AEW BATTLE OF THE BELTS REPORT

Battle of the Belts VIII starts right after Collision. It is live at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, VA.  Our commentary team is Tony Schiavone, Kevin Kelly, and Nigel McGuinness. 

Going into Battle of the Belts, Brody King attacks Matt Menard at ringside and all seven men from the last match are brawling.  FTR is able to get the upper hand, and we see Jericho and Sammy Guevara vs Big Bill and Ricky Starks is already started in the back.

Ricky Starks and Big Bill (AEW Tag Team Champions) vs Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara in a street fight.

They brawl in the back next to one of the trailers used to ship the equipment. Starks has a trash can lid, and Bill has a street barricade. Bill and Starks are in control and Jericho is choke slammed into an area with plans. Sammy shows up with a golf cart and runs into Starks and Bill.  Guevara covers each in a row for two. 

Sammy tosses Bill into the trailer and Jariho joins him. They fight around the broadcast truck. Bill nails Sammy with a backpack that had a brick in it. Bill throws the brick and Sammy, and Sammy dodges and the brick goes through a car window. Jericho and Sammy suplex Bill on the top of a car. Rhett Titus is there and yells at Jericho for destroying his car, and he gets taken out.,

Jericho and Starks brawl back into the building through the back. They use all sorts of plunder on each other. Bill and Sammy have fought into the building and everyone is now in the concourse. Sammy chokes Bill with a table skirt. They go back to brawling and throwing plunder at each other as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, they are brawling into the arena. Starks and Bill have traded fight partners. Jericho pulse Bill to the top of a series of boxes and they fight on top of them. Takeshita nails Jericho with a kendo stick and Bill takes them both off the boxes through a table. Sammy and Ricky are fighting up the lighting truss.

Sammy goes WAY up on the truss and drops, missing Starks, who was pulled out of the way by Hobbs, and going through the stage. Starks covers Sammy for the pin and the win.

A fun brawl all around the ring with an insane bump at the end. The weapons were mostly goofy, and I liked this match a lot. I also want to point out that the camerawork for the big fall was fantastic,making it look scary and not giving anything away with the landing. 

We get a video package for Serena Deeb’s return. 

Julia Hart (TBS Champion) vs Anna Jay

They take their time to lock up. Jay forces Hart to the ropes and they roll to the corner without breaking. They go to the mat and Hart slams Jay’s head into the mat repeatedly. Jay gets a surprise rollup for one. And then gets a short arm clothesline. Jay gets a running neck snap and then slams Hart into the corner. Hart takes over and stomps down Jay in the corner. Jay is able to get snake eyes when Hart charges toi the corner.

They start fighting in the corner. Hart pulls Jay’s arm into the turnbuckle support and then tosses her into the barricade. Hart rolls her into the ring and covers for two as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Jay is working over Hart in the corner, but her arm is hurt. Jay covers for two after a reverse kick. Jay hits a back stabber for two. Hart is able to reverse a leg sweep into a slam for two. Hart gets on the bottom rope in the corner, kicks Jay down and charges, but Jay gets an arm bar takedown for two. 

Jay gets a Queenslayer, but Hart rolls over the top and reverses into a rear naked choke. Jay gets to her feet and tosses Hart to the mat. Jay hits a flatliner for two. Jay misses a rear kick and Hart locks on Hartless, causing Jay to tap out.

We then get a video of the Jeff Jarrett team arguing among themselves. Jewff says they need to start winning and that means Jay Lethal has to leave. Stanam Signh shows up with snacks to help Jay get back on his winning ways.

Orange Cassidy (AEW International Champion) vs Preston Vance

After they are in the ring, we get Roderick Strong, Matt Taven and Mike Bennett come to the ring with chairs to watch the match at the end of the ramp.

Vance hits a discus lariat to start and they go to the floor. Cassidy gets the Orange Punch when they return to the ring. Vance tosses Cassidy to the corner, and Cassidy pops out and they brawl in the corner, going to the top. Vance tosses Cassidy to the mat and Vance hits a shoulder tackle from off the top. Vance charges into Cassidy in the corner and then whips him across the ring. Cassidy tries for a casadora and Vance stops him and turns it into a suplex. He then pump kicks Cassidy out of the mat in front of the Kingdom and Roddy. 

Vance pulls Cassidy to the apron and then hits a stalling vertical suplex into the ring for two. They then go to picture in picture. When they return to full screen, Cassidy has fought out of the full nelson with hands in his pockets and then kicks Vance to the floor and follows with a dive. He rolls Vance into the ring and goes to the top, and Vance catches him.  Cassidy goes for the spinning DDT and Vance hits a spine buster but does not follow it up.

Vance stomps down Cassidy in the corner and then pulls him up. Cassidy starts with soft chops and then hits a series of kicks on Vance in the corner. Vance gets a rip cord slam, but Cassidy is able to get the slumdog millionaire and a spinning DDT for two. And Cassidy doesn’t follow up. 

Cassidy goes to the top and Vance rolls to the floor. Cassidy leaps on him and Vance catches Cassidy and hits a fallaway slam into the Kingdom on the floor. They go into the ring and Cassidy gets a casadora into a two count. Vance gets full nelson, and Cassidy backs them into the corner for the break. Cassidy hits an Orange Punch and then hits a beach break for the pin and the win.

Roddy and the Kingdom get in the ring and start toward Cassidy. Roddy is clapping and Jose the assistant gets in the ring and they take him out. Vance is tossed from the ring. The ref is told to leave and he does. Roddy says the clock is ticking and we are desperately out of time!
