Zack Sabre Jr. made a rare independent appearance last night (Dec 29) for Premier Promotions in front of a sold out crowd of approx 250 at the Charmandean Centre in Worthing, England. Sabre started wrestling for Premier in 2008 and this was his first appearance for them in 8 years. A rival promotion had run elsewhere in Worthing the night before, so Premier promoter John Freemantle, who has operated since 1987, fired back by booking Sabre in his show's main event against rising British star Jordon Breaks, who is based a few miles along the south coast in Hove. The match was contested under the traditional British rounds system, which Premier still uses in all of its show. Sabre won by 2 falls to 1 in the 7th round of a tremendous technical contest. Breaks held his own with Sabre for much of the way and showed that he is becoming a renowned exponent of the traditional British style of wrestling that Sabre is famed for.
At the end of the contest, Sabre thanked the fans, said how much he enjoyed the match and praised John Freemantle as one of the unsung heroes of British wrestling. He then suggested making his appearance at Premier's post-Christmas show a tradition, indicating that he'd like to return next year (presumably when he's back home visiting his family at Christmas time). Mr Freemantle then mentioned how Zack had vacated the Premier Light-Heavyweight title when he re-located to Japan, said "Have it back!" and presented him with the title belt (which is currently vacant anyway).
During the show, Mr Freemantle also got some notable figures who were in attendance into the ring to introduce to the crowd, namely Doug Williams and 'Twisted Genius' Dean Ayass, followed later by Michael Oku and David Francisco, who he said had agreed to appear on a Premier show in 2024.
Full show results were as follows:
Barry Cooper b Isaac Freyda 1-0
Samson & Cameron b PJ Reeves & Casey Bitout 2-1
James Kenna & David Lovejoy b Anthony Storm & Bad Boy Johnny 2-1
Zack Sabre Jr b Jordon Breaks 2-1
Samson won a 13 man Rumble to win the Worthing Rumblemania Trophy
Premier returns to Worthing on Feb 11.
