I am filling in for Cory Strode, who is under the weather. Feel better my friend!
This week''s episode was taped at The Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
Our announcers are Ian Riccaboni, Tony Schiavone and Excalibur.
Mark Briscoe & The Hardy Boyz vs. Kip Sabian & The Butcher & The Blade
Kip Sabian and Mark Briscoe started out and Sabian was quickly on the defense. The Hardys worked him over until he scratched Jeff's eyes and made the tag to The Blade. Matt battled back and forth with Butcher, who nailed him with a big clothesline. Matt finally nailed the tag to Briscoe, who used Redneck Kung Fu to control the ring. Briscoe went for a dive but was caught and slammed on the apron by The Butcher. Kip Sabian whipped out a Sabu Arabian Press. Briscoe was worked over for a long time. He exchanged blows with The Blade and nailed a neckbreaker. Jeff Hardy nailed the hot tag. Everyone battled until Sabin was trapped with the babyfaces and triple-teamed and pinned after a Froggy Boy elbow from Mark.
Your winners, The Hardys & Mark Briscoe!
Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara were interviewed by Rnee Paquette. Guevara will face Ricky Starks on Dynamite. Jericho warned Big Bill not to interfere.
Kris Statlander & Willow Nightingale vs. Notorious Mimi and Kenedi Hardcastle
Stokley Hathaway was at ringside doing the ring introductions for Statlander in the most wonderful lecherous way. This was a short bout. Mimi, seen in the great AppleTV+ docuseries Monster Factory was slammed by the babyaces early. Nightingale was worked over but reversed a suplex, hitting the move on her opponents at once. The babyfaces hit a series of moves and Nightingale hit a spinebuster on Mimi for the pin.
Your winners, Willow Nightingale & Kris Statlander!
The Hardys were interviewed backstage and said they needed to be on Dynamite to get the ratings up. Wow, they said that?! Private Party showed up and Matt was sort of being a prick, pretending to be happy they went on their own and taking the credit for their swagger. Looks like we're heading for a Hardys turn.
Hikaru Shida vs. Anna Jay
This was the best thing on the show thus far. Jay looked good early working over Shida. Shida came back with a Falcon Arrow. Jay shocked her with a cradle and the near fall was so close, some in the crowd thought it was the finish. Shida avoided Jay's finisher the Queen Slayer and hita Meteora and then a spin kick for the pin.
Your winner, Hikaru Shida!
Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal were arguing backstage as Sonjay Dutt failed to get them to get along. Jarrett insulted Lethal, who then said Jarrett couldn't win any matches without him. Jarrett responded he was 12 time champion. The matches will be good, but this seemed really rushed.
ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta vs. Komander (w/Alex Abrahantes)
They started with a lot on the mat. Yuta grabbed an armbar and Komander needed a rope break. Komander locked on a Boston Crab variation and Yuta needed a rope break. Komander nailed a hurancanrana, sending Yuta to the floor. He went for a dive but was drilled as he came through the ropes. Yuta worked over Komander on the mat, forcing Komander to use the next break. He's down to his last one. The story was Yuta kept focusing on the shoulder. Komander fought back and turned the tide with a springboard dropkick. Komander nailed a spinning DDT for a two count.
Yuta avoided a splash and nailed an Olympic Slam. He cinched on a hammerlock and Komander used his third and final rope break. They battled back and forth. Yuta scored a near fall with a German suplex. Komander went for a sunset flip but Yuya grabbed his arm and locked on a hammerlock. Komander was out of rope breaks and finally tapped.
Your winner and still ROH Pure Champion, Wheeler Yuta!
Technically, this was real good and a nice showcase for the Pure Rules style.
