ROH Episode 47: “All Hail the ROH World Tag Team Championships”
By some chance of a miracle the ROH World Tag Team Championships are being defined on this week's episode of ROH. Not only are those titles being defended but also the TV title and the Triple A Mega Championship as well. With all that being said let’s see how ROH did this week!
Billie Starkz Promo:
Starkz does not understand why Nyla Rose would attack Athena and she wants revenge. Lexi Nair tries to calm her down by telling her to take a deep breath and focus on the eight women tag later in the night. Starkz says that the boss wants her to go after the ROH Women’s Television Championship and that is what she is going to do. She continues to have a breakdown and cries to Nair saying she wants to kick Rose’s head in. Nair comforts her while saying that everything is going to be fine.
Nyla Rose vs Erica Leigh:
Squashing her opponents on the way to the gold. Rose gets the win.
Winner: Nyla Rose
ROH World Tag Team Championships Undisputed Kingdom (Mike Bennett and Matt Taven) vs Iron Savages (Boulder and Bronson):
Yes, the tag titles are being defended this is a New Year's miracle. I was a little shocked the Kingdom dominated most of the match given how dominant Boulder and Bronson have been on ROH TV over the last couple of months. The Kingdom got the win and let’s all hope we are not going to go six more months until the next time the ROH World Tag Team Championships are defended on ROH TV.
Winner: “And Still” Undisputed Kingdom (Mike Bennett and Matt Taven)
Rachael Ellering, Robyn Renegade, Taya Valkyrie, and Leyla Hirsch Promo:
Renegade said that she hates her team trashes all of the members and says she is going to show out in this match and she does not care what anyone else in the match does. Valkyrie says that the agenda remains the same and that is her getting the ROH Women’s TV Title and tells Hirsch to fix her attire as she walks away. Hirsch then says that Valkryie needs to fix her hair.
Claudio Castagnoli vs Bryan Keith:
Castagnoli on ROH TV, now this was exciting. This match was fantastic and if Keith is not signed to any sort of deal with AEW I hope that changed after this match. The match got a lot of time and was a great back-and-forth between a veteran and a newcomer within ROH. After the match was over Castagnoli offered the Code of Honor, but instead, Keith nodded his cowboy hat to show respect.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli
Rachael Ellering, Robyn Renegade, Taya Valkyrie, and Leyla Hirsch vs Billie Starkz, Queen Aminata, Kiera Hogan, and Lady Frost:
So many women, ROH has come so far! This match was really fun. All eight women got the opportunity to shine as they all kept proving why they should be the first ROH Women’s Television Champion. After the match was over Abadon appeared as they looked to make their case for the new title as well. Although we do not know when the tournament is starting to crown the new champion I am going to assume that everyone involved in this match as well as Abadon and a few others will be in that tournament.
Winners: Billie Starkz, Queen Aminata, Kiera Hogan, and Lady Frost
Action Andretti Promo:
Andretti says that he is hydrated and ready to go for his match later on tonight. Top Flight comes riding in on a golf cart to hype their friend up as all three of them drive away excited for the main event tonight.
Butcher and Blade vs Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin):
One of my pet peeves is when throughout the episode they rotate where the matches take place, as this match was filmed at Daily’s Place after Dynamite, where the rest of the matches took place at the Collision Taping last week. The one thing I will say about this match is that the crowd was heavily invested. I was hoping Top Flight would be going after AEW Tag Team gold at this point, but seems as if they have other plans. Great win for the young tag team.
Winners: Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin)
Serpentico vs Mark Briscoe:
Always great seeing Mark Briscoe on ROH, especially for the first time in six months. I thought this match was a little too long, especially because if you have been watching ROH TV you know Serpentico has been taking more losses than wins lately. Briscoe gets the win as the two exchange the Code of Honor.
Winner: Mark Briscoe
Nyla Rose Promo:
Nair asks why she attacked Athena, and she says that after meeting with Athena she has proclaimed herself the new minion overlord. Rose says that now that she is in ROH she wanted to make a statement which is why she attacked Athena and she says the next time Athena shows up she will make another statement until she wins the ROH Women’s Championship as she begins the hunt for Billie Starkz.
Diamante vs Dream Girl Ellie:
Diamante is on a roll. Huge statement match here and a huge win.
Winner: Diamante
Taya Valkyrie and Johnny TV Promo:
Johnny says he is not going to have a match with Dalton Castle. Castle screams how can you say no and throws a piece of cheese at Valkyrie. Castle and Johnny fight throughout the arena until he locks himself in a room. Castle says Johnny took everything from him and all he wants is to smash Johnny’s face in. As Castle says he has to get out of the room at some point.
ROH World Television Championship: Kyle Fletcher vs Christopher Daniels:
Time for the weekly why does Christopher Daniels have a match on ROH TV instead of a young-up incomer who needs an opportunity? Fletcher dominated most of this match as he now is on a three-match win streak. Glad the TV Title is being defended more and I hope this is the start of a huge title reign from Fletcher.
Winner: “And Still” Kyle Fletcher
Ethan Page Promo:
Page says that after his big win at Final Battle, he is ready to finally finish the promise he made to his daughter and win some gold. He calls out Kyle Fletcher and says he is coming after the Television Title. He says that even though Fletcher is in the Don Callis family he respects that Fletcher has come to ROH solo and he hopes it remains that way. He will be keeping an eye on Fletcher in the next couple of weeks.
Triple A Mega Championship: El Hijo Del Vikingo vs Action Andretti:
The main event on tonight’s episode was great. Vikingo and Andretti have a similar fast-paced style, so you knew throughout this match you were not going to be able to blink unless you wanted to miss something. Vikingo and Andretti shared the Code of Honor as Vikingo celebrated his huge win.
Winner: “And Still” El Hijo Del Vikingo
Overall:
I loved the fact that we had three title defenses on this week's episode, even if one of the titles was not an ROH Title. I thought this week's episode was good, nothing special about it but all focus seems to be on that new ROH Women’s Television Championship which is great to see. Now let’s just hope the World Tag Team Titles will be defended more often.
