ROH Episode 46: “Who Will Survive Four Corners?”
The second episode of the year and it seems as if we are all over the place. Although we are building to an amazing ROH Women’s Television Tournament, it seems as if ROH has no idea what to do with anyone else on the roster. Why you may ask? Read this review to find out.
Zak Knight vs Jon Cruz:
I guess Serpentico was not available this evening for ROH. Knight is a fantastic addition to the ROH roster and I hope we can see him more often. Cruz got some offense in, but Knight mostly dominated as he now goes 2-0 in ROH competition.
Winner: Zak Knight
Tony Nese vs Marcus Kross:
Before the match started Nese said that the crowd already knows who he is so he does not need an introduction. He trashes North Carolina, saying they are some of the biggest people he has ever seen. As much as he would want to help the fans in North Carolina out he does not like how he has been treated recently, so instead he is going to defeat Kross to show his appreciation to North Carolina. Nese came out without Sterling, which I found very interesting looks like Nese is turning over a new leaf in 2024. Nese gets the win over Kross in a highly competitive matchup, looks like serious Tony Nese is on a winning streak.
Winner: Tony Nese
ROH World Television Championship: Kyle Fletcher vs Angelico:
Another week where the only championship on the line is not in the main event spot. However, very excited Angelico got another championship opportunity. Angelico put up a fight in this match, and this is the reason why I was so disappointed he did not get into the match at Final Battle for the Television Title. I think Angelico has the chance to be a successful singles competitor if he can stir away from Serpentico. Fletcher finds a way to survive and holds on to his Television Title.
Winner: “And Still” Kyle Fletcher
Dalton Castle Promo:
Lexy Nair says Castle is not here, but she was told he might be in the basement. After making some noises Nair found him under a blanket in a production box. Castle says that he has not slept since Final Battle and he wants to smash John Morrison’s head. He asked the Board of Directors for a match and they agreed as long as Morrison said yes. Castle comes up with the brilliant idea that since he likes Nair she should be the one to ask for the match. She reluctantly agrees and goes to find Morrison.
The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent) vs The Dawsons (Dave and Zane):
Squash sigh…
Winners: The Righteous (Dutch and Vincent)
Shane Taylor Promotions Promo:
Moriarty says that since this match is a two out of three falls match this means they will get paid triple the amount. Taylor says that The Infantry is set up for punishment and we are going to see at the end of the night who the strongest soldiers are.
The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) vs Iron Savages (Bronson and Boulder):
Fun little tag match between two top teams in ROH. If only the ROH Tag Team Champions could show up on the TV Program, then these teams would have something to fight over. Iron Savages get the win as they celebrate loud and proud in North Carolina
Winners: Iron Savages (Bronson and Boulder)
Serpentico vs Cole Karter:
Serpentico pulling double duty and wrestling twice on one show! Too bad he did not get a win in any showing on this episode. Towards the end of the match Maria Kanellis and Griff Garrison came out to help Karter get the win. They distracted the ref as Garrison held the leg and Karter held the tights for the win.
Winner: Cole Karter
John Morrison and Taya Valkyrie Promo:
Nair says she knows this is not her job, but she asks Morrison for the match. Valkyrie and Morrison laugh in Nair’s face and say that Castle is not TV-ready and that is why they will not agree to the match. Morrison says that Valkryie is ready for TV and then they released that Valkryie’s initials are TV. They tell Nair to copyright it as they run off all excited.
Four Corner Survival: Lady Frost vs Queen Aminata vs Trish Adora vs Diamante:
First of two four-corner survival matches on this show. This was a fast match, which I was surprised by given the amount of talent within the match. I am going to assume that all four of these women will be in the ROH Women’s Television Tournament as each of them have a valid reason for going after the title. Queen Aminata pins Lady Frost to get the win and advances to 2-0 in ROH Competition.
Winner: Queen Aminata
Josh Woods vs LaBron Kozone:
Another squash… sigh.
Winner: Josh Woods
Infantry Promo:
Bravo says that everyone is always talking about the best teams in ROH and The Infantry’s name always comes up. Infantry says that in tag team action with just both teams they have not beaten The Infantry and tonight they will prove why they are the best team in ROH. Dean agrees and says that tonight they are ready to prove themselves and start a great 2024 for them.
Robyn Renegade vs Taya Valkyrie:
Although Valkyrie came out with Morrison Robyn came out without Charlette which was interesting, to say the least. Valkyrie dominated the match to remain undefeated in ROH as she and Morrison celebrate by making out.
Winner: Taya Valkyrie
M.E.M Without Athena?:
Starkz says she has great news which is that Athena is not here this week. Nair says that they can celebrate. When Nair starts to talk about clubbing and drinking Starkz says that she is not old enough but suggests mini-golfing instead. Starkz says they have more important things to do such as winning the ROH Women’s Television Title. Starkz says that all the women in the division do not understand that this title is hers. She is done playing games and she is ready to become a menace. Nair says she is excited and goes to call all the mini golfing places she knows!
Leyla Hirsch vs Rachael Ellering vs Brittany Jade and Emily Hale:
So many squashes it’s hard to keep up. However, after the match, Abadon appears! Looks like they are also going to be coming after the ROH World Television Title.
Winners: Leyla Hirsch vs Rachael Ellering
Four Corner Survival: Jack Cartwheel vs Slim J vs Gravity vs Blake Christian:
Unlike the women’s match, this four-corner survival match got a lot of time. Cartwheel shined throughout the entire match, and I expected him to win. However Christian was able to hold the other three off to get the big win in 2024. You can make the argument that this could be a number-one contender match for Fletcher’s title to get him a new opponent for next week.
Winner: Blake Christian
Athena Promo:
Athena says that since she has nagging injuries she deserves a vacation. She says that she will be back soon and we should all respect our minion overlord. When my good pal Nyla Rose surprised Athena and attacked her. She taunted the minion training and minion overlord stuff as she left the champ lying on her back. Guess we know Athena’s first challenger of 2024.
Lee Johnson vs Christopher Daniels:
Back to my weekly why does Daniels have a singles match every week as part of this review? As much as I was thrilled that Johnson got the win last week he could have wrestled anyone else to continue his momentum in 2024, but no. The worst part was that Johnson didn’t even win Daniels was able to get the job done. Sigh.
Winner: Christopher Daniels
Two Out of Three Falls: The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean) vs Shane Taylor and Lee Moriarty:
Taylor pinned Bravo quickly to get the first fall in this one with a huge knockout hit to the face. I was surprised that STP got the win overall here since Infantry has become one of the more fan-favorite tag teams in 2023. Looks like they might be coming after those ROH Tag Team Titles sooner or later.
Winners: Shane Taylor and Lee Moriarty
Overall:
Seems that we are back to the early days of ROH TV where we are doing things just for the sake of doing them. The ongoing problem with none of the champions showing up to the program is becoming more of a problem every week and that is why we continue to have more random matchups every week on TV. Hopefully, they fix this for next week and the champions decide to show up.
