AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2024-01-24 20:35:00

It is Wednesday and this week Dynamite is at the Enmarket Arena in Savannah Georgia. The commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Taz, and Excalibur.

Samoa Joe comes to the ring in a suit with something to say. He says that all championship opportunities must be earned and everyone wrestling tonight is wrestling for an opportunity. And anyone who earns that opportunity is earning the worst night of your life, because he will beat you down like he did Hook.

Hook strides to the ring at the mention of his name. He says last week Joe won and he lost. Hook goes in for a hug and says somewhere down the line, they will meet again.  Joe asks for security to remove him from the ring, and Hook fights them off and leaves the ring after putting the redrum on one of the members of security.

Joe then joins commentary

Adam Page vs Penta

The crowd is chanting for Penta. They start by shaking hands, but then have words. When Page gets in Penta’s face you hear scattered boos. They go back and forth with chops, then kicks, and then Page takes over, working over Penta in the corner. They move back to back and forth after Penta is able to get a flurry of offense.

After the commercial break, they move to bigger moves, and near falls. They brawl on the apron and Penta ends the sequence by blocking a buckshot and hits Made in Japan for two. Page is able to hit a series of moves on Penta, ensign with a comeback lariat followed by a buckshot for the pin and the win.

Winner: Adam Page

The announcers talk about how Page is starting his claim toward the top of the mountain and have his jaw jack at Joe.

Renee is with Orange Cassidy and asks him about Roderick Strong. He agrees to the match at Revolution and he will keep defending the title. There will be a qualifier on Friday for a match with him on Saturday.

We then have the Young Bucks are with Alex Marvez and they say morale is great because they fixed the catering problem and they are making sure things run smoothly. They see Top Flight and say they showed up late. Top Flight says they have been here since one and the Bucks just got here.

Trent Beretta vs Wardlow

Both men come out with their faction members.

Wardlow starts off the match by just destroying Trent. Trent is able to get a small package for two, and he then gets a series of attacks on Wardlow.  THIS JUST MAKES HIM ANGRY. Trent gets beaten down during the commercial break, and Trent is able to get some hope spots when we come back. The ref argues with the Undisputed Kingdom and Trent nails Wardlow in the back with a chair on the outside of the ring. In the ring, Trent is able to get a pile driver for two.

Trent goes for a cross body off the top but ends up in a power slam. Wardlow takes over, and we get the power bomb symphony for the pin and the win.

Winner: Wardlow

Wardlow starts to go for another power bomb, but the Best Friends stop him, and the Undisputed Era motions for him to join them. Good way to have Wardlow get back to deastorying midcarders without completely making it a squash match.

We then get a video package to hype up the main event.

Renee is on the stage and calls for Deonna Purrazzo to join her. Toni Storm is then called and they sit in director’s chairs. They do a split screen where Toni is in black and white. Toni says that Deonna being body shamed is terrible because there is so much more for her to be ashamed about.

Toni says she will beat Deonna in the ring and Deonna says she came to the company to win titles. Deonna begs to face the past version of Toni for the title. She then reminds Toni they have matching ankle tattoos.

Shoes start flying and then a brawl takes out and Luthor gets nails by Deonna. Toni and Mariah May take off, leaving the title and Deonna holds up and then tosses at Luther.

We come back to Jon Moxley who says the Blackpool Combat Club has won a lot of matches and titles, but no victory parties because they are working to the next match. He says he will maim and pulverize anyone who can’t keep up, and he will be wrestling on Rampage.

Taya Valkyrie and Johnny TV have a promo that talks about how they are the most TV ready couple in AEW and she challenges Deonna Purrazzo to a match next week.

Swerve Strickland w/Prince Nana vs Jeff Hardy w/Matt Hardy

The announcers put over how Hardy has changed his attitude. Swerve gets the loudest reaction of the night.

Hardy chants take over after they first tie up and sequence.

