It is Wednesday and this week Dynamite is at the North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston NC. The commentary team is Ian Riccabonni, Taz, and Excalibur.
We start with a video setting up the main event tonight between Samoa Joe and Hook for the AEW World Championship.
Christian Cage (AEW TNT Champion) w/Nick Wayne and Killswitch vs Dustin Rhodes
Oddly enough, they have Cage come out first.
Cage stalls to start the match but when they do lock up, Rhodes forces them into the ropes, where Rhodes breaks clean. They lock up again and go into the ropes and Rhodes forces them into the corner for another clean break. For the third lock up, Cage instead kicks Rhodes and then beats him down. They run the ropes and Rhodes gets a scoop slam and Cage rolls from the ring.
Rhodes follows him and they brawl at ringside. Cage is slammed face first into the announcer’s table. Cage is then tossed into the steel steps. He tosses Cage into the ring and then mounts him in the corner for ten blows. Cage throws a couple of blows and they fight up the turnbuckle and Cage slams Rhodes’s head into the buckle support. Cage leaps onto Rhodes from the top as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Rhodes misses a charge into Cage. Cage goes to the top and misses a diving head butt. Both men are down and take time to recover. They throw hands as they get up. Rhodes gets a Manhattan drop and then whips Cage to the corners. Rhodes hits a bulldog for two. Rhodds slingshots Cage into the turnbuckle and then sets him up for the Natural Kick.
Rhodes gets a code red for a two count. Cage tries to beg off and drags Rhodes onto the second ropes when he stands on Rhodes’s back. Cage goes to the floor and nails Rhodes when Rhodes tries for a dive. Cage snaps Rhodes over the top rope and then hits a frog splash from the top for two.
Cage brings the belt into the ring and the ref stops him. Rhodes grabs a small package but Wayne gets in the ring to roll him over while the ref isn’t looking and Cage gets a two count. Cage puts Rhodes in the corner and they throw hands again with Rhodes working Cage to the corner. Rhodes knocks Cage’s feet out from under him on the top and gets another Natural Kick.
Rhodes hits a suplex from the top and then hits crossroads for two. Wayne tries to grab Rhodes’s feet, and Killswitch tries an attack when Rhodes on on the floor; Rhodes stops him and hits a destroyer on the floor. In the ring, Cage is trying to take off the turnbuckle pad to distract the ref. When Rhodes gets in the ring and nails Rhodes and then follows with a spear and a Killswitch for two.
Cage screams at Rhodes to give up and Cage hits a second killswitch for the pin and the win.
Winner and still TNT Champion: Christian Cage
Renee Paquette is with Swerve Strickland alone. She asks him about the main event. He says he’s paying attention to the main event, but it doesn’t matter who wins, since he’s focused on the title. He says he is on the top of everyone’s mind, so he’s the most dangerous man going after the most important prize. She asks him about Adma Page. He says that Page is an impeccable performer, and he puts over Page’s wins. But he still couldn't beat Swerve.
Renee is now with Chris Jericho and he says the tag team title slipped from his grip. Jericho says the titles were ripped out of his hands by Don Callis, and he says he will get revenge.
Matt Sydal shows up and says he has to get back in the ring with someone who has beat him, like he has. Jericho accepts the challenge for Rampage.
Orange Cassidy and Trent Beretta w/Chuck Taylor vs Penta and Komander
Cassidy and Penta start off doing their gimmicky stuff. Penta then starts kicking Cassidy’s legs and follows with arm drags. Cassidy gets an arm drag and then tries for the spinning DDT and Penta stops him. Penta then hits a kick to stop Cassidy from going to his pockets. Trent charges into Penta, and Komander leaps into the ring and into Trent.
Komander dives onto Cassidy on the floor but when he returns to the ring, Trent gets a half and half suplex. Cassidy covers for two as we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Komander grabs a head scissors on Trent, dumping him to the floor. Cassidy gets in the ring and Komander kicks Cassidy away and tags in Penta, who cleans house. Penta hits Cassidy for Made in Japan as Komander dives onto Trent. Komander is tagged in, and tires for an assisted Fear Factor, but Trent knocks Komander to the floor, Cassidy escapes and hits a spinning DDT, tagging in Trent.
