AEW COLLISION REPORT

By Mike Johnson on 2024-01-06 20:01:00

I am filling in for the ailing Cory Strode.  Get better my friend!

Welcome to PWInsider.com's coverage of Collision on TNT from Charlotte, NC at the Bojangles Coliseum.  That's the old home of Crockett Promotions.  I always wanted to see a show there so I'm legitimately jealous of those getting to be in the arena tonight.

Tony Schiavone, Kevin Kelly, and Nigel McGuinness are our commentary team.

Darby Allin & Sting vs. The WorkHorsemen

Ric Flair is at ringside.

Crazy Sting's last Charlotte bout was announced with just 48 hours notice.  The Workhorsemen attacked Darby and Sting before the bell.  They worked over Darby for a bit.  Charlotte chanted for Sting but JD Drake knocked him off the apron to prevent a tag.  Drake went for a moonsault but Allin rolled out of the way.  Sting got the hot tag.  Sting hit all his signature stuff and pinned Drake with The Scorpion Death Drop.

Your winners, Sting and Darby Allin!

This was perfect as a spotlight on Sting.

They aired a video package pushing Dynamite's Darby & Sting vs. Konosuke Takeshita & Powerhouse Hobbs with Don Callis.

AEW Continental Crown Champion Eddie Kingston vs. Trent Beretta

They were really laying the strikes and chops in.  Beretta was battered hard early on but avoided a charge in the corner.  He drilled Kingston with a tornado DDT but Eddie kicked out.  Beretta worked over Kingston for a bit before getting caught in the corner with the Kenta Kobashi-style rapid fire chops.  Beretta got pissed and slapped Eddie in the face, so Eddie chopped him HARD in the mouth, legitimately bloodying Beretta's nose.  Kingston avoided a dive and nailed some suplexes on the floor.  Beretta was hit with a Boot Scrape.  They showed Beretta's mother at ringside, worried.  Beretta made a comeback but was knocked off the ropes.  Beretta fired back with knees and punches. Kingston was sent to the floor and hit with a dive.  They battled back and forth before Kingston got the pinfall with a spinning backfist and a Northern Lights Bomb for the pin.

Your winner and still Champion, Eddie Kingston!

They really took the fight to each other and this was a good, entertaining bout.

Earlier today, Tony Schiavone interviewed Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander.  Statlander has a pet Bearded Dragon on her shoulder.  They sort of dismissed Stokely Hathaway's recent interest and said they were going to keep the momentum of their hard work going this year.

Hook challenged Samoa Joe for the AEW title in a pre-taped interview, which is a hell of an interesting match!

ROH Tag Team Champions The Undisputed Kingdom vs. Komander & Bryan Keith

This is a non-title Proving Ground bout so if the challengers win, they earn a title shot.

Early on, the champs worked on Komander, double-teaming him.  Komander fought back and nailed a rana on Matt Taven.  Bryan Keith tagged in and the Bounty Hunter worked over Taven with some hard strikes.  Mike Bennett nailed a blind tag and attacked Keith from behind.  The champs worked him over for some time.  Keith battled back and hit an overhead belly to belly.  Komander tagged in and hit some big lucha spots.  They battled back and forth until Keith was cut off and nailed with Rockstar Supernova for the pin.

Your winners, The Undisputed Kingdom!

Solid action.

Backstage, The Acclaimed confronted Bullet Club Gold as they were being interviewed by Renee.  The idea was they needed to work together to take out Undisputed Kingdom and Anthony Bowens asked them to think about it.

Edge came out for a promo.  He was dressed to wrestle and said that as a former TNT Champion, he was owed a rematch against Christian Cage but was willing to work his way to that title opportunity.  Uh, why?  He said Christian believed he was should be handed everything but Adam Copeland has always worked harder than Christian.  He offered to face anyone right now.

Griff Garrison came out with Cole Karter and Maria Kanellis.  They have been a trio in ROH of late.  Garrison cut a promo saying he takes advantage of opportunity and will take the challenge.  Adam said he's a lot like Copeland back in the day but he was in over his head.  Garrison slapped him.  Nice fire.

Adam Copeland vs. Griff Garrison

Copeland worked over Garrison early.  Cole and Maria distracted him, allowing Griff to nail a kick and work over Copeland,  He nailed a wheelbarrow into a slam for a two count.  Edge made a comeback and went for a spear but ate a roaring elbow.  Griff ascended to the top but was cut off and nailed with a superplex.  He nailed the Implant DDT and locked on a crossface.  Griff tapped.

Your winner, Adam Copeland!

Cole dropkicked Copeland and went to the ropes for a 450 splash.  Copeland avoided it and speared Griff and Cole.

This was OK.

Backstage, Sting, Darby Allin and Ric Flair cut a quick promo about the Tornado Tag Match on Wednesday.

Kiera Hogan vs. Skye Blue

They battled back and forth.  Blue nailed a running booy to the face.  Hogan nailed a superkick.  Blue went to the top and came off the top but was nailed with another superkick.  Hogan nailed a Rude Awakening and scored a two count.  They battled back and forth until Blue caught her with a Dragon Sleeper and forced the submission.

They aired a video touting the return of Serena Deeb.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Andrew Everett

Everett was working his ass off and they had a nice chemistry, as short as this was.  Claudio challenged Hangman Page to fight him on Dynamite.  He was in control early on and nailed the Giant Swing.  Everett nailed a Pele Kick and worked over Claudio.  He went to the top but missed the shooting star press off the top.  Claudio nailed a Neutralizer and a lariat for the pin.

Your winner, Claudio Castagnoli!

Lexy Nail interviewed AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks & Big Bill.  They challenged Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara to a Street Fight at Battle of the Belt next Saturday.

FTR vs. House Of Black's Malakai Black & Buddy Matthews

The NC crowd was solidly pro-FTR.  If they weren't, I guess that'd be a real shock.  Malakai played mind games early on, even getting down to the floor near Dax Harwood's daughter.  He nailed a moonsault to the floor on Cash Wheeler.  They worked over Cash for some time.  Cash fought back and was almost there to tag out when Dax for blasted off the apron by Buddy Matthews.  After he finally made the tag, Dax nailed a brain buster for a two count.  He battled Black and rolled him up.  Black kicked out and sent Dax into the ropes, where Black smashed him.  Black nailed an elbow and scored a near fall.  FTR regained control and nailed the Powerplex (Power and Glory's old finisher) but when Dax went for the pinfall on Black, Matthews came off the ropes and nailed a Meteora on Wheeler, crashing atop of the pinfall attempt.  That looked great.  Wheeler set up for a dive but HOB caught him with stereo knees.  They tossed Wheeler into the announcers.  Black grabbed a chair but Dax nailed him to prevent him from using it.  FTR isolated Buddy and nauled the Shatter Machine.  They worked over Malakai and nailed a spike piledriver outside on the apron, which Charlotte lost their minds over.  Brody King came out but Daniel Garcia hit the scene and nailed him with a chair over and over.  The battle went back and forth until Harwood reversed a pinfall attempt and pinned Matthews.

Your winners, FTR!

Garcia celebrated with FTR.  Buddy Matthews attacked them and HOB beat them down.  Julia Black stood there ringside ringing a bell and smiling at it all.

Really good main event the live crowd enjoyed.