Each gets a series where they dominate the other, followed by the other getting a sequence. When they move to brawling around the ring it becomes more back and forth, Jeff is able to use the steel steps and a springboard to knock Swerve and himself into the crowd as we go to picture in picture.

They fight pretty hard during the picture in picture, but it strikes me that this is a match that the crowd was the most excited about so far as most of the stuff before the commercial break was to get the crowd to chant and cheer rather than a match. They keep fighting with kicks and big moves as the crowd makes it seem bigger with dueling chants. As they fight on the floor, Jeff gets a twist of fate on the steel steps.  He rolls Swerve into the ring and misses a swanton. Swerve hits a house call for two.

They move to near falls and the crowd is chanting along with each count.  The crowd is really into the match, a contrast to the first match which they had next to no interest in. Swerve gets the Swerve Stomp for the pin and the in.

Winner: Swerve Strickland

This is a match that they should pay attention to the crowd and make it a feud that builds for their next big match.  When fans are just excited about two guys in the ring with each other, you jump on that.

In the back, Renee starts to talk to Adam Page and Swerve shows up and they have words about their undefeated records, and Renee says they will be in dealer’s choice matches, choosing each other’s matches.

Thunder Rosa vs Red Velvet

This is Rosa’s first singles match on Dynamite since her return. They mix it up with back and forth work going into a commercial break while they are still in the feeling out process. When we come back to full screen, they are already moving to the big moves and near falls, which is a shame.  These two are both great performers, and can really shine if given enough time. Rosa hits her Tijuana Bomb for the pin and the win.

Winner: Thunder Rosa

Tony Schiavone is in the ring to talk to Darby Allin and the man called Sting. Darby talks first and says he’s always asked about teaming with Sting, and to slow down because he will have to retire before Sting.

Which reminds me to remind everyone Don’t Do What Darby Allin Does.

He then tells the story about when he met Sting and told him he still had it and needed to get back in the ring, and they should go for the tag team titles.

Sting then says he is all in.

Ricky Starks and Big Bill are backstage and they accept the challenge.

The Acclaimed (Billy Gunn, Anthony Bowens and Max Caster) AEW Trios Champions w/Bullet Club Gold vs The Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Leona) w/Prince Nana

The Acclaimed do their big entrance after Bullet Club Gold do their entrance.

They immediately go to Bowens as the babyface in perils as the Mogul Embassy work him over with quick tags. This continues through the picture in picture and it makes me think that the match had time cut from it, so we are just getting highlights instead of a normal match. Billy Gunn gets to tag in and clean house. Jay White nails Kaun with a chair and Prince Nana is put through a table by the Gunns. The Acclaimed hit a famouser and the arrival for  the pin and the win in a match on fast forward.

Winners and still AEW Trios Champions: The Acclaimed

We get another video for Sernea Deeb who returns on Saturday.

Adam Copeland vs Minoru Suzuki

The match starts at 5 minutes to the hour, which is a shame. I am not saying it is a dream match, but this is a fun matchup I never thought I would see.

They start the way all of Suzuki matches start, throwing hands. Copeland is the one who drops to the mat first, and when they fight again, Copeland drops again. After Copeland gets a back body drop, they fight in the ropes, and then fight on the floor. Copeloand shoves them backward through the barricade.

They get back in the ring and 9 and it’s back to throwing hands. There is no move vs move stuff, it’s just each other throwing hands and punctuating what they do with a big move. Suzuki is able to grab an arm bar and Copeland makes it to the ropes. Copeland is able to hit a spear for two. Suzuki grabs a rear naked choke and Copeland nearly goes out, but he breaks free by running Suzuki into the uncovered turnbuckle. Copeland hits a killswitch for the pin and the win.

Winner: Adam Copeland.

After the match, Adam says he’s never been hit that hard in his life and shows respect to Suzuki. Suzuki snarls at him and leaves, and Copeland says he would be disappointed if Suzuki shook his hand. He then says he is still coming for Christian Cage.