Trent works over Komander and beats him to the mat. Trent goes for a power bomb,. And Komander escapes and gets a cradle for two. Komander rolls up Trent for two. Trent lay7s in a chop, but runs into a big boot from Penta. Penta hits a destroyer on Trent, and Komander runs the ropes into a dive onto Trent for two, broken up by Cassidy.
Komander hits a back heel kick on Cassidy and then goes to the top and misses a phoenix splash. Trent hits a running knee, but Penta hits Trent with a thrust kick. Cassidy shoves Trent out of the way and captures Penta for a beach break and an Orange Punch. Trent then puts Komander on his back and drops down, holding on for the pina nd the win.
Winner: Orange Cassidy and Trent Beretta
Before The Best Friends and Cassidy can give the people what they want, Roderick Strong and the Kingdom show up. They surround the ring and slowly get in. Both teams line up on opposite sides of the ring. Roderick says he came to the ring to tell Cassidy to his face. Roddy tells Cassidy to take off his glasses, and he does not. He says that Cassidy took a tag match to avoid him.
Cassidy accepts the match right here, right now, and after Roddy takes his shirt off, he says Not Right Now, and instead it will be at the Revolution PPV so that for the next six weeks, he wants Cassidy to know he’s just keeping his title warm for him.
In the back, Renee is with Adam Page, and he says having championship gold around his waist is his goal this year. She asks him about Swerve, and Page says Swerve thinks about him a lot, but Page doesn’t think about him at all because he’s not the world champion.
We then have Mark Briscoe and the Brisoce family come to the stage to honor Jay Briscoe, who passed away a year ago today. He gives a heartfelt speech about Jay’s passing, and he tells us his niece is now able to walk after her injuries from that accident.
We are then given a tribute video for Jay Briscoe.
Renee is with the Young Bucks in director’s chairs. They demand that they be called Nicholas and Matthew Jackson because they are Vice President. She asks them about the rumors and Matt says it’s not true, but he asks what she would do to protect her life’s work. He says he wou;dn’t do anything differently. She asks about why they challenged Sting. He then says their slogan was Change the World and they have lost their way. He says that there were cancerous old superstars, and Sting is not one of them. However, it’s about what Sting represents, the last of a dying breed and he’s not part of their vision for AEW.
Pure heel promo with a lot of insider stuff that the crowd didn’t know how to react to.
The Mogul Embassy (Brian Cage, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Leona) w/Prince Nana Ring of Honor World 6 Man Champions vs Bullet Club Gold (Jay White, Austin and Colton Gunn)
White and Leona start off and Leona forces them to the corner immediately. White lays in forearms and chops and then clothesline and Leona doesn’t go down. He drops White and carries him to his corner and puts him on the top, driving knees into his back. Kaun tags in and he keeps up the attack. White gets a dragon screw and tags Colton in, he and Austin stomp down Kaun in their corner.
Kaun escapes and tags in Cage, and Cage works over Austin. They work over Austin with quick tags in their corner as we go to picture in picture. When they return to full screen, Colton is abel to tag in and he runs wild. Colton gets cut off by Leona hitting a pounce. Cage power bombs Colton and then Kaun hits an air raid crash for two, broken up by Austin. Colton and Leona brawl on the floor.
Kaun is given a back body drop and White is tagged in and he lays in heavy chops. It’s then time for everyone to get a finishing move on the last person. As the ref is distracted, Nana gets in the ring with a belt, and Bowens comes to ringside and grabs the belt from him. Jay is able to get the blade runner on Kaun for the pin and the win.
Winners and new Ring of Honor 6 Man Tag Champions: Bullet Club Gold
The Acclaimed are on the stage and offer the scissor to Bullet Club Gold.
