref gets hit when Storm tosses Damage to Dane, at which point Sevens hits Dane with the loaded glove. Storm locks the claw onto Damage, and Stevens nails him with the loaded glove to no avail.  Storm puts the claw on Stevens’s hand. This allows Damage to get the surprise rollup for the pin and the win.

Winners and still NWA Tag Team Champions:  Blunt Force Trauma.

A match where BFT doesn’t really do much, and it is all about Stevens’s shenanigans.  The ref doesn't do the best job at not seeing the interference, which didn’t help the match look smooth. 

We then have a pre-tape with Mims who calls for a title unification match with Max the Impaler next week.

May Valentine then has an interview with Matt Cardona who says he is the Indy God Death Match King. He came to the company to win the title and he will win tonight’s match with EC3.

Kenzie Paige (NWA World’s Women’s Championship) vs Tiffany Nieves 

They lock up collar and elbow and move to arm bars. Neives gets a side headlock takeover and they then work back up to their feet with Paige getting a hammer lock. She drops an elbow and cranks on an arm bar. Nieves reverses the arm bar and Paige gets a cartwheel escape. Both go for arm drags and neither succeed. 

They lock up again and go around the ring with it. Paige gets an arm drag to break the hold. They then go for hip tosses with the other blocking back and forth. They go to the coroner and break. Paige tries for a back slide and Neives gets a schoolgirl. They go into a small package and roll around the ring. 

Nieves holds out a hand for a handshake and instead they both flip each other off, and Paige grabs one of Neives’s fingers for a big ol’ chomp. Paige whips Nieves into the corner, but Nieves goes up and gives Paige a boot to the head. Paige pulls her down and tells the crowd to kiss her hinder. Paige lays in a chop and in the corner, Paige is able to grab Nieves with her feet to drop Nieves. 

Paige gets a snap mare and a kick to Nieves’s back. Nieves blocks a head scissors and hits Paige with an airplane spin and a side slam, followed by leg scissors on the mat. Paige breaks free with a back elbow. Nieves gets kicks in the corner and hits a German suplex. Nieves kneels on Paige on the second rope. Page gets the head scissors into a crossface and Nieves rolls her over for two.

Paige goes to the top and Nieves gets a head scissors handstand to slam Paige onto the mat. They trade chops in the middle of the ring that turn into forearms. Then a back kick from Paige, and Nieves gets a spine buster and locks in the Texas Cloverleaf. Paige grabs the ropes for a break. Paige gets a chop and then grabs her title belt. The ref takes it away and Paige has a can of hairspray. She sprays it in Nieves’s face and hits a cutter for the pin and the win.

Winner and still NWA Women’s Champion: Kenzie Paige

A second match with shenanigans in the finish. This is not the best start for the season, especially since they are exclusive to the CW app now. 

EC3 talks about the match with Matt Cardona with May Valentine..

EC3 (NWA World Champion() vs Matt Cardona in an Ultimate Match of Death

There are plywood boards, a Golden Chair, and other plunder around the ring. 

EC3 hits a Thesz press and then moves to chops in the corners. EC3 gets a back heel trip and rolls to the outside and tosses a chair in the ring and then slides in a door. Cardona has a chair and the weapons attacks start. Cardona is back dropped into the door set up in the corner. Cardona calls for a time out and EC3 slams his head into the steel steps.

Cafdona is rolled into the ring after a short brawl, and Cardone gets a low blow, a chair shot and EC3 goes off the apron through a table. EC3 is busted open and they show him in black and white. Cardona pulls out a picture of Dixie Carter and he hits a DDT on the picture, breaking the glass. 

The match is fully black and white and every so often, we get a siren of some kind. They return the ring and Caredona goes after EC3 with a chair and then chokes him with wrist tape. Cardona tosses a chair at EC3’s back for a one count. EC3 gets a jaw breaker and then clothesline and misses a splash in the corner. Cardona tosses a chair at EC3’s head. Cardona then gets a big boot into a chair on EC3’s face for two.

Cardona wedges a chair in the corner and then misses a chair shot, and the chair bounces off the ropes into his head. EC3 then rams Careona into the wedged chair. They go to the floor. Cardona is busted open. They both slowly get back in the ring. EC3 hits a Thesz press onto Cardona through a door in the corner. EC3 covers for two. 

EC3 tosses a chair to the face of Cardona, and then piles a bunch of plunder in the middle of the ring.  Dealz says EC3 is building a treehouse. Cardona is able to get a belly to back suplex onto the plunder for two. Cardona grabs a guitar and smashes it on EC3’s head, then hits a 1 percenter on EC3 for two. Cardona pulls out a tub of action figures and dumps it on the mat. 

They fight in the corners and Cardona uses a Mick Foley action figure to attack EC3 with. The then uses his own action figure for 9 blows on EC3 in the corner, but EC3 gets a power bomb onto the figures for two. EC3 then pours thumbtacks onto the mat as the crowd chants “you sick f***”. Cardona is able to recover and hits the Radio Silence onto the tacks for two. 

Cardona brings out the light tubes from under the ring. EC3 stops his attack with a low blow and then EC3 grabs the tubes and nails Cardona in the head with them, followed with a 1 Percenter and then locks on the Purpose and Cardona has to tap out.

Winner and still NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion: EC3

They did not put their best foot forward in my opinion.  For their first show as an exclusive on CW has two matches with referee shenanigans and then a 20 minute deathmatch in black and white. Then, the match they hype for next week is an intergender match.  It feels like they are leaning into the “outlaw indy promotion” and insider winks instead of starting off with solid matches and introducing characters.