In the back, Adam Cole puts over Wardlow as the most dominant wrestler in AEW.
Toni Storm joins commentary, which always makes me happy.
Deonna Purrazzo vs Anna Jay
They start with arm bars into waistlocks. Purrazzo gets a quick rollup for two and Anna does the same for two. Purrazzo gets an arm bar and works over Anna’s arm and covers for two. They fight in the ropes and Anna gets a neck breaker on the second rope as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Purrazzo gets a series of clotheslines and a knee lift into an arm bar. Anna is able to turn it into a two count, and Purrazzo escapes into a cover of her own for two. Anna gets a backstabber and covers for two. Anna tries for a queenslayer, and Purrazzo escapes and goes for the arm bar, but Anna gets to the ropes. They trade forearms, and Purrazzo grabs the Venus De Milo and Anna has to tap out.
Winner: Deonna Purrazzo
Deonna shakes Anna’s hand and Renee comes to the ring for an interview. Renee says T9oni would like to meet with her. Dionna says they have known each other for a long time (and Toni says she has no idea who she is). Toni may have been friends with Dionna but she’s never met the Virtuoso.
Toni gets on Luthor’s shoulders, and says Dionna is an artificially tanned hag, and she would fight her now, but they have to go to commercial. Toni starts throwing shoes.
Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin) vs Private Party (Brother Zay" Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen)
Darius and Zay start off with side headlocks. Zay takes down Darius and they move to arm bars. They then trade hip tosses and kips ups. Quen tags in and does Dante. All four men meet in the middle of the ring and fist bump. Dante gets a side headlock and they move to arm bars and side headlocks and arm captures. Quen keeps trying to get Dante’s ankle. Private Party moves to leaps and high flying moves as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Darius has captured Zay’s arm and is holding him on the mat. Zay fights his way free, but Darius holds the arm and tags in Dante. Zay is able to break free and tags in Quen, who dives onto Darius on one side of the ring and Dante on the other. He does it again, and rolls Dante into the ring. Quen goes up top and hits a 450 splash for two.
Dante gets a leaping knee and tags in Darius and they double team Quen for two broken up by Zay. Quen gets a pop up drop kick on Darius, and Dante follows with a knee strike and then Zay gets a spinning kick on Dante. Private Party hits gin and juice. Quen rolls up Darius and grabs the rope for the pin and the win.
Winners: Private Party
We then get a video from Sting and Darby Allin responding to the Young Bucks and we get no answers.
Samoa Joe (AEW World Champion) vs Hook
Hook charges at Joe and attacks with blows immediately and Joe knocks Hook to the floor where they brawl. Joe shoves Hook at the barricade and Hook leaps onto it and fires back with a leaping punch. They return to the ring and Joe levels him with a back elbow. Joe then pummels Hook in the corner. Joe works Hook over in the corner and then taunts him.
Joe gets a snap mare and keeps up the attack, covering for two. Hook tries for a suplex, but Joe stops him. Hook gets in a few blows and they go to the floor again with Hook getting a leaping strike from the apron. Joe grabs Hook and gets a uri nage into the announce table, which falls apart. Hook flips the double bird to Joe who then power bombs him onto the apron.
The ref calls for the ringside doctor. Joe gets in the ring and the ref starts the count. Hook gets up at eight and rolls into the ring at nine. Joe hits a power slam and covers for two. Joe gets a death valley driver for two. Joe hits a muscle buster for one only.
Hook hits a running clothesline and a series of strikes and then gets a T Bone suplex on Joe. Hook tries to get redrum, but Joe blocks it and gets the coquina clutch. Hook passes out and the ref calls the match.
Winner and still AEW World Champion: Samoa Joe
Hook yells for sudden death, and Joe obliges him with a muscle buster. Hook struggles to his feet again and yells at Joe to come back. Adam Page comes from the back and gets in the ring as Joe leaves. We also see Swerve Strickland and Price Nana watching from the crowd. The crowd overwhelmingly cheers for Swerve, Page helps Hook to his feet, and we’re out of time.
